The day has been safe but not very warm lol

I hope the ice leaves soon Junie. The news said it was covered from Oklahoma to Illinois.

Yes, and many people are doing w/o power. Luckily (in Missouri anyway) they are restoring power in record time. here, we have not lost power. AND this afternoon it warmed up enough to melt the ice on everything so tomorrow when the next round of ice comes it will not be adding to what is already on the power lines & such. I am still freezing. I think a warm bath is in order.

I need to stop making desserts.

Good Morning.

Most of the ice is gone now--it is supposed to be all over by noon. We can hope so. I am getting cabin fever.

I wish everyone a great day !!!

My sister who lives in West Virginia is covered in ice too but here it has been 64° today. We had a few drops of rain but not enough to bother any one or do any good.

We had a visiting minister at church today and he was wonderful.

Going to bed.

Hi all...we lost power off and on yesterday due to winds. Luckily it was restored in time to take GG ice skating...she now looks forward to Sunday.

It is cold but no ice in sight...just a few inches of snow here and there for the week.

Off to make banana muffins and a fresh cheesecake(we have company coming tonight).

OHHHH Cheesecake--YUM !!! if there is any left I will be right over....

We did not go to church yesterday. I did not want to fall. So, we waited until the temps were up, before we went to see my MIL.

So glad that you ladies did not have ice. Snow can be dealt with, but ice not so much.

I am off to get cleaned up for Drs. appt. it is just a check-up, so no big deal.

I wish you all a great day.

We had ice...lots of it. Thankfully it has turned to snow for a bit.

I hope all goes well with the appt.

I made a banana cheesecake. I crush a small pouch of graham crackers and mix with 3 tbsp melted butter. Press in pan, bake 350 for minutes. Cool.
I then make a pouch of fake whip cream, put aside. In another bowl I cream one pack of cream cheese with 3/4 cup of white sugar...whip well then add in half the bowl of whip cream. Mix again.
Put sliced bananas on top of the cooled graham crust, pour the cream cheese mix on top...add more banana slices then cover it with the remaining whip cream.
Put in fridge for at least 3 hrs..it is the best fresh cheesecake a person can make in my opinion.

Sounds great----no eggs & np baking...I am going to try it next time I need a dessert..thanks for the recipe.

The DR. said I am fine---and when they took my pulse it was good...so he was not concerned.....he did however give me a good going over.

Cheesecake is one of my favorites. I've never made one though so more power to you Sunny. If I lived closer I'd taste test it for you.

I'm watching Out Daughtered. Can't imagine and don't even want to think about it.

Our church was cancelled last week when we had ice and snow. I don't want to fall either.

Oh Junie, I was cleaning out the toy room and found a beautiful card you sent in 2009. I also found a Christmas card from Merme and Maxi. Wonder whatever happened to him. Darbi, Tori, and I used to use pictures from cards to make other cards or crafts so I always kept the pretty ones. Remember Badplanter (Mark)? I had a card from someone in Malaysia. Wonder what happened to all our friends. I hope everyone is doing well. I imagine Mark is out of college for sure by now.

It is such fun to find cards like that. Glad I could make you smile once again. I will look in my book & see who was from Malaysia, Sheri...And I too think that mark would be out of College.

I imagine that Maxi is living with his dad now that Merme has passed. I wish him well.

I am really going to sleep now--G'nite to you all. wavy

I wonder about other members often...hoping they are all well.

I was gone all day yesterday..there was a death in my Uncle's family(an Uncle by marriage). I stayed at their house with the kids while they gathered at his sister's. The nephew was killed in a car accident.

Hoping Tina's modem issues are resolved soon.

I am still 'kid sitting' at my Aunt's house...then I had to leave from there to run DH's errands. It feels good to be home.

I know the feeling about it feeling good to be home.

I just got out of the tub, & soon I will go make some popcorn & then I should go to bed soon after that. I have yet another Drs. appt. again tomorrow. This is also a check up, so that is a good thing.

So, I will say goodnight to you all now. Sweet Dreams...

I looked back in last night at the inauguration festivities, and saw the President & Vice President & their wives dancing. can you just even imagine being in that position....in seems surreal to me.

