Hello everyone, and Happy Autumn and soon Thanksgiving! Seems like the year had just zoomed by, almost like we were just doing this not long ago...

Does anyone have any holiday plans? Any favorite traditions?

My kiddos are going to be with their mothers this Thanksgiving, but I'll still make a huge meal for them to come back to; ~22lb turkey, dressing, crescent rolls, green bean casserole, garlic mashed potatoes, candied yams, deviled eggs, and then some crackers and summer sausage and cheeses for appetizers.

We'll have leftovers forever, but I hear that some families don't like having holiday leftovers? I like seeing all of the creative things we can find to do with Turkey in the days after we've made a huge one; everything from turkey nachos to turkey melts, and then maybe turkey soup with carrots and potatoes...

Our Thanksgiving is in October...can I join you at yours? grin

I love leftover turkey. I make Chinese food with it.

Yup, turkey in the rice...turkey in the veggie stir fry and turkey in the 'chicken' balls. Now I am really craving.

Ginger and her gang are going to Pompano Beach, Florida the week of Thanksgiving. Shelley's boys will hunt all day just coming inside long enough to eat lunch so Johnny and I will probably just stay home.

Neither of us eat turkey so I'm not sure what I'll cook. We may ride out to my mothers. Or we might ride down to see Shelley or she and Aubry might ride up here. Who knows at this point. We used to all go out of town together for Thanksgiving (my mother and everyone) but as the kids got married and started having children of their own and moving all over the place we got away from that. Then a few years Johnny and I and Ginger and Chris and Chris's parents went somewhere but we've stopped that. With all the little ones in school 2 days off just takes a lot of out of you if you travel for one of those days.

I am struggling with what to do. There will be a Dudley. Thanksgiving on the Saturday after Thanksgiving ...with Italian food. It will be just us on Thanksgiving Day so I guess I might make a turkey Breast and all the trimmings. I like leftovers too.

Many years ago my dad made turkey soup with the left over turkey and it was delicious. I think he made up the recipe as he went.

Turkey carcus soup is THE best. There is all sorts of hidden meat and so you get the flavor of the bones and the meat both. Just be careful to not have any dressing/ stuffing in the soup. I made up my recipe and have kept it. It may be down in our recipes here. Sounds like I will have to buy a small turkey instead of just a breast so I can make soup.

I think the kids are figuring out that this is how I usually end up cooking, lol... What do we have on hand, and what can we do with it to fill 4 bellies, and maybe have leftovers.

For Christmas I'll probably do a ham and scalloped potatoes; we should be plenty tired of Turkey by then, lol.

Hi all,

Our turkey day plans are (weather dependent) of course... driving up to Colo . on Tues, Joe has an eye doc appt Mon... he has a growth on his eyes and we have to see specialist on how to treat, surgery or drops... he is hoping for drops!

I love to make soup with the carcus too , let it simmer all day in the crock pot with some broth...…. then add this and that.. no receipe , just what strkes me at the time...LOL! always comes out good.. and best part is I have lunches for a long while cause hubby doesn't like soup... silly man.

After we get back I have a physical with the doc... got to get renewed scrips... hubby has done really well since doc here told him to lose weight or become diabetic... runs in his family.... lost more than 50 lbs... now if I can manage to get more active with this stupid foot.. doc said I may have pain forever but was hoping it wouldn't be to bad.. was wrong but am going to force myself to start taking walks as far as I can … will just keep taking the motrin for a pain...

Really looking fwd to getting to see the kids and grands … we'll be going back in May for Timothy's graduation... wasn't he just in kindergarten? 18 already, graduating and working.... how does that happen?

Nana

Well, the holiday is in full swing here. I just took out a package of paper doilies for GG to make snow flakes with this evening. I find they make a good base, they are easy to fold and cheap. The kids always loved using them instead of regular paper. The cost of $1 for 45 doilies is awesome.

I need to get some doilies Sunny. Aubry would love making snow flakes. I ordered some cheap burlap looking stockings off Amazon and when all the grans are here we're each going to decorate our own stocking. They'll all be left here and that's what I'll hang from now on.

Sounds like fun Sheri.

I love cedar wreaths Junie, I usually make one every year but this year we made one with burlap....since burlap is the 'in' thing this year, and cheap as well lol

Lol about GG. It does sound as if you do need to be saved. I think next year you need to tell her for every new decoration she puts out, she needs to get rid of one. Or you could add a new store room onto the house. Both would work lol

Sunny GG sounds like Aubry who doesn't believe less is more. She's all about the sparkle and bling. Exact opposite of her mother and it drives her mother nuts.

I've threatened Darbi that I'm picking out clothes for her for Christmas and am going to have my feelings hurt when she doesn't wear them if she doesn't soon give me a gift idea. Darbi has never wanted anything. I don't think she'll ever be the one that buys her own stuff because it's like she doesn't realize she needs new shoes or new jeans. I think I posted that she wore her ball cleats with holes in them and another mom told Shelley she'd pick her up a pair. Shelley was embarrassed because she didn't have a clue and the lady had noticed that Darbi was shaking her foot to get the dirt out after each inning.

Her sister is the total opposite. Wants everything she sees and whines if she doesn't get it. No fun to shop with either of them.

Junie, how's your live wreath holding up. This is the first year in a long time I didn't get a live one. I miss it.

Didn't get a live wreath. It's been too wet to look at wreaths and it's raining now and is going to rain tomorrow. I'm ready otherwise though. All presents, except for Johnny's bought, and wrapped. No idea what to get Johnny.

I have my gifts bought, and my holiday food. Gifts sent to my DD in Virginia, and a large portion of my gifts that will stay here wrapped.

Now to fit in some cleaning, cooking and baking.

It's hard to buy for people now Sheri...if they need it, they have it...if they don't have it, it's because no one can afford it lol

Sounds good Junie.

I finished my baking last night. I only made half of what I usually make though.
