Hi all.

We are supposed to get some milder weather for a few days. It will be a nice treat.

Good Morning.
Yes milder weather here also.
Forecast in the lower 70's today--then colder--around 38 tomorrow. if this kind of fluctuation keeps up we will soon all be sick.

Housecleaning is on the agenda for today.

Yes, but I slept until 8:15 and my older daughter was coming up at 9. That didn't give me enough wake-up and coffee time. But we all survived.

A good night's sleep does wonders doesn't it?

We had freezing rain through the night. If the road conditions improve, I might head up to get my grandson. He has been asking to sleep over. Mind you, after a few hours....he asks to go home lol

GG stuck a few clementine seeds into my schleffera pot...and one has sprouted. I wonder if I could transplant it if I took a large amount of soil with it. Any advice?

Good morning.
Yes, you can transplant citrus easily, Sunny. I have an orange tree that needed transplanting several times before finding it's happy place in my yard. Good luck.
Good morning. Up early. It's going to be a lovely day to get something done. I hope it's a good Friday for all.

Good morning. Yep...by all means transplant the clementine sprout. Disturb it as little as possible. It makes me smile that GG gets to see what happens when a seed is planted. Good for you both.

Happy Friday to you all.

GG is a gardener for sure. Love it.

It was in the 80's here today. Looking back at pictures we had ice on this date in 2015. I don't like the heat but I'd rather not have ice.

Colt got an award at school today for good behavior. Will wonders never cease.

I prefer heat to ice as well, Sheri.

Kids can sure surprise us can't they ? I will say this though. A child may behave one way at home, and another away from home. How he behaves away from home is the one that matters. Apparently Colt knows how to behave. That can make us all smile.

I tried to go to sleep. That did not work, so I got up and did more housework. On my tablet now........

I'll transplant it this week...I need a good pot.

Yay for Colt.

Grandboy is here...he asked for his coat last night but decided to stay. He sure is a lot quieter and easier to look after than GG. The are both going to their mom's later.

Sunny, how old is grandboy now? Darbi was and still is a very easy child but my 2 grandsons are much easier than Aubry who is 10.

From 80 yesterday to 50 today and raining. I'll be praying for this weather in August though so I'm trying not to complain - too much anyway :)

Why do some people want to ruin things for others? A lady at church has a son who is 4, is just now learning his alphabet, can't write his own name and she's upset that he can't participate in the Wednesday night children's class because the age starts at 5. And it starts at 5 simply because it's a Bible study so the children need to be able to read at least a little and at least be able to copy a memory verse off the board. This woman has come to me once and now Johnny once demanding her child be allowed to come and now that she's been told the reasons why he can't she's started bad mouthing me and the entire program and is saying we don't do anything except play during that time. That it's just a long recess and not about God. So far she's caused people to make only positive remarks about the program because parents have seen what their children have been bringing home and have heard what they are learning but I have a feeling it's going to get worse before it gets better. At this point I'm trying to ignore here because I don't want to tell her what I think about her.

sounds to me as if she is looking for a babysitter...you know for free ???

and you know what they say...the squeaky wheel gets the grease.......and apparently she has learned that.
NEXT TIME point out how her child is learning how NOT to follow the rules.

My thoughts exactly.

It is snowing out at the moment. GG is at her mom's and DH got called to work. I might just clean and mop today...it looks dreary out there.

Good morning.
I think I would invite the son and the mother to one class at least. To show her what is done and what he needs to do.If he can't cut it, She's got her answer. She will see that he isn't ready.
Today I'm going to do the things I didn't do yesterday. That;s what most of my days feel like they go. haha
I hope you all have a wonderful Sunday.

We went to church, ate too much for lunch, took a nap. Ginger and her crew are in the pool in Tampa.

Good suggestion Tina but at this point I"m done. The dad called Johnny and told him they want to meet and tell us ways we need to change the program. Instead of a Bible study they want it to be singing and worship. Instead of skits and Bible games they want it to be prayer and they want it open for all children in the church no age limit. They want a curriculum rather than the Bible to be the guide. Johnny told them he wasn"t changing things so the mom wouldn"t make eye contact with me this morning and the dad refused to speak to Johnny. Their little boy is in my Sunday School class and a while back his father told me that they felt like he"s too smart for my class. I told dad at that time to move him up to the next age group, which starts at 7 years but he said “well there might be a problem because of his skills”. I deal with this little boy as best as I can in class because he talks over me, is loud, rude, spit on a girl last Sunday, and has tried to hit me before. He told me this morning his dad told him he"s a genius. I"m not making an effort to speak to them again.

