I seen on the news that a large tornado touched down in Washburn, IL. I pray Junie is o.k. I don't know how far it is from her.....it was on video that someone had taken.

School has been cancelled due to freezing rain...what a crazy Winter we are having.

Keep safe everyone.

~~~~~~~~
I just Google mapped...the tornado hit a two hour drive North of Junie.
I hope she's ok.
Good morning. I'm just back in from checking the area for damage while sipping my coffee. We are supposed to get warm today but it's still in the 40's. I'll believe it when it's warm.
Happy March.
I hope everyone has a good day.
Happy march 1st.
Thanks for the concern ladies...Washburn, IL is 160 miles north of me. (I just googled it)
Yesterday evening was quiet. According to the TV the storms were south of us some. (?)
Then around 11 it began to rain.
I went to sleep at 11. Sometime during the night I heard storms but the weather radio did not wake us, so the bad stuff did not come our way.
Today it s warm and VERY windy. And it is overcast.
But I am fine and so is the house so it is all good.
Thanks again shewinks
Thanks Tina. It is still quiet and calm here---from what the weather people say, the stormy type weather has moved to the east.
Tomorrow it is going to be in the 40's and then it will get warmer for a few days....
I am headed to bed I wish everyone a great (& safe) night. sweet dreams
Hi all.
I lost power yesterday...got it back through the night. Now the freezing rain has turned to a snow storm...school is cancelled once more. March is surely coming in like a lion.
I am relieved to see Junie is safe.
Was there any damage Tina...you stated you were going to check on things in one of your posts.
No, it is more an opportunity to see the sunrise, Sunny. It is the best way to enjoy coffee in the mornings.
Good morning. I am up before the sun again. I have a lot to do today. Let's see what I can accomplish.
I hope everyone has a wonderful day.
Good Morning all.
I am glad that your power is back on Sunny....may it stay that way. Tina, I am glad to see that you do not have any damage to deal with. How are you on the drought front??
I have errands to run today, but then what else is new?
The drought is low right now. But all it would take is a single lower than normal rainfall year to plunge us back in it. Deep.
Sunny are all these missed school days already added in the yearly schedule or will you guys be making up days all spring and summer.
Our area has had some horrible storms with giant sized hail and tornados and power outages. Thankfully most of it has missed us. It has been close to 80° and I think it's supposed to be back to 26° tomorrow morning. I like the 26 better than the 80. I breath better when it's cold. Plus I hope it kills some bugs. Will 26° kill mosquitos which are already out in full force?
Johnny had planned for us to meet another pastor and his wife for dinner tonight. I was trying to be pastoral wife like (which is extremely hard for me) and not complain but I did NOT want to go. Bad news (I suppose) is that a lady, who I don't even know, who used to come to church some years ago but has been sick and in a nursing home a long, long time died today so Johnny is going to see her family family and the good news is that he has cancelled the dinner. To me when you're sick or old or demented for hundreds of years it's not a bad thing to die but Johnny thinks I'm a terrible person for thinking that. I think this woman started going to another church before she got sick or old or whatever has killed her but her sister and some nieces and nephews still come to our church. I mean I don't want to be out of my mind and bedridden for 40 years. They said she has bedsores and pneumonia and had lost her mind. Gee whiz. Isn't it a good thing to go meet your maker? Anyway dinner is off and I'm glad.
Did I tell you I had highlights put in my hair and now I look like a ho (to quote Teddy). I said "a few streaks." Turned out to be my whole head. I look like Tammy Lynette.
I am sad when an elderly person passes away but pretty pragmatic about it too. I feel they are probably better released from their ailments also. I, however, am not in a hurry to see what's next any time soon.
I think that when death comes and eases a person's suffering, it is a different kind of loss. While it is hard to let them go...it is a comfort to know the pain is gone. It's a strange feeling that you have to go through to really understand I guess.
Sheri, a few years ago they put the March break from two weeks to one and added another week to the end of the school year to compensate for missed days....apparently they are saying now that it is still not enough.
I have errands to run today....I hate driving an hour just to go into town.
here the school thing was always fun. (not) Some schools went by days & some went by hours. The hours were always more fun for us to go by, as our school day (parochial school) was longer than the public schools so our kids went to school less days in the end. That always suited me just fine.
I am thinking (?) that now a days there is more to learn & so the school year is longer.
I have just made the executive decision that I am going to go out on a shopping day for Carol today. It may be a window shopping day but a shopping day none-the-less.
I wish you all a great day.
Good morning.. I will be going out today. I need to do some banking.
This will be our last warm day and we're going back to cool. I am not happy about that. But some rain would be nice.
I hope everyone has a good day.
So let me tell you what has happened. Our county taxes are due January 1st but are not considered late if they are mailed in and postmarked by January 28th. We either have to go in and pay by debit card or check or mail a check. We can't do it online or over the phone. So Johnny mailed a check the morning of the 27th and thought we were good. In checking our bank statement last night he finds that the county drafted the taxes from our account without permission or notice on January 27th then our check was paid on the 30th. First he called the bank to make sure what he was reading was correct and to find out how it could happen. He was told that the county can draft accounts when needed without prior authorization. How is this true? How do they even have our account information? She didn't know the answer to that but said it happens all the time when people don't pay their taxes. Johnny explained that he was not late paying his taxes and he was advised to go to the tax office which he did. The manager at the tax office told him that since January 27th was on a Friday that taxes were accessed a day earlier than what was sent out in the notices and "unfortunately" that fact was overlooked when our check was received in the office on Monday the 30th. She further said that "yes, the county has carte blanche to access checking accounts of people owing money to the county" and even if we try to fight it we will not prevail. And then the real clincher is that it will be between 4-6 MONTHS before a refund can be generated.
About schools - Darbi's and Colby's and Aubry's schools are out March 10th but Darbi has a school softball game that afternoon. Who makes up these schedules?
That is awful, Sheri. I would hate that. The county would find my account empty if they did that.
Schools are weird.
I went out, two banks and a grocery store. And set up my budget for the month. I never finished it on the first.
Now I'm going to pop my kid in the bath while it's warm. I'll see y'all when we're cleaned up.
I agree with Tina, Sheri. I too would be very upset---just in what world can the government get into your bank account. That is wrong on ALL kinds of levels.
And if they tried to do that to me, they would not find enough in there to remove for all of my taxes. Last year I paid them in 4 "installments". It will have to be the same this year.
I think I would check into the "laws" if I were you. Do you or Johnny have a lawyer friend??? Do you think that at some point you had the money removed electronically & there might have been a clause in the "agreement" that stated they could remove the money for there on out???
I am so very sorry for you.
