I know, Sheri. Fire is my biggest fear. I'm glad nothing got burned.

I do not either, but I do know there is a monthly fee involved. I am very glad also that we have it (Thanks to my DD & her DH)

That being said...Good night to you all.

Good morning. I am interested in the hot spot when power goes out. I think I'll research those possibilities.

You can't pick your neighbours or your family...sometimes having them as both together is just as bad as it gets as well. Is there no way to get the fire marshal to give them a visit?

I am spending the day fixing drywall cracks and nail pops in the entrance. It looks like a case of chicken pox in there at the moment lol ..I am painting it this week...no matter what. It was an addition that was put on to our house and is one cement pillars...it shifts and cracks so bad some years.

Sunny how old is your house? Our house is old and gets cracks when it's too hot and cracks when it's too cold. I feel like I'm living with Goldilocks because everything has to be just right to keep this house together.

I have called Environmental Services on my neighbors to the point where I'm on a first name basis with the people in that office. Other people have called too because they burn plastic and whatever else that is illegal to burn. One night I called 911 because I was concerned the wind was going to carry the blaze to my house. I've been told officials have made visits, sent letters, they've supposedly been fined - nothing stops them. I can't tell how much of their yard was burned yesterday but I hope it was significant enough to make them think twice. One of the problems is that the office that polices my area is 2 hours so they can't pop in immediately after a call is made.

A hotspot device affords one with internet. My SIL's job uses the internet a lot. One day it was stay home from church and an outting with us or use the hotspot in the car..he chose the latter. I asked if we were robbing the internet from the neighbors, I was told no. But as I said there is a monthly fee. It is not as strong as having the internet would be but it is way better than not having the internet.

Sorry abt the neighbors..I will hope they move, Sheri.

Sunny, sorry for your repairs, but then I am glad you can do them !

Relaxing and waiting for my Missouri Grandchildren to come and spend their first overnight with us. This should be an experience.

As a side note: Keebler Vanilla wafers ARE NOT the same as Nabisco 'Nilla wafers. Sad no-one told me this before I went grocery shopping !

Sheri, it is the same here. My house is over 22 years old...and using drywall where we live is a disaster. So far we have put cove molding in all the rooms in the seams of the walls and corners in all the rooms except the kitchen and living room. Now it is either dealing with the screws that indent in or pop out. I also now have a crack in the ceiling that runs all the way across a 12 ft span in the hall to the living room. Sometimes the noises we hear in the coldest days of Winter is terrifying. I do repairs each year but I have run out of the matching paint color...and it is due to be painted anyway. I bought pre-mixed paint....it is the color of chocolate milk.

Yay for a job well done Junie, but just to let you know...you may have started up a new 'job' for yourself lol

well as my MIL used to say "another job done". I was so relieved that this house was done in neutral colors and that I did not need to repaint anything. I completely understand your position.

I hope Teddy is better today, Tina.

Today is a clean and mop day...then I have to go get GB at supper time. The day care is closed again tomorrow...what a crock that place is. They close yet you still have to pay for the day.

Check out Union County, NC on google and you'll see the Florence damage in my area. Awful and amazing at the same time. We'll be picking up limbs and such out of the yard today. It's still overcast but hoping it doesn't rain.

We travel this road every day

"Late Sunday night, rescuers were searching for a 1-year-old child who had been swept away, WSOC reported, after a car was trapped by floodwaters from Richardson Creek on Pleasant Hill Church Road in Union County. Rescuers said the child's mother was also swept from the car, a WCCB reporter tweeted. She was rescued and taken to the hospital"

The child is still missing.

Sunny, I suppose there is no other option for a day care for GB ??

The baby's body was found. Mother was going to visit friends and drove around barricades. Sad.

Sunny I think all daycares require payment even when not open to hold the spot. I would think though, that it needs to be good reasons for closing. How awful for parents who don't have someone like you and have to take time off work. Some people are paid by the hour and if they miss work they miss being paid.

yes, so sad Sheri.

I understand the keeping a spot open for a child--and paying say when YOU chose not to send your child is understandable in those circumstances...but if a day care is supposed to be open but is not that is their choice and one should not have to pay--and yes I understand that is not the way of it but IMO that is the way it should be.

Sweet Dreams everyone.

The day care closes for the craziest reasons at times...and there are no other options. The other day care has a waiting list of two years...by the time he gets in, he will be in school.

So sad about the baby...this might sound mean but there are so many children affected by their parents decisions. I think that if you are told to evacuate and you don't...then there should be charges applied if your child is hurt in any way.

GB is here...and we are getting the remnants of Hurricane Florence with lots of rain. It will be an inside day with baking to be done....with lots of 'licking the spoon' lol

IMO licking the spoon is mandatory, esp. If you are a "short person" lol

I got my daffodils bulbs yesterday. BUT I was unable to get my surprise lillies. I cut a few in half and so stopped. I figure 1 of us should enjoy them. As I was going no one would get to, so I stopped.

Hoping I can buy some next spring.

DH has errands for us on the agenda today.

lillies multiply quickly from small cuttings Carol...you might be surprised at how you can stretch the mounds that you did take. I have lillies everywhere...all from two that I bought originally.

I agree about the daycare too. Didn't mean to sound like I didn't. Sounds sort of like whoever runs it knows that everyone is over a barrel.

Carol what kind of surprise lillies? Is the other name naked ladies? You may need to see about ordering bulbs to put out now or pretty soon. Not sure if you guys do that where your winters are severe.

I think you may be right. I was told (once upon a time) that Around mid IL one could dig and plant them any time they p!eased. I guess I had better check into this area. Thanks for the nudge, Sheri.

That is just the thing...I began to dig them up and first thing I cut one right in half--so I stopped, so I have NO lilies. I DO however have about a dozen or more daffodils that multiplied from the few I brought from the farm to town.

and Sheri, yes they are the same flower.m a variety of the amaryllis

Half is o.k. The next time you go back to the house...take a mound home with you then cut it in a few clumps and plant. They'll establish themselves fine. Just put them in a bag or bucket so they stay moist on the trip kissie

It is still raining so it is another inside day. I cut an expansion of two ft around my garden..and am just waiting to remove and shake out the sods.

Oh, the delivery truck and the roofer landed yesterday and put the shingles up on both roofs. They are getting done this weekend. I am sad to see the savings account take a hit but I am excited not to have to worry about leaks.

Wow they can do that in the rain ? I guess as long as it does not matter, it is ok, right. I do agree, to have no leaks is a good thing. Girls are just here.

Ooops, I meant the roofer used a boom truck to put the packaged shingles on the roof....meaning that the roof will get done within the week.

It's my daughter's birthday today...we will go up later when she gets off work. Their is a restaurant near her that she likes. Her best friend also had a baby yesterday...almost in her car. What an ordeal, they ran her with false labor so much that this time she thought it was the same. She had the baby on a stretcher in the emergency room lol