MY 2 oldest Grandsons ARE very intelligent. VERY. The oldest was talking in 4 or 5 word sentences at around 12 to 18 months. CLEAR words.
Neither of them act like that.

The boy you are talking about, may be bright...but genius he is not....and he also has NO clue how he should behave. and good behavior can be/should be taught.

While I am glad they bring him to church, it does not sound as if he is benefiting from it.

I slept for like 5 or 6 hours this afternoon. I think this was to make up for the night before last when I slept like 3 hours.

I am hoping to get back to sleep so this lack of sleep does not continue.

Sweet Dreams everyone.

Junie were you able to sleep last night after taking that 5 hours nap?

Rainy and 70 here today. Thursday is supposed to be 79°. I'm wondering if we're going to have another cold snap. When it's this warm this early July and August are usually unbearable.

Tina how are you drought wise?

We are very drought-y. Last years rains filled our reservoirs and such but this year very little was added. They are talking reinstating the water conservation rules of yore.

Sheri--yes I was able to sleep just fine. I went to bed around 11:30 & woke up around 7:30. I think my lack of sleep has been taken care of.

I was supposed to go to a wake this evening. BUT I am thinking of not going and sending my friend a card. I really do not want to be soaked going into the Funeral home & then again coming back out. WE shall see what my cousin says.

Hi all.

Yesterday was our first provincial "Family Day" holiday. I got to spend mine with my uncles because their worker did not show up to work. The new holiday wasn't registered federally so they refused to pay her for working a holiday.

It was a long day, three middle aged men who have schizophrenia are a handful. They really need a care home.

Today is a back to normal day.

Thanks Tina...they expect 10 times the work from me as they do from their worker. lol

We just got a freezing rain warning for through the night. What crazy weather.

What is the worker expected to do, Sunny? Clean, cook, and care for the older gentlemen as well? How many hours a day? That seems like a full time job to me. And should pay a pretty penny.

The job pays $12 an hr and she gets 44 hrs a week. It is mostly to help the one who is paralyzed from the waist down...a suicide gone wrong. He is the quietest one though...never asks for a thing. They are quiet men...we are lucky for that. The youngest one is hard to make understand things..the middle one an older version of Sheldon from the Big Bang Theory.

She helps with sorting their pills, light housework, helping them do laundry, a weekly grocery trip and one large meal a day. The older two are responsible for cleaning their own bathroom and their bedrooms upstairs. They eat toast or cereal in the a.m. and sandwiches or canned soup for lunch.

I got there...the first thing they asked for was a big breakfast, a cooked lunch and homemade chinese food for supper. That was if I had time after making them bread, sugar pies and homemade chocolate cake with boiled icing. They said if I would like...it was o.k. with them if I wanted to clean their bedrooms after I cleaned their main bathroom as well lol

They did say they would do all the dishes themselves though. It's like looking after three grandchildren. haha

It sounds like looking after Teddy, sort of. Only he is less demanding. Simpler meal plan. No sweets unless you count vanilla shakes. And it's 24/7 with Ted.
I am glad you could do so much for them with your day. Do they live close? That would be a place I'd like to deliver to if it was on my way.

OH MY Sunny. It sounds as if you had your work cut out for you. and while it sounds as if they did take advantage of you, I also think they appreciated all that you did. You are a good relative. Was this an actual holiday or were you just being a good person??

Tina....now I am wondering...does Teddy help with anything around the house ?

I have finally began to paint a bunny rabbit to put out as decoration for Easter. The hard part was deciding the colors. I "think" I have finally got that part done.

He does help. He carries groceries in and helps put them away. Has to be watched or you find the oatmeal in the fridge and ice cream in the pantry, etc. Same with laundry. He loves "helping".

Hi all.

Tina, my uncles live a mile away...next door to my mothers. Junie, yes it was an actual holiday....although it was the first time for our province to have it so it made a mix up for the worker. She has to have clearance to work holidays. The uncles also did not get everything they asked for lol

School has been cancelled...our snow has turned to freezing rain. It is starting to be a mess out there. It is a good day to stay inside if possible.

Perhaps the holiday will run more smoothly next year, Sunny.

I am sure you did plenty for your relatives. I imagine they were very happy with what you did do for them.

I hope there are not too many extra "snowdays" for GG.

