Today I discovered a ginormous hornworm on my tomato plants. I immediately got it off the plant and then sprayed it with organic insecticide to kill it. I looked and looked and looked but did not see any others on my tomato plants. But it's not possible for there to be only one is there? There is no noticeable damage to my plants but I know these things can work quickly and be quite destructive. I sprayed my plant with the organic insecticide to be safe. Should I keep looking for these things to pop up?

We are having a really mild fall, with temps still in the low 80s, so I [Linked Image] would like to get a few more weeks out of my plants if I can. They are loaded with tomatoes right now.

You are correct. There is rarely only one of any pest. It sounds like you are doing about all that you can. Unless you can sprinkle some diatomaceous earth around the plants. No bugs can handle that.
Good luck!

Glad I found this...today I found Tomato hornworms on all of my plants--well I found 2 on one plant but the other 3 are missing leaves as if a hornworm has eaten them as well......tomorrow I will be getting out my dust & insecticides & hopefully take care of them.

BUT I will put this out there---I just read where Basil is a GOOD companion plant to deter such worms--well nope--all 4 plants have basil by them and it did not stop any of the 4 from getting the worms...SMH

We don't have those here....the first time I heard of them was when watching the Dolly Parton movie of her childhood. They had to pick them off the tobacco plants. Are they as big as in the show?

well the ones I picked off were 3 inches, give or take, but they can get bigger...The internet says up to 4 inches. In my mind they would be easy to spot--well, I have a hard time finding them...

I have to wonder if the ones on Tobacco plants are bigger yet..

DE is a good solution. I applied it to the planting hole when I transplanted my tomato plants.
