Today's entertainment is going to be:

I just got the DVD colorized version of "White Christmas" in the mail today. So after a bath & hair washing I think I will mix up a cup of the caramel cappuccino mix that I got for Christmas and sit down & watch it. The time will give it time to warm up--it is cold like a ice cube.

and apparently the snow has stopped for now..Cindy (Preszler) said it would be over at noon---can't get much better than 11:56.

Whew what a busy day. And it's not over yet because I have to go down to the office and pick up my new modem. But I'm thinking a nap first.

Oh, I did not have to go far. Only to the office of the ranch next door. They collect my mail for me, sign for packages and things. I get it when it's convenient for me. And it's tucked away safely until I do.
My modem is on and I'm taking it for a test run.

That is surely a nice set up, Tina--I am happy for you.

I dread when we need a new mpdem..my SIL always took care of that....The one who lives in Virginia. Now I will have to figure it out for myself...and I am not good with that stuff.

Going to bed soon. G'nite & Sweet Dreams to you all.

Your SIL can still help you out, Carol. Just email you what to order. If you're worried about setting it up he can probably help over the phone with that. I had to get Jonni to read all of the little numbers and write them bigger for me.Then I set it up as my computer told me to do. Easy stuff if you have younger eyes.
I am heading to bed. Sweet dreams all.

Good morning.

Yay for the new modem Tina.

I hope you got a chance to watch your movie Junie.

I'm not sure what the day holds for me...my roofs need to be shoveled but GG is still on Xmas break from school and it is too cold for her to be outside today. I wish there was someone responsible in the area of age to babysit. There are two girls but their age and mentality are too far apart in my opinion.

Good morning. I know what you mean about babysitters, Sunny. I hope you find a solution soon.
I'm waiting on the weather to see if I might venture out today. Otherwise, Teddy and I will chill at home.
I hope everyone has a great day.

I will be staying home today. probably the roads (other than the one in front of our house) are clear, or clear enough. But it is COLD..so indoors here is where I will be.

I did not watch my movie--perhaps today..we shall see.

I wish everyone a good day

We are supposed to be getting snow then be below freezing, 9°, in the morning and Sunday morning so the whole state is on hold until it warms up. Hope everyone got to the grocery store. I'm just hoping and praying our power doesn't go out. We have gas logs, a kerosene heater, and a generator that will run some stuff but we won't have water and I can't stand that. I turned over the raised beds in the hopes that the bug larvae living in the warm will get murdered by the cold.

Good about turning over your raised beds, Sheri. You were thinking, good for you.

We always have water in the basement, for "in case" sometimes it is cases of individual 20 oz. bottles, sometimes it is gallons of water. we are mindful of the expiration dates and then use it before it goes out of date & then we buy more. Soap & towels & first aid kits in basement also. I guess I am also supposed to have meds in the basement as well, but I cannot afford to do that never mind the insurance companies not allowing me to buy extra...
Sheri, I am pretty sure our water works w/o power, we may not have heated water, but we will have water...why would you not have water???

I have no water without power either...mine is because I have a private well with a submersible pump. We always have drinking water on hand, at least 5 gallons at a time. Sheri, fill the washer for flushing potty's. Hopefully it will pass you by.

I just got back from making a quick produce run at the local store...frozen veggies were on sale as well, so I stocked up. I used the last of my frozen veggies from my garden last week. I need to be planting more in spring.

We had a well out at the farm. I for the life of me cannot remember how the pump worked. I am guess we too did not have water when the power was out.

Frozen veggies...I am down also...I usually buy them when they are on sale for $1.00 a bag. But apparently last sale I di dnot buy enough. All I have extra is corn and some asparagus.

I do not consider corn a veggie and DH will not eat Asparagus...so after my bag of broccoli is gone, we too are out of veggies. I do not buy canned with the exception of tomatoes.

I loved my garden out at the farm. I had potatoes for the 4 of us thru January and corn, zucchini & such for all winter. I froze my things instead of canning them. I also miss my Lodi apple tree. They made the best tasting applesauce. made a good pie as well, if you did not mind eating an applesauce pie. (they cooked up really fast.)

I have a horizontal well in the mountain behind me. I have water when there is no power, thank goodness.

Thanks for letting us know, Tina. I hope you get it all worked out sooner rather than later.

I FINALLY got to watch "White Christmas" I cried---a good type of crying. But now I am tired & need to go to sleep.

So I will wish everyone a good night and sweet dreams. rest well.

Brrr, that's cold, Sunny.
Busy morning. Cleaning my bathroom and emptying ashes up on the hill. I already half filled one bucket back up with hot ashes again. I brought in some firewood. I will have Jonni bring in more. Keeping the home fires burning.

HI !!

Home fires...wow I am envious, Tina. That is the best heat ever. I am glad for you. So glad that Jonni is there to help you.

Wow-- that IS cold, Sunny. You and yours stay safe. I am here cold with my temps (low 20's..but at least above 0*F ) and I was feeling bad for that....

I hope everyone stays safe & warm today.

Hello:

I have been cold all day. I have bene doing various chores all day. Making supper now then I will resume putting away my Christmas decorations.

I seem to work better after Rod has gone to sleep. That is a throw back from when he worked afternoons & I could work all evening in peace & quiet.

Have I said how much I hate winter ?? well in case I have not, I sure do hate it.

I dislike excessive cold or heat.
My phones went out in the rains today. Now they are back because I had an incoming call. Screwy.
I may or may not be able to come in to say it. So sweet dreams.

Good morning.

