GG has told DH that we need to have a separate berry garden this year. They have decided that it will be my gift for Mother's Day. I get to do all the work but they get to pay for the plants lol

I'm kind of excited over it.

WOW !!! That sounds like a wonderful Mother's Day Gift.
Do you know what kinds of berries they have in mind, or will that be part of the surprise ?

Definitely blueberries and raspberries to start. The bears have gotten too bad to go pick them in the wild these past few years. I planted new strawberries last year.

Do you have problems with Japanese Beetles ? I would love to grow Blackberries. Once again. But in the last few years we had them at the "Farm" we completely lost them. Here my back yard is too low, but with moving, I want to try again.I

Fresh berries sound lovely. I am very happy for you.

I used to have different berries and berry shrubs but over the years they died out from disease of animals. It's a good time to start again since GG has taken such an interest in gardening.

We have blackberries. I had strawberries for several years but couldn't keep the weeds out of them so last year I mowed them over. I love raspberries but have never grown them. The deer destroyed the blueberry bushes but I'm putting more out in the fence this year.

Colt likes to plant things and if he lived closer might he might end up being a gardener. Lucky you that GG likes it. Makes it more fun.

We just pulled our raspberries that we planted; they completely took over the front of the house. We also pulled the neighbors blackberries at the end of summer as it completely overtook our side yard, lol. Great berries, major upkeep.

Now I guess we'll just walk down the street and pick berries where we did when I was a kid :P.

We are planning on grapes and strawberries this year though! Last year I bought what was supposed to be a "Pineapple Strawberry", the picture looked like a white berry with red seeds; but what I ended up with just looked like your average strawberry...

I am jealous of any of you that are going to have your own berries to eat. They are THE best, to be sure.

That was one of the problems with my strawberries. I froze a bunch and made freezer jam out of a bunch but we just don't eat enough to keep up with the weeds and the grass. If Ginger lived closer she'd eat them all every day but I've still got bags of them in the freezer.

I used to make pies with my blackberries a LOT. Then I also made Jam. AND I would thaw a cup or so at a time and put them in my yogurt. I am getting hungry now.......:)

Well, I don't get to eat them myself at that price. GG gets to take them to school as her morning snack though.
The price of fruit here in Winter is crazy.

Wouldn't it be nice if we all lived closer and could really have a meet up once in a while.

Yes, it would be WONDERFUL !!!

my sister belongs to a group that does that once a year, & who can come, does. The lady hosting the house has a big 4 or 5 bedroom house and she puts up people if they do not want to rent a room close by. I have for years thought how nice that would be for us to meet, but we are all scattered so far apart that it does not seem likely that we do that.

We'll wait on my mother...she is a gambling addict. In fact...half her siblings are as well.

More gardening catalogs are coming in. I can't wait until May to plant potatoes.

Totally off topic but a friend from church is addicted to scratch off cards. His wife has had to put him on a daily allowance to try to curb this addiction. She can't even give him lunch money for an entire week or he'll spend it all in one day.

It's so warm here that I'm itching to crank up the garden but I know it's going to get cold again. I really hope it does. If I find green peas to plant they'll be going in as soon as I find them or it will be too hot for them to produce.

Johnny has yet to build another raised bed or bring in the straw bales for the squash. I need to make him a list.

Yes make a list with time frames noted by each chore.

I hope your bed is made in time for use this season....

I made the list and put it on the kitchen counter where he lays his keys. I've mentioned and mentioned and mentioned he needs to buy supplies and he's said over and over and over he will. We shall see.

The problem with this project is I can't haul the long pieces of wood in my car. I mentioned it again this morning so I'm hoping.

Yes about hauling stuff in the car. When I had the Blazer, I picked up a LOT of items I needed myself. But now, with this Cruze, I can pick up little for myself...
and Rod is just like other men..he gets to it when he gets to it....and not before.

Sheri, I just had a thought--can you have the supplies delivered ?? and yes there would be a fee, but I bet it would just happen once...
