Peach cobblers sound wonderful, Carol.
The fire is almost out, I think. Our fire season hasn't even officially started yet. It begins in the fall with our Santa Ana winds.

Ah yes, the Santa Ana Winds. WE had relatives that lived in Huntington Beach. They talked of them all the time.

Glad that this fire is no longer a threat.

I made the pies today. I have 2 little 7-inch pie plates. I make them for us.

I spent some time looking for my Christmas record book (I use a 3-ring binder that I keep from year to year) I record what I get for various people in it.
Because:
1) it is fun
2) It helps me not buy gifts twice, or buy the same thing from year to year.
3) I keep it as a reference of sizes & likes/dislikes.
4) It helps me keep things on an even keep gift wise.

Good news is I found it !! BUT I think I will go to sleep now instead of beginning to fix up this years pages.
I can begin that tomorrow.

Sweet Dreams wavy

Sweet dreams, Carol. Yes, the Santa Ana winds blow hard from the north. Up to 100 mph+, often enough. It makes living here interesting. It is not a matter of holding on to your hat so much as having a good grip on your littles.

I decided to begin my day in a good way.

I made Rod some Grands Cinnamon Rolls for Breakfast .

He thought to tell me he would take me to a Cinnabon store sometime for their Cinnamon rolls....

I am still drinking coffee here......

It is supposed to be hot/humid here again today...

Cinnamon rolls sound good, Carol. But I think I will stick to fresh fruit. We're coming to the end of season and I will dream about biting into a fresh peach or plum all winter and spring. I have dreams of apricots and nectarines to goad on the cravings.

I love a fresh peach or watermelon..but DH loves his sweets. I was trying to be nice to him this weekend.

I just finished weeding the larger of 2 flower beds/mulched area that is in the back but up against the house. A little at a time will get the job done.

Oh, watermelon. I forgot about melons.
I gathered up 4 trashbags full of stuff for the dumpster.. It is good to have out of my house. One box full of foodstuffs to donate to the ones in need. And a mess of outgrown clothing to donate as well. More clearing to go where it is needful. It feels good.

Ah fall cleaning already???

I look in my closets & think I need to do that....but then I do not...

I am cleaning house today...bits if it anyway. That will be my chore next week as the week after I have relatives coming in town for a few days.
My DH's brother & SIL use my house as a B & B...but it is all good. My DH gets to visit with them this way.

Hi all.

We had no power again...a helicopter crash took out power lines. Pilot and one passenger have died, another critical. We are hooked up to another grid for now but it is not working well.

I am thinking grandboy has roseola...we are waiting for the doc to come in.

Back soon.

Sunny, I guess if he has to have Roseola it is better to be now while he is small, poor little guy.
Have YOU ever had it ???

Good Afternoon.
Well, summer is officially over, sad to say. egad
I for one have no idea how that happened.

Ceramics went well. I finished a jack-O-lantern on a straw stand.
Now to change over the decorations on my mantle...

What I was referring to was "summer vacations" were over and most children were back to school and as it used to be, one was NOT supposed to wear white after Labor Day.

BTW: I wore my white sandals today.

Personally, Fall is my favorite time of year...no ice or snow yet, but also it is not nearly as hot as summer.

Sweet Dreams, Tina. I hope you do manage to go out tomorrow.

I may or may not go out---My cousin wants company when she goes to get her hair cut....it would be good to visit with her.
My Christmas book is done---and now I am going to balance my checking book & then I may head to bed.

I wish everyone a good night ! shewinks

Good Morning---My body tried to pull an all nighter last night---but I finally got to sleep at 2:30. Up at 8:30 I see a nap in my afternoon.

I was going to go out with my cousin but she is under the weather, so I will clean today. But first, I am going to drink coffee.

I think I am going to put chicken in the slow cooker today. That sounds easy to me.

I hope you get your errands done today, Tina.

I got out and took care of my business today. I only had a few things on my list. But left $50 lighter. Actually, that's not bad. I just have to make sure I have what I need in the house before the concert up the road this weekend. Then they have a weekend off and a three day thing the 23 through the 24th. That has more camping. An Ozzfest meet Knotfest thing.

Glad you got the errands done--and I agree, I too would be happy with having spent only $50.00.

Gracious, that concert venue is sure busy....you can hear it right ???

I am trying to make myself do some housework. I had other plans for today that fell thru & I am having trouble switching gears...

I promised Rod supper would be done early & be such that he could eat when he felt like it. All but the potatoes are cooked & at the ready.