That was a nice thing to do Sunny. I would like for my mother to have a person come to her home 3 days a week.

Time is flying by. Hard to imagine Easter is just around the corner.

Hi y'all,
Lost the forum for a few years, but I am back now! Got a birthday wish out of the blue and that is how I found my way back. Yippie! So Tam, are your uncles the ones suffering from schizophrenia? Wow, my mom was schizophrenic, so I really understand where you are coming from.
Well, off to bed, glad to be back. Hope everyone is doing well!
Good night!

I remember back in the day we all got new dresses for Easter. When we were small we got hats too and gloves. Not sure when all that stopped. Easter, Christmas, and the start of school were the only times we got new clothes. Not like today when mothers buy their children clothes every other day.

Yes you are right. I remember mom would order my sister and I school clothes from "National Bell Has" or something like that. And we only got new clothes like you did. Well unless my shoes had holes in the sole...then I would get shoes on another occasion.

I remember my youngest telling me I should get a job........she said that would mean more Clothes For her......SMH

Hi all.

Yes Mary, I have three uncles and one Aunt with it...and a few more not diagnosed in my opinion.

I buy GG a new Easter dress every year...a tradition that I always did with DD. I always made DD's clothes so she was excited to get 'store bought' for Easter. I already have my eye on a pretty yellow dress with daisies on the Walmart site. grin

I have to go for groceries at the local store in a bit. It is so icy out there though.

Have a good one.

I can't imagine driving in ice. I can barely drive in the rain. I was never the best seamstress but did sew for my girls when they were little. They still talk about how traumatized they were for having to wear my home made clothes. :)

I made a lot of my girls clothes..not all but a fair amount. my favorite was a Valentine smock that I had a red dress to go under it. and then I made 3 pairs of PJ's...3 pants made with flour sack cloth. Then I bought white T-shirts in the proper size and trimmed them up (3 different designs) with the same cloth to match the pants. I still have them. I need to give them to Val for the girls.

I too have to run errands today. luckily it is 35*F out, so no ice to deal with. Sheri, I do not drive well in heavy rain or ice either.

Be safe Sunny. Your safety comes first.

I made a lot of clothes for my kids too. Until they outgrew the want of them.
I am home and it is freezing in here. I lit a fire to warm it up.

Sad part is that I can buy clothes cheaper at Walmart for the grands, than the price of fabric these days.

Groceries are bought for the week ahead.

I have to take G-boy for an appt. tomorrow. They are keeping an eye on his legs...they were so bowed at birth. They are straightening out quite well now.

That is a point. The price of fabric is why I stopped making my own clothes. And I really enjoyed sewing for myself.

Hi y'all,
Just checking in to see if anything exciting is going on. I am still trying to find my way around again, looks like the last post was yesterday at 10:55pm, so not much happening here. Have a good nights sleep to all.

The time stamps are all messed up on this forum, Mary. Every time I go in to fix mine they last for a little while and then there is something that happens ( an upgrade or something) and I've given up. The last post by Sunshine and then Juniegirl were sometime this afternoon.
Now I am headed out. Sweet dreams all.

Is this trip a special occasion or just 'cause, Carol? Either way, enjoy yourself and stock up on those baby hugs.
Cleaned out my fireplace and have dinner in the crock pot. So I am getting there.

This trip is two-fold, Tina.

1) Saturday evening we will watch the kids while Val, Brian, his parents, & his sister/BIL go to a Church Dinner Auction.
then
2) Sunday we will stay to attend the triplets 2nd Birthday Party. I am lucky she needed a baby sitter, as Rod had planned to NOT drive down for the Girls 2nd 2 yr birthday party...(remember there was just one here for the Dudley's last weekend here.....but he would not say no if Val needed our help...so YAY for Carol !!!

Have a fun trip Junie.

I took G-Boy for his appt. His legs have straightened out enough that no more appt's are needed. It was great news.

9:54 PM Friday

never would have thought of applesauce with fish. Homemade applesauce?

I took my mother to the doctor today. I'm exhausted.

Good news about G-boy.

Yes, homemade applesauce.. If you do not peel red apples, your sauce will be pink----you just have to run it thru a sieve when it is done cooking to remove the cooked peeling. Applesauce cuts the grease you would have with fried foods. I know it is better with say pork chops, but as it was homemade, Rod was pleased.

My mom has a Drs. appt. next Tuesday...she will not ask me to take her as it is a Tuesday---so I am off the hook this one time...but I completely understand your exhaustion.