I have already been cleaning/straightening. I just dropped in but must now get back to my schedule.

I wish you all a great day !!

TINA !!!

So very good to see you. I hope all goes well with your storms, and that they leave you unscathed. Glad to hear from you and that you are prepared for your storms.

Tuesday--that is not so long to wait....I hope they are able to fix you all up so you can use your computer like you want to.

I had a wonderful day yesterday. My SIL (from Virginia) came to visit and he brought my oldest Grandson with him. It was must wonderful indeed.

I am exhausted today......

Yes, a visiting grandson would tire me out too.
The rains are pounding. I think we will get our 6+ inches. The winds are howling also. And it's colder than they originally called for today.
But enough of my complaints. I am online for the moment.

We came back from Ginger's today just as the rains and tornado warnings hit the island. It poured on us for a few miles then let up to where it wasn't bad driving and the traffic was the best it's ever been. Thankful for that. I hate driving in the rain. We had beautiful weather while we were there and stayed outside the majority of the time. We rode bikes and played basketball and had a great time. Colt has grown up so much. Time goes by too fast. Chris went to the inauguration.

Junie glad you had a visit with your grandson.(Henry is it?)

Tina, hope you're not washed away.

Good morning. I am up early.
I have a long list of things I would like to accomplish today. But I'm afraid the list is longer than my stamina. But something will get checked off at least. I already started the fire in here today to take the chill off.
It's raining lightly and if it continues like that or improves, I'll go out and get Teddy food. If the roads aren't flooded, that is.
I hope everyone has a great day.

Hi all.

I have a very sick little girl this weekend....she has gastro. I have been too busy (and tired) to even turn on the computer yesterday. We were up again all night. I absolutely dread these school virus's.

I am glad that Sheri and Junie got in some family time, Tina I hope your wet weather spares you any damage.

We have just got a weather message warning of a bad storm starting late tonight...up to two feet of snow in 48 hrs. The snow isn't looking so pretty anymore lol

Thanks Sunny. it was wonderful to spend time with family. So sorry for your sick Grand girl. I do so hope that the virus is short lived and that she does not "share".

Tina, I must say it is nice to be seeing you. I hope that your wet weather clears so you can get out to get Teddy his food, and so that you do not have to be concerned with what all the rain could do.

I will be staying home today. I think since I am here I will try to catch up on bookwork. Lucky me already has supper made & sitting in the fridge, ready to be warmed.

Thanks everyone...she seems to be slowly getting better, meanwhile I am washing clothes, all the bedding and all the carpets that she decided to 'share' on. Washing large carpets in the tub is not a fun way to spend the day.

The joys of kids lol

OH MY sorry for the washing of rug in tubs.....I was lucky, my kids learned early on to "try" to hold it in until I got them down to the bathroom. well except for once when Valarie "shared" all over her bed.....BUT there were lots of times that I kept a bucket by their beds.

Sad thing of all of this is you will miss it when she is all grown up...

I am so very cold....I need to go find a sweater.....

A virus has been going around here too. Hope it doesn't encircle me. Shelley has never figured out how to make it to the bathroom. She says she has no warning. Johnny says the same thing. If they vomit once they sleep with a pot next to their head.

I can't imagine having to deal with that much snow. It would lock us down for sure.

One good thing about going to Ginger's is I wash clothes there just like I do at home so we don't come back with a suitcase full of dirty clothes. Andy must have stayed up and partied the whole time because he's been asleep most of the day.

Darbi had exams today so I got to pick her up early from school. She's so fun.

I cannot imagine dealing with that much snow either. I remember once Sunny showed us a photo of the snow & her roof peeking out of the snow----I will never forget that photo.

LOL about Andy. perhaps he stayed up & was on sentry duty the whole time you were gone. Since you were home he figured it was safe to sleep now.....?? just me thinking out loud Sheri...

Goodnight Tina, sweet dreams. (Hey tomorrow is the 24th..GOOD LUCK !!!!)

Good morning.

We get used to the weather we have to deal with...not knowing it any other way. I can't imagine having to deal with the heat that you all get. Also snow equals no mosquitoes haha

We are now under a freezing rain warning for through the night...our temps are staying milder than normal for this time of year.