I wonder if there is anything worth watching on TV tonight..I will have to check it out & see.

Golly I miss the old-type of TV Guide....One could look up what is on & actually find out what you wanted to know.

I miss the old type TV guide too. I can't figure out what's on all these channels we have by looking at Time Warner's guide. For instance the PBS channel is different for Ginger, mother, my friend who lives about 7 miles from me because she has DISH, so non of us can ever watch the same program at the same time and then talk about it. My mothers PBS is a week ahead of me. It's crazy.

Sherri--yes I know what you mean. There are 3 towns in this area..My mom lives in one, my sister in a second & me in a third. We all 3 have the same phone/internet/television provider. BUT we none of us have the same shows on the same stations. It is just crazy.

I get so tired watching the Guide channel to see what is on--and then you can only see a few hours at one time--so there is no planning your evening.

I need to get to sleep now--it is already later than I had planned. Sweet Dreams to you all. snooz

Good morning. Our power issue is straightened out, thankfully.

GG's change of address had not gone through with the school board so the past few days I had to drive her to and from...I demanded it to be fixed as of yesterday end of day...and it was. So today is the first full day for me to be home in my own house with no errands in a month. I feel so tired lately.

We are supposed to get heavy rains today and tonight. I will not even go outside today lol

Good morning. I am glad your electricity is fixed and you can stay in out of the rain, Sunny. I hope things continue and you can rest.
I am up under protest. I really want to go back to bed for a do-over. My body wouldn't sleep through the night and I woke twice before daylight came.
I hope everyone has a great day.

Good Morning !

I too am tired all.the.time. It is bad on me b/c I did the majority of my work in the evening after Rod has gone to sleep. Now, I can barely get supper done & the kitchen cleaned up---never mind get any work done outside or anything extra inside.......

It rained this AM....Now that it has stopped, I need to run errands out today....

I hope you both get to rest at one point today.

It is so humid here...I am just as warm out of the shower as before I just got in.

On a better note, I am looking forward to the Fall Fair tomorrow evening. It is a annual event...I love looking at all the crafts and such.

I love a craft fair as well.
I took a nap and I still can't shake it. I need to cook something for dinner soon.

See, if we all lived close to one another---we could do things like help each other with our gardens & then do fun things together like go to Craft fairs..
Sometimes, life is not fair.

Rod came home today & said he thinks he is ready to start eating regular foods---this may go well, it may not....I will make Spaghetti & salad tomorrow night & we will see if he can handle the raw veggies & the tomato sauce.

I'd do all of your housework and gardening...in exchange that you run all my errands. lol

The rain is set to stop..we got over 3 inches in less than 24 hours. My lawn looks better now than it did all summer....so lush and green.

Housework and such today..than off to pick up GG for the weekend and visit the Fair at 6pm.

I don't buy much at the Fair but I like looking, it also gives me ideas for things to make and do. thumbup I like how the 'feel' of the place really sets me in the mood for Fall. I am excited just like a child today lol

I have a pork stew cooking...it smells so good. Just finished up some more blueberry muffins as well.

Yes enjoy the fair tonight, Sunny.I like them b/c they put me in the mood for Christmas...

It is raining again here...good news is I have my pots all sitting so they will get to take advantage of the rain...they are "self watering" so to speak.

I would gladly run your errands, Sunny..... winky

I need to pay bills today--for both me and my MIL. Then this afternoon, I will go pick up a few things for Rod's "normal" supper. If he has problems, at least he will be home & not at work.

Junie how did the meal go?

I like craft fairs too. Mostly like to look. I have more than enough "stuff". I'm trying not to buy unless I get rid of too.

The meal. He ate 1 helping of everything, and 3 crescent rolls...and 2 cup cakes. He did not complain, but he did say he "really" wanted a Pizza (we used to have them on Sunday night for supper before) and since we have not had them since June 23rd I told him IF he still feels ok tomorrow from this food we had tonight, we would have pizza again for Sunday night supper. That is ever so much easier on me, so I hope he can tolerate the spaghetti sauce.

I should do that too when referring to carft fairs, but I usually only buy gifts at them, so not new "stuff" for Carol coming into the house that way.

Good afternoon.

We had fun at the fair...I bought an unfinished bread box. I always wanted one so I gave in and spent the $25 I took with me on it. She was asking $30 but I told her that $25 was all I had, she accepted thankfully. So this morning I stained it and sanded it to be rustic looking...varnishing awaits this evening.

