I did not dig up my elephant ear bulbs this past winter. I have a black diamond that i planted last year and it did really well. I am in zone 6b. Our winter was not too bad, but we did get a couple of light snows. We covered them really well, but wondering if i can dig down a little to see if they survived or will that hurt them? I was moving the mulch away from them after the last frost and noticed that there was part of a dead stalk and it had cream cheese looking stuff in it. Not a good sign, i bet?

so can i dig down to see if ok? I don't want to wait till june to see if they come up.

I could not find anything that mentioned having left elephant ears out to over winter. Hopefully someone else will come by & help you.

hi sorry for the disappearance, having some issues here. No they did not. They had cottage cheese looking stuff in them. I dug them up and planted new. One is coming up, but have not seen the other one peek out yet.