Avocados can be halved, peeled and frozen. It is best to freeze on a plate of something to keep them from sticking together when bagged.. Then defrost when you're ready to use. I've got a half dozen gifted to me to do tomorrow.
Sweet dreams and safe travels tomorrow.

7:22 a.m. Canada time. lol

I haven't had avocado's in forever....we don't even see them in the stores anymore.

I will have to try the applesauce/fish combo. Homemade foods are the best...yummy.

I am not sure what today holds. Have a good one though.

4:32 Eastern PM Hope you're having a blast Junie.

Johnny eats applesauce with pork chops but I don't eat it. I've tasted it but it's just not something I eat. I do love avocados but I didn't know they can be frozen. I usually eat 1/2, put the other in the frig with olive oil drizzled over it, and eat it the next day. I had an egg, tomato, and avocado sandwich last night for dinner.

8:15 pm here.

My washer broke down. I tore it apart to find the transmission leaking oil...so I had to go buy a new one. I took the cheapest top load I could find~ $500. To my dismay it is a HE washer. I have no clue how long a washer with electronic sensors will last.

Anyone else have these new ones?

I have no clue. My washer here is about 30 years old and I love it. But I'll need a new one someday.
I am tired. It has been a busy day. Doing things not done often enough. Like scrubbing my base boards. Ugh. I'm going to feel that tomorrow. I feel it already.
But I am glad I slept well last night. What a godsend.

7:20 pm cs t.

My washer is 23 years old. I pray every time I wash that it will still work.
It's matching dryer is 14 yrs. old. I am a time bomb waiting to happen.

I cannot use HE washers. They are too low to the ground and my back cannot tolerate using one. They do wash well though. And as a note, my oldest CD packs it full and the clothes come out clean and w/o stains. And yes you can buy stands to raise them up, but that is $200.00 extra dollars. As long as there is top loader washers to buy, Carol will be buying them.

Party is over, house is straightened up. It was a good time.

9:17 PM Sunday 2/25

I forgot to time stamp my earlier post. Sorry.

The play was ok but last waaaay too long - 3 hours. Like I said, waaay too long.

I have an HE washer because that's all I could find but it's a top loader. We've had it close to 3 years I'd say and I just use an HE detergent and so far so good. Seriously couldn't even find a washer that wasn't HE but didn't have a problem finding a top loader. If I could have fixed my older washer I would have because they don't last long anymore.

Tina, the baseboard cleaning should have been handed to Jonni. Be careful with your back. kissie

The new washer is a top load as well. In fact, it is the exact same size and set up as a normal washer....except it is an automatic sensor fill up ad locks the lid while washing. I liked the older style better but not one appliance store carried any. My old washer was 14 years old.

Today I have a science fair to attend at GG's school.

Good morning all !!
I am at my desk working, as I still work out of my home, so really nice to not have to get up and drive somewhere. Or get all dolled up for an office. Very blessed to be able to walk down the hall to my office and be at work! We also built a home since I last was talking with everyone. Last summer was our first here, same zone as before, 6B. I planted quite a lot as far as annuals last year because I really love flowers and color, but this year, I am going to really go minimal. I would love to hear from any of you guys on what is some good perennials that flower. I did put in some hydrangea's, but they never bloomed last year, hoping to see them bloom this year. Do any of you buy from those on line nurseries?
Well, have a great day, sun shining here and that is wonderful as we have gotten about 6 inches of rain in the last week.

God bless!

I'll take some of your rain, Mary. Living in SoCal most of my plantings over the years have died off.
I have bought from on line sources in the past. And have had good luck.

2/26/18 12:23 pm cst.

I am home and have had lunch.

I have been told that one cannot use regular detergent with HE washers. It has to be HE detergent. Something to do with the amount of sudsing ? I really do not remember for sure what I was told.

Washing clothes as I sit here.

1:31 PM 2/26/2018 Mary, I'm in NC so our climates are so different but I have bought plants online and they've done well. I bought a few peonies a while back which have done well here and sent one to PA and from what I hear it's done great there. Here my hydrangeas have to be shaded even the ones that say they don't or they burn up. Hopefully yours will blooms this year. If you want specific flowers how about cone flowers that reseed and stay pretty for a long time.

