Good morning. I've been up a couple of hours or more. But I got hung up on reading the news.
Happy First Day. I don't do resolutions. At least not more than normal daily ones I wake with every morning. And a new year belongs with a school year and ends sometime in June. And then there's summer.
But I hope everyone has a good year. Now I grab my checkbook and put 2018 on the next few checks to make sure I get it right.

Good morning. Now I grab my checkbook and put 2018 on the next few checks to make sure I get it right. That is a wonderful idea, thanks Tina !!! temp right now is 7*F. It was around - 7 or - 8 this morning around 7:30 BRRRR It is a good day to stay inside.

Hi all....Happy belated New Year  We have family home from another province...that took up my day yesterday. Then I drove GG to her mom's for a sleepover last night. Today I will spend the day running a list of errands..both mine and DH's. It will be nice to have a day to myself to browse through a few stores at the same time. It is not as cold today...minus -17*F. At least the cars start without having to be plugged in  Have a good one.

I am glad it's not storming today and you can get out, Sunny. Enjoy it while it lasts.
There is something satisfying in routine. Today I am going out to bank and shop for necessities. And pay some bills. I am eternally grateful that I can do that still.

Good afternoon.
I went to ceramics today.....YAY !!!! it was -2 when I left the house at 7:30 a.m. and it was 17 when I got home at 3:00 p.m.
Have I mentioned how much I dislike winter ?? well I do !!!
but hey, the sun is shining !

Hi all. It is minus -22*F this morning....there's not a bird to be seen. Even the crows are hiding I picked up GG last night...then GB followed. There was supposed to be a family b-day party for a cousin today. They changed it to tomorrow at last notice. I guess the fact that they are calling for 16 inches of snow starting tomorrow doesn't mean anything.  I'll bring GB home later and skip the party...I'll drop off the gifts on the same trip.

Sounds like a good plan, Sunny. IMO the Grand s do not need to be unnecessarily out in that type of weather. Keep warm !
It is around 21*F here this a.m....We are all breathing a sigh of relief. But "they" say the bitter cold will return next week.
I am soon off to visit with my sister. I wish you all a safe & warm day !

I happened to see my brother had posted a comment about liking Dell.. well so I posted how I had called Dell and had been sold a 4 cell battery for my laptop & was told that they no longer sold a 6 cell---as a result I have to charge my laptop every 12 hours---this is getting old---so now all of a sudden there is a 6 cell battery they can sell me, and have arranged to give me a refund---I am guessing upon the return of my 4 cell battery--well.....now I am way upset...I should have just continued to plug in my laptop.....I think they got caught trying to pull a fast one on me....
I am posting this so that other people are more wary than I have been.

Sweet dreams all. I am in the same situation. I took GB home last night,. He asked for his mother every hour...then we got there, he seen her and was wanting to come back home with me again Not much planned for today. Just waiting for this 'storm to beat all storms' to hit us. I know they want us to be prepared but it puts a lot of stress and worry on the elderly. They were all in a panic at the stores yesterday...stocking up for the end of the world. DD's friend works at the local pharmacy and she said it was so sad to see them begging to fill prescriptions ahead...which the pharmacy is just not allowed to do insurance wise.

Junie, the pharmacies here had too much trouble with 'missing medications' with the 3X prescriptions. They bubble pack all meds with the Gov't pension programs now. You get a big sheet with meds spaced out as you are supposed to take them at specified times and days. It is harder for people to 'sneak' your pills that way. The younger generation will do anything for a 'free high' at their parents/grandparent's expense...it is sad. They were just showing footage on the news of the snow that was falling in Florida.

Just took my Mom to the Drs. Came home and took a hot bath--I was paranoid about going into the Drs, office today.
Soup is on now--it is a quick soup...we will eat in about 30 more minutes

I love soup. Well, the storm is living up to it's predictions...over 20 inches of snow has fallen so far and it is still going. They had to pull all snow plows off the roads last night because the driver's were in a full white out. Half the province has no power....and it is still storming. We had the strangest phenomenon last night. It was so cold but warmed up so quickly with the snow that we had 'thunder snow'...it is when we get lightning and thunder while it is snowing. This is only the second time in my life that I remember having seen it. We are safe and warm. DH is out plowing on the Trans Canada highway ...he could use a prayer or two to help keep him safe. Thanks

We have an inch or 2 of snow this morning. No real problem except that I am thinking the roads will be icy.
Wow..That is a lot of snow, Sunny. It sounds horrid. I will be praying for your DH.
DH just told me he heard of the thunder snow being reported in the East coast. He seemed to remember it happening in New York ?
It is looking like we will go to my DD's tomorrow afternoon as the weather is to be nasty on Sunday.