Grandgirl is better...thankfully.

Today will be a day of Lysol, mopping and such...I need to sanitize the germs away.

Good luck with the serviceman Tina.

We got a break in the weather long enough for me to head out to the local grocery store...they had a great sale on pork chops and I loaded up to last me a few months.

Hi !!! I had a great time (as always) at ceramics today. When we all got to the restaurant my old high school was having a luncheon day and so I got to see my sister as well.
I do not go to these as they are always on a Tuesday.

Tina, I hope the service men are there..

Sunny...great on the pork chops..and yes good idea on using the Lysol. That is some great stuff.

Waiting now for my friends to pick me up as we are going to the funeral home to pay our respects to another friends sister.

Great on getting to see your sister today, Carol.
I use to love pork chops. But pork is so lacking in flavor anymore. I pass on it most of the time.
Well, the phone company didn't show. But I found out that I am not alone on the ranch with similar problems. For a similar length of time. I'll be on the phone with them tomorrow to find out when it is supposed to be next.

Junie, you may be right about Andy. Maybe he's constantly on guard while he's there. Smart thinking.

Tina, sorry about the phone man. A bit aggravating I'd say.

Sunny, glad grandgirl is better. I love the smell of Lysol.

Keep safe, Sunny. Was school canceled for the ice?
Good morning. It's early yet but it's cold. I wanted to put wood on the fire out here to ensure the room stayed as warm as possible. And once I get beyond the 'going potty' steps, I'm kind of awake. It's 36* outside my door. Too cold for me.
I need coffee. I plan on spending at least a part of the day on the phone. That means I have to fortify myself.
I hope everyone has a good day. And wakes well!

Good Morning !! Apparently we are on our way back to more "normal/colder temperatures) It was in the 50's early early this morning & now it is in the 40's headed for the 30's. Still I will take that over colder temps.

Sunny, Thanks for the warnings of the ice storm....stay safe. I too wonder about the school situation. I do hope either way, you kept GG home.

Tina. Funny you mentioned the potty routine. it seems I have to go several times in the morning before I get to start my day. Thankfully I am past that for today.

I hope your phone conversations go well.

Our weather has been beautiful today and Andy and ToDeTa have been outside a lot of today. I'm thinking I want to get the trellis and plant green peas.

I met Shelley at the gym this morning at 8:30 for a cardio dance class. A person thinks she's in shape from the elliptical machine and weight training but let me tell you she's NOT. Evidently there are muscles hiding until the dance music starts. [Linked Image]

Any ideas on my little cast iron pan? It just won't clean up.

Also still thinking about how I can fix my window. Any ideas on this? I like Junie's lace pattern idea but don't know what kind of paint will work without covering the other paint.

Is your pan rusty, Sheri. Then a vinegar bath is called for. If it is cooked on food, then an dousing with Easy-off (yellow cap and seal it in a bag for a few days. Continue until it is clean and then season.

That is a good idea, Tina...I was thinking that a "dip" in an outdoor fire would work---but I like your idea much better. Sounds a lot easier.

About the window----put the lace in one way spray, then move it and spray another color----if you do not want to cover some parts, cover that area with a solid piece of say cardboard.

Have you looked on Pinterest ?? I bet you could find some ideas there.

Good morning....I just chased a fox out of my yard.

We got our power back. We are luckier than most, there are over 90,000 people doing without for their second day....and some will see day four or five without it. They say it was the second worst ice storm seen by our power company ever.

I agree with Tina, oven cleaner will strip the pan. My grandmother used to clean her pan with a raw potato and salt.

Sheri, do you just want to cover the glass panes itself? You can 'modge podge' lace, material or even paper if so. One can also buy all kinds of peel and stick coverings also.

Today I have a mess to deal with outdoors and a batch of bread to make.

Have a good one.

This cast iron pan is an original Erie #3. The bottom, where the symbol is, and the handle, where the number is, came pretty clean BUT the actual cooking surface won't clean. I'm pretty sure it's not cooked on food. It's rusty looking and soaking in vinegar (which I've done 3 times) has only cleaned parts of it. The part that is cleaned is down to the bare metal.