Sunny, my washer has the automatic lock and water sensor thing too and I dislike them both. I have found out though, that if you disable the lid lock the warranty is voided.

i go to CA about 4 times a year and maybe more. My corporate office is in Redlands. Where are you and how far from Redlands? By the way, I love love love all the flowers and trees in CA. There are so many different kinds of each that I had never seen before in my whole life until I went to CA for the first time about 4 years ago. The Eucalyptus tree is really pretty and I took pics of absolutely HUGE Mandevilla bushes. Around here when I buy one for the patio, it gets about 2 foot hi, but wow in CA they are huge!

one other thing, I think it was last year that for the first time, in the spring the mountains had green on them. All the other times they were brown because no grass from the heat. But last spring, flew over the mountains coming in and there was green everywhere. I wasn't there my next visit a few months later, but it was pretty while it lasted. I was born and raised in Texas and like most Texans I am pretty proud of my state, but if I had gone to CA in my early years, i would have probably moved there. I really like it there.

Yes, I live near enough to Redlands that my older daughter who lives there came to help me clean house today.
Last year was a drought breaking year but this year, not so much.

I am in the local hospital. I brought momma in for a test. Lucky her (not) gets to be the first case.

But as a result, I may even get to go to ceramics yet today.

One of the ladies in my corp office just sent me a picture of the mountains (you can see them out the window in the office). There is snow below 3000 ft., so she sent me a picture. My boss said it snowed in Beaumont where he lives and he hates the cold. Praying for some relief for your beautiful state this year regarding the fires. I hope that the snows help.

You know, i feel the same way about my new washer that has the same features. I am not sure it cleans as well as the old washer I had and sometimes you open the lid and the top sheet or blanket is on top of everything else like a tent...not real sure about that washer. My whites just don't look as clean as they used to either.

well, it is 47 degrees here this morning, cold and about to start raining again. The clouds are moving in. We really have had a light winter, just real cloudy, which I really get tired of. Will be glad for the "open the windows and doors" weather to get here. I don't mind winter so much if it was just sunny more.

My favorite time of year is spring (of course) and then summer. Fall is next and poor old winter is last. Even though by the time it gets here I am ready for a snow and look forward to fires in the fireplace, but it gets old after a couple of months and by this time, I'm complaining...sorry folks.

What is your favorite time of year?

Back to work and have a great day all!

Hi all,

I have been awol long enough I guess... had my second foot surgery, healed up well and while I still have some pain I can wear reg shoes again, that's a good thing ... one more xray to get and will be done... almost a full yr now...
I won't rub in in about our weather here , though it may snow tonit , and it is windy... snow here is maybe an inch or so... blink and it's gone...LOL!
I think I finally got all our tax stuff ready to take to our tax guy in Az, going to have him do it for both states and Fed so it is consistent... we are going for a visit to kids too so will be a fun and busy trip... going to help DD look for a new car...she knows what she wants , just wants dad to help deal with the wheeling and dealing... her hubby is a comp nerd , doesn't know about cars and such...
Our Timothy has a job now... works at his Moms' store, just has to work when she isn't there... since she's the bookkeeper now and works in the very early morning and he can only work evenings that works out just fine.. he will be 17 soon... time sure has flown ... can't believe my youngest grands are 13 ... and I am a great grand 5 times over....do feel it sometimes though.... LOL!

We are mostly settled in out new house... still changing furniture around some... and looking for new lamps still.. meant to go to the bigger stores a couple weeks ago in Pnx but ran out of time... one of hubby's older sisters passed away... she had pancreatic cancer and didn't let anyone in family know till she had passed,, she was always the different one so didn't surprise us much but was a shock to hear, we went up for a memorial for her and was nice to see a lot of extended family we hadn't seen for a long time, just wish it hadn't been for that reason.... supposed to go to a family reunion the Memorial Day weekend but haven't committed to that yet,, it will be in Tucson... we did go the nursing home and see hubby's Mom... she was 100 last Sept and is still going... she has dementia and some days knows everyone and others not so much... so sad ..she just asks us to take her home every few minutes... but she requires a lot of care now and none of us could do it....

Well better go run my vacuum , spent most of day sorting tax papers and trying to clean up this messy office... it's finally getting kind of organized ... slowly... we bought one of those cube style bookcase units yesterday and there is tiny pieces of the foam all over my living room now from the packing box need to get it up before it gets all over house... good news is I think I am done buying furniture now...... maybe..... BIL came yesterday and ran more elec outlets in the garage for us... can now use my upright freezer, sure hope it still works ... we will see... would like to buy a quarter cow and fill it up , inlaws do that and it's so much better that the meat the stores carry here...

Have a good evening all! will try and visit more often now....