How long are you going to be gone this time, Carol?
The winds in the area that exacerbated all the fire took a toll on my roofing. And on my roof mounted cooler. But repairs are on their way before Tuesday's expected rains come. I am happy.

glad that you will have your repairs before it rains, Tina. That males me smile.
We are leaving tomorrow (the 6th) because of the bad weather that is to come on Sunday the 7th. Then we will return the next Saturday (the 13th)
I have had a headache all day. I first thought it was my dirty hair as I do that to myself..but I washed it & the pain did not go away....I am very tired now but I still have a load of laundry in the dryer...when that comes out I will head to bed. sweet dreams

Have a safe trip Junie I am so glad that you have repairs underway Tina. Will your new helper be doing the repairs? Well the official snow totals are in~23 and 1/4 inches fell. Today it is minus -27*F so my roof is still not shoveled, I hope it warms up in the next day or two. I already had to start shoveling out the windows.

not as cold here--we began the day at -3*F but we are not at 2*F. Gotta be thankful for the little things.
I am in the middle of finishing up my packing. We will head down to Valarie's around 2.

A good rest feels good, doesn't it Tina? I just got in from shoveling the house roof. I had on three layers plus DH's snow suit...mine wouldn't fit with all the clothing I had on. ~It took me 4 hours and I am glad to be done....the shed can wait 'til tomorrow. I think apartment living might be an idea to think about as we age.

We are at my Daughter's house now. The girls took right to me. That was surprising as their "Aunties Shell" was there watching them. Henry was glad to see us also.
It is a bit warmer here, .....above freezing anyway.

Bad weather to hit here at 1:00 or so today. Val thinks she may not go to school tomorrow. That would be nice, b/c of she did we would get to spend more time with her.
We drive by a few houses today, & I saw a real nice one...But DH will not be buying yet,so I just as well not look now.

The roof is done. The rain starting tomorrow night should really be a good test. We are expecting up to 5 inches. I am worried about the burn areas. They could be in danger from mudslides. I hope the things in place keep it in check.

Sheri, so sorry for your unusual weather, Sheri. So very glad that your roof is done, Tina. That is one less thing to worry about. Let it rain, right ? The freezing rain did not arrive. It did rain, so the roads may be slick. Valarie is hoping school is called off tomorrow. I am too. Then her Mom will not have to worry about her driving on the roads. "It doesn't rain in California, it pours" as the old song goes. Although it's not true, it seems like it. Especially after big fires.

Good morning. It is raining hard off and on. And we are expecting thunderstorms today. My main leak was repaired. I've developed new ones. But we can sleep dry, so I am grateful.

Gracious Sunny. As a southerner I can't imagine that amount of snow. At my advanced age :) I don't even think I could adjust.
Is it your roof that's leaking Tina? Are you fixing things yourself or do you have help? I can't even get my Christmas tree apart by myself. It's 3 pieces that are connected by light cords and I can't get it apart. That's why it's still sitting in the living room.

I hear even the South is having a cold snap. I really do feel for you if that is so. After all there are many of us who are more used to the co!d, and to my notion, the southern states are not.

Tina, roof leaks are awful. A new roof is #1 on our list this year....we have no choice. I got the shed roofs shoveled yesterday. I just got in from shoveling out the front door...it is never ending. I'd work less if I had a 'real' job.

He's pretty nice I guess but he didn't bring it up the stairs and put it in the attic. I had the ornaments off. All he did was take it apart - it's in 3 pieces and I'm too short to handle it. I thought he would bring it upstairs this morning but NOT. I had a time.

Hi. I was busy and away Carol...the last 'elder' of our community died yesterday, he was 93. He was the last person from my grandparents generation...he also lived next door to me growing up. He never suffered so that is good. We are getting rain today, changing to freezing rain later in the day...we get a day or two of that every January. They are calling for a flash freeze tonight with a snow storm tomorrow. I plan to do all laundry today just in case of a power failure.