The window (I should take a picture) has a big flower painted on the panes taking over a lot of the area. There is no way to paint just the part that is not already painted.

ok then, I think you should either clean it again (& again of needed) or have Johnny make a fire in the back and when the wood is down to coals, put t he pan in the coals...(have coals in & outside) for a good amount of time. Then after some time has passed drag it out & scrap it while it is still hot. If you wait until it is cool again, it will most likely be just like it was before the burning.

Now, I have not ever done this, I have just read of it...so you decide if you should do this.

Good morning.

Grandgirl is sick again..it is a lingering bout of gastro. There was no school for half the week anyway due to the weather. Quite a few kids have it they said.

Still 60,000 people here with no power....they started moving people yesterday to alternate towns(warming center's) due to the cold. Thankfully we still have ours.

Tina, I hope they work out your internet issues soon.

I need to clean and mop here in a bit....I also need to bake some sweets for the week.

Sorry for so many people having no power Sunny. I so dread that. I have lost entire freezers full in the past for that reason. Lucky for us our gas fireplace will work w/o power, so warmth is not an issue. The sump pump is, but when we discussed it, Rod said he would just spend his time carrying buckets of water out of the sump all day. OH well.

Anyway, I hope that power is restored to the people in your area soon, and that you do not lose it in the mean time.

So sorry to hear that GG is still sick. I hope she recovers soon.

Tina, I hope you can get your internet back up and working properly soon.

I think I will be going to visit my sister today. I wish you all a great/warm/healthy day.

Good morning. Today, I'm buying some tar to plug up a bad leak on my deck that sprung up in the last downpour. But no one is climbing on the roof to do that until the winds die down. Up to 70 mph.
I'm glad I've got power and wood to burn. I feel for all those in distress.

Sorry for your internet problems, Tina--I hope you are able to resolve the issues sooner rather than later.

Rod thinks he may be getting a cold...It seems a co-worker came to work with a cold & he does not feel just right tonight now. I do so hope he does not share with me if he is sick.

I too am headed to sleep now- Sweet Dreams..

Thanks James.

I hope your repair is an easy fix Tina, How is the new worker fairing out?

Junie, keep Rod at bay....Winter colds are awful.

We will be going to visit Grandboy today...and to take them grocery shopping.

We still have 50,000 with no power in places....2 dead from carbon monoxide poisoning with another 2 in hospital fighting for their lives.(all 4 separate incidents)...day four for them, they have declared a state of emergency. Pipes are bursting as well, people are freezing. To think of such things this day and age is just heartbreaking. It shows how dependent people are on power.

I am glad you have alternate sources if your power goes out.

Sunny, that's just terrible. What is your temperature. Lots around here are unprepared for cold weather because we rarely have it. The power goes out all the time but it's rare that someone freezes to death and then it's usually a homeless person who for whatever reason doesn't go for cover because shelters and hotels do offer boarding for the homeless in extreme cold conditions even if it causes overcrowding. Burst pipes have been keeping Johnny in business for years. How in the world do plumbers get around in your kind of weather? I read that this is your second worst power outage every. Glad you have power and hope everyone else gets theirs sooner than later.

We met friends for our tour of the 25 best restaurants in NC in Blowing Rock yesterday, it was snowing. windy, and 21° and I was practically frozen. I can't imagine what it's like at Sunny's house. The restaurant is The Game Keeper and it's #12 on the list. The food is local, sustainable, and expensive. Johnny had beef tenderloin. I had trout. $106.75. No one in our group thought this a place that they'd plan to return too. The restaurants are usually pricey but the food but the food is usually very good.

Thanks Jamesyay

WOW $106.00 I do not think I could enjoy a meal that costs that much--well unless it was a special occasion. I am glad that the food was good, Sheri. That made it better I am sure.

sweet dreams from me as well.

Good afternoon. Rod has a full blown cold. I went to see my MIL and then I was going to go out to eat & bring home something for Rod. he said not to bother that he would eat soup when I came home. So, I went to the grocery, bought some chicken legs & they are currently in the oven along with some onions & carrots for me. I AM starved.

I think I am getting the cold....I bought some Emergen-C to take. I like the Aireborne but this was cheaper. Plus my Pharmacist says that he likes the results with the Emergen-C better. So, we shall see how it works for me.