I dislike the heat more than the cold...that tells you a lot because our cold outweighs the heat where I live lol

It is still freezing here but weather like this keeps the snow at bay. We will not be venturing outside today...mind you DH just got called in to work to deal with drifting snow. It is so cold that the wind has dried out the old snow like grains of salt, it then drifts onto the roads.

I hope you all keep safe, there are storms everywhere. My cousin messaged me from Ontario...they had to shut down the 401 because of a 100 car pile up due to road conditions.

Good morning. Keep warm and safe, Sunny.
My new modem is up and running just fine. The phone lines however.... egad I have really had few problems with my phones for as long as I've had them. Especially being as my individual line runs through trees to get here. And we have gale force winds often.
I guess Verizon sold our services to Frontier and they tend to take longer servicing things. I will see how they do.
Today I have a new guy to work for me. I have high hopes. My land needs cleaning.
I hope everyone has a good day.

So glad you did, Tina. And we will know what is going on if you do not show up for a period of time. So thanks for letting us know.

My internet is off & on from time to time also. I used to call my provider every time, but I now know I have to disconnect my modem & then my router and then reconnect thenm---or the other way around..but it happens a LOT-----and sometimes my computer will just reconnect itself---

I hope your new worker is going to be a keeper.....

Tonight, after I pack my DH's lunch for tomorrow I will probably go to sleep as I have to get up early tomorrow for a Drs. appt. (just for lab work) and then I will go visit my sister & we will have coffee & nut roll together.....I get hungry just thinking about it.
Then I have grocery shopping to do, for the upcoming week.....next Thursday thru Sunday is supposed to be BAD, weather-wise. They are talking low temps & ice.

So, I will say goodnight as well. Sweet Dreams to everyone. snooz

Good morning. Here comes the rain. I love listening to it.
I was so tired last night. I just collapsed before 9. I rarely do that to my son but he seemed to be ready too. I am glad we have all that we need to wait out the week of rain. Watching the morning commute on the news. Glad I am not part of that.
I hope you all have a great day.

Good morning.

I hope the new guy works out Tina, manual workers are hard to find these days.

Enjoy your day with your sis, Junie.

It is in the minus 30's again today...I just called to cancel Grandboy's immunization this morning. It is too cold to be out with a baby today. I will not even take a chance of trying to start my car in these temps. Let alone getting stranded with a car freezing up on the highway.

I took GG skating last night....it is a 20 minute drive to the arena but she had so much fun. I might make it her 'bonus' activity if she is good for the week thumbup I have no problem using bribes to get the days going more smoothly.

Sunny I prefer cold over heat too but I don't know how much I'd like -30°. We were at 9° yesterday morning and I was frozen. For Christmas Johnny gave me a coat that weighs 3 ounces and says it's good for -8° with no activity and even colder if you're moving around. I wore it yesterday out to lunch yesterday and was nice and toasty except for below my knees. Guess I should have worn my ski pants :).

Our power did go out at 5:00 AM Saturday morning and came back on at 3:30 PM that same day. We turned on the gas logs and turned on the generator for the frig and TV downstairs. Was nice we didn't need to use it for lights. I could have actually done without the TV. Did you guys ever watch Green Acres where they had a certain number they could plug in at one time before breakers would start tripping? That's how our generator works. Johnny set up our Coleman stove on the screened in porch and I cooked eggs and made toast in my iron skillet.

As far as water, the well is wired differently than the generator. Every time the power goes out Johnny says he's going to fix the well to work from the generator then never does it. The stove is also 220 and won't work on the generator. We do have stored bottled water but it's just not the same when I need to wash my face or brush my teeth or wash out the kitchen sink. And I had begun to wonder what we'd do about Andy if the power stayed out a long time because he drinks 3 gallons or more a day.

I forgot to ask Sunny. Do you have spiders and snakes? My friend who used to live in NC but has moved to Maine says they don't have either because of the cold weather. She said the cold makes her face hurt sometimes if she doesn't wear a ski mask but it's a fair trade off from the bugs.

That's a lot of water that he drinks....I'd keep extra on hand if possible. I buy large jugs of bottled water, they store for a year at a time. It sure is a mess to deal with either way.

We do have snakes and spiders here...none of either are poisonous. We only see them from May until October as well.

WOW< Sheri--I had no idea it ever got that cold in N Carolina. I am so sorry. When my oldest DD was going to University in Nebraska, we bought her a $200.00 coat (back in 98-99 when she was a freshman) that was insulated with down & was good for the likes of Nebraska...she loved it--said is was so very warm....

Andy ???...I am drawing a blank...sorry....

it is a shame that you deal with all the cold that you do and still have snakes & spiders...but I guess half the year is better than all year.

Cold here now---but it is supposed to be in the 40's tomorrow...I hope they are right....Have I said how I hate the cold........ why lol

Sweet dreams all.

Good morning.

It has warmed up here to the minus 20's...and GG is off to school. Crazy thing is that it is supposed to warm up in the next few days and hit us with rain, probably freezing rain mostly.

Either way...that means today I have to start shoveling roofs to relieve all the weight I can off the rafters. DH shoveled the roofs of the two sheds at the barn yesterday, luckily the barn is steep and the steel roofing takes care of that building. I am really debating to do steel roofing on the house and sheds....the older we get the harder it is going to be to take care of.

Take care of yourselves in the nasty weather you are all getting as well.

Good morning. I wish the bank was open so I could get in and out. But I will figure out a way to occupy myself until it is open.
I wonder if someone young and agile could make a winter living clearing the roof of peoples houses there, Sunny?
I hope everyone has a great day.
