Howdy, I have a large backyard which is in bad shape from the past so many years. I would like to give it a new look. My friend suggested going for a water feature like a pond or fountain as it would suit my house background. I saw a blog suggesting some methods of renovation for your backyard. [ http://inthebackyard.ca/4-creative-landscaping-ideas-for-your-backyard/ ]. As I haven"t done this before, I would like to get your suggestions on creative designs and ideas. It would be of great help if you can suggest me some reasonable designers who can help me out. Thanks in advance.

I'll be following this too jovinnah. I'd like a water feature in my yard too and have no idea where to start. :)

My suggestion would be to do it yourself. Start with a basic plan and begin. Start small and grow with it. It will end up more like you want it.

Not knowing what your yard looks like I would start by bringing in dirt, if needed, and doing some group plantings. You can ask someone at your local garden nursery what will grow well in your area. Our yard was a mess when we moved in, we had all the leggy, half dead plants removed, and then I got advice from a few nursery people and took it from there.

We tried a water feature one time but it didn't work out well. I'd love to have one.

I have two fountains that I got at the end of Summer from Fred Meyers (Kroger) years back; but it you have the room you can build your own fountain (I have a very limited amount of space here in Portland, OR).

what I did was bring on some treated wood and made a raised bed for a large flower garden..mine is 14 ft by 4 feet.

But any size that would fit would be nice. It contains the flowers well and makes it easy to weed.

Some flowers are perennial and some, in areas that are easily accessible, are annual, so to help change the look each year.