Tina, I sure hope you get your internet fixed to your satisfaction soon. I can see just how frustrating that must be.

Good morning.

Sheri, it has been in the minus teens and twenties this week. Do you go on restaurant tours often? It sounds like fun.

Tina, have they figured out what is causing the internet trouble?

Feel better soon Junie.

Another 2 have died and another 31 in hospital. Carbon monoxide is a silent killer. Still over 20,000 with no power...day 6 or 7 for them. I am calling for generator prices today...we will order one this month for sure.

Tina, hope your comment about it not being a good day was only about your phone service and nothing else. Glad to see you were able to post this morning.

Junie, it's 12:00 noon here. Why were you checking your time stamp? I'm not sure how to write this where it will be understood but I thought somewhere all our times are figured where we're the same or something of the such. Not even sure what I mean to say but I know in my mind somewhere. (crazy)

Sunny, a school class mate (she and I won the 3 legged race at field day in the 5th grade) put on FB that she was going to tour the 25 best restaurants in NC if any classmates would care to join. Johnny and I have been to 3 restaurants. I think they've been to a total of 6. We're doing it over 2 years because most of these best restaurants are expensive and that gives us time to save up the money. The next restaurant is in Charlotte and one that Johnny has frequented a lot over the last 30 years and it's not expensive at all. They don't even have seating. It's Prices Chicken Coup and he says you walk up to a window, order, stand and wait until they call your number, take your food and go. He eats in his work van while on the way to the next job. When my step dad was a policeman in Charlotte he'd get food from this place too. I've always heard that it's great food. I'm looking forward to trying it after all these years.

Junie, the food at The Game Keeper was NOT that good. Not work $106.75 for sure. We ate at the Waffle House for $20.00 last night and it was 100 times better than The Game Keeper.
Hope you don't get sick. Funny this morning on the phone Ginger told me "Colt is trying to get sick" and I heard Colt say "No I'm not. I'm not trying to get sick." Love that boy.

I was looking at others time stamps & then mine & I thought perhaps mine was off a bit...so I am going to check it out...I always thought that we each set our time stamp to be right in our time zone--so we have a better time reference. EX: if a person in one time zone posts, it will show up in my feed as my time so I have a better reference as to when they posted...I may be way wrong...but my time stamp seems to go wrong every once in awhile.

I find that a lot...I am sorry that you paid so much for food that was not good...BUT I think the whole concept of going to a lot of different restaurants is a fantastic plan. YAY for you.

Hi all.

I called for pricing on generators and was told that it is recommended to have a 4000W start up. Of course there are none to be found because of the current situation but we were told to go to the hardware store and put our names on a list....we should have one by April. shock

Not sure what today has in store...besides the usual.

Good morning. A generator in April is better than no generator at all, Sunny.
I will go out today and shop for a few items we need. Get my trash to the dumpster and such. In general, get ready for more rain.
I hope everyone has a nice day

I agree, to get a generator in April is a better idea that to have no generator. You will be ahead of the game come next winter. And, sadly next winter and all of it's troubles will return soon enough.

After ceramics today, I got some gas today and took my Mom her Christmas party item that "Finally" arrived yesterday.

Rod is still not well but is feeling better.

Hi all.

I agree with the April situation....and our tax return should be in by then as well, so no taking out of the emergency fund.

It is bitterly cold today...I think I will make a large pot of spaghetti and meatball sauce to warm us up. grin

Oh, zap some of that my way, Sunny.
Good morning. Getting ready for more rain here. And it's a new month so budgeting is on my list.
I wish everyone a good day.

Hi all.

DH was sent home from work yesterday with the stomach flu, he is still home today....need I say more?

Today I have to dismantle my washing machine...the water continues to drip in even when shut off and unplugged. I am hoping it is only a build up of hard water in the water inlet. I am waiting for the hardware store to open so I can get a bottle of 'demineralizer'. It's always something is't it?

I am sorry, Sunny. I hope it ends up an easy fix when it comes down to it.
Good morning. I am ready for the rains. But they are slowing down their arrival.
I am sorry you caught the cold, Carol. I hope it is short lived.
I hope everyone has a good day.