I am sorry for e loss, Sunny. We were supposed to get the flash freezing here, Sunny, but it did not get that bad. I washed all of the clothes in the house here too.
I have come to the conclusion that we do not have enough underwea r in our house r, if my DD. and her family have the correct amount.
I am beginning to wear out......

Safe travels....stop and pick up those extra undies on the way It rained yesterday afternoon, it down-poured last night...it was strange to see. This morning the freezing rain has started and by lunch time we were told that a foot of snow should start to fall. You could literally put on skates and go down the road. Tina, we are finally getting news footage from Cali, I am keeping your family in my thoughts and prayers. Do you personally know people affected by the mud slides?

Sounds like a plan Tina. I opened an 'office-in-a-box' I bought with part of my Xmas gift card. It is just a plastic container with cover that includes different file holders, file stickers, calculator, pens and such. It is awesome...I just spent the last three hours sorting out papers, junk and shoe boxes of receipts. I now have a file/receipt system contained all in one. What a great gift idea to give others I think  We are getting ice pellets again.

I will do little today. We went to church, then out to eat (my treat). Now I think I will try Sheri's advice on my cactus and then move my plants around so as to make room for the printer that my Niece brought and gave to me. It seems that she does not use it any longer. so YAY for me. it is very cold here. The gauge says it is 26..I think it is wrong..I am way cold....even in the house.

I have offended a man and his wife at church without intending too. I apologized but the wife refuses to accept my apology and refused to speak to me this morning. The man made a FB post concerning the crude remarks President Trump made the other day. His post was not out of the way at all and I thought it was stated nicely. So I commented that I had heard an interview with the Haitian Ambassador about the comments and he was very classy in his comments. That was it. And this man and woman decided that I was disagreeing with him and was implying his comments were low class. In my mind I was agreeing with his comments and I told them that but the wife refuses to believe it. Oh well.

here is what I think: There is no talking to some people. I would just forget it. The more you try the more they will remember the whole situation. if she ever brings it up to you again, just make light of it, say you are so very sorry that she misunderstood you, and then smile & either walk off or change the subject. Snowing rather heavily now----Cindy"weatherstl.com " says that we will get a light dusting today (then the forecast reads up to 5"  ) temp is down to 24*F

I have been without power for about eleven hours. It got old once the sun went down. I expected iy back on earlier in the day so I never messed with my generator. Then it was too dark...
But it's back for now and Teddy brought me the two solar lights I set him up with in his room.

OH MY, I am so sorry to hear this, Tina. When you didn't come in I assumed that you were just very busy. So glad the power is back on for you.
It is nice that you have a generator though. We should have one. I guess I need to invest in a few solar lights....we are counting on flashlights right now.

The cheap solar lights (97 cents at Walmart) are great for adding enough light to the bathroom to take care of business or to give the kids safe lighting to play with in a power out situation. I put them away unused until needed. But the older ones, say older than 3 years, don't hold up so well. They tend to light up but only keep their light for a couple of minutes. I'm learning lessons all the time.

Hi all.
I see Tina and I had the same troubles...we lost power on and off steadily. It was restored but our internet was out with the cable lines.
The ice storm was awful. DH had to use a heat gun to get into his vehicle...the ice was so thick. My car is still covered. Good old Mother nature.
I keep a few of those lights also from the dollar store. I buy the ones that look like little lanterns...they use AAA batteries.

It is very cold here. I think now that I am home for the day (it is Tuesday after all). I will not go anywhere that I do not have to. Brrrrrrrr

Sunny you will laugh at this but we're expecting between 2 - 4 inches of snow tonight and everything is already closed for tomorrow. It's going to warm up Thursday so it won't hang around long but we're shut down for the next 24 hours.
Tina, I hate being without power. Our generator is in the shop. It runs on gas and was leaking gas at the end of last winter and nag I did, day after day after day, and Johnny never took it to the repair man and wouldn't help me load it to take it so here we are in January without it fixed. Makes me so mad.
I'm going to look for a few of those solar lights.

Next chance of rain is Friday. I hope my roof is finished by then. It's down to bare wood on about a third of it.

Tina---hoping that your roof is soon completed...that COULD be a real mess if it is not done in time.
after some paperwork in the AM I think it is well time that I take down my Christmas Decorations...