They did not have much in the way of Christmas items...more preserves and knitting and such. And a lot of woodworking.

I am waiting for DH to get home with a loaned combine...we have oats to harvest today.

OH, a bread box..I have always wanted one, how great for you!!!--I "almost" had one put in when we put new cabinets in at the farm, but decided against it.
I now use a Tupperware container the size of a homemade loaf of bread.

Tina, the oats are for feed..but the combine has been delayed until Monday, the farmer has to repair something on it.

Junie, you should get your husband to make you one...I seen the beautiful chests he made for your daughters. I have two coats of stain finished....and one coat of varnish applied.

I just cut up a large bowl of green tomatoes and onions...I'll be making 'chow chow preserves' in the morning.

Rod is not a big one on working with wood..that makes the chests all the more special, I am sure.

I am sure you will be happy this winter of the chow-chow--but if it were me I would be frying the sliced green tomatoes. I LOVE them breaded & fried.

Do you know you can 'can' them for fried green tomatoes later, Carol?

Good morning.

The combine will be ready for Tuesday we were told..the horses will be happy grin

I don't like fried green tomatoes...I guess it is a acquired taste. Green tomatoes were always used here for 'chow chow'...it was a way of keeping the tomatoes when frost hit. Resourcefulness at it's best from 100 years ago. I guess traditions will continue.

I feel blessed to have the abundance of produce to bottle from my garden this year.

Good morning.
I am glad you can put up lots of food this year also, Sunny. I'm thinking it's going to be a rough winter. I am not fond of fried tomatoes either. The chow chow seems like a good alternative.
The recipe is simple, Carol.
1.Slice green tomatoes into pint jars.
2. Add 1/2 teaspoon salt to each jar.
3. Cover with boiling water.
4. Put lids on and put in water bath canner.
5. Bring to boil and boil for 5 minutes.
6. Remove from canner, tighten caps and cool on counter top.
Can also use quart jars, adding 1 teaspoon salt.
I just googled "canning green tomatoes to fry" I don't know how much this messes with the flavor or texture.

Thanks Tina...the almanac is calling for a bad Winter for us, the older I get...the more I heed the warning.

This week I have to make my pickled beets to add to the collection as well.

There is more worrying me than just the weather. The economy for one. I really wish I could can a bunch of stuff myself. But I must rely on purchasing and stockpiling like a squirrel.

I have also heard it is to be a bad winter. I do not garden enough to put up anything.. I used to freeze a lot when the kids were home. I had a nice-sized garden & I had home-grown potatoes that lasted us well into January.
I froze containers of tomatoes for cooking in 15 oz. increments, for ease of using in recipes. I would put up blanched sweet corn as well, and numerous cups sliced apples & whole blackberries to name a few items. But I guess I will begin buying up canned goods & putting them in the basement to use over winter. Paper items will l be bought up as well.

I guess I too will become a "squirrel". shewinks

Thanks Tina, and thanks for the idea. I will try to watch the dates on things...I have a table--I guess I could put the new towards the back so that the old was first,
I really need to be buying paper products as well--those will not go bad at least....

balanced some books tonight--off to the drs for a blood test & then to run some errands--& hopefully to get some new rugs for my livingroom. (can't affored a new carpet, so new rugs it will be.

Yes, I so buy a lot more canned goods than we eat. As they get older, I donate them before their dates come due. I have a bunch of paper products as well. I fear running out.
I have some business to take care of tomorrow so I'll be running errands as well. Right now I'm going to say good night. Sweet dreams. .

Good morning from me as well...we've lost power three times since last night with these heavy winds.

I have a doc appt to go to as well...and errands for my husband.

We don't eat much canned food here...mostly can tomatoes, tomatoe soup and can milk.

You know, Tina...sometimes I am sure I post, even remember posting, and it is just NOT here..I guess we are just so comfortable with coming that we think we do when sometimes we do not??? why

Well I have a story for you all..
I went to the DR, got my blood work done & as I was leaving to go wait for my flu shot (one stop shopping?)
I passed a Drs. scale---so I jump on!! ...... (sit down for this) I was 20# lighter than I was 4 months ago !!....I do not think I look 20 pounds lighter-----but that is what the scale said bop
I asked the receptionist if the scale was working accurately, & she said YES!!!! Golly--I am afraid to eat anything for the next week, ---(when I go into see the Dr. for a check up & and get weighed for real.) so I do not gain any back !! wish me luck !

Color me happy...

well,--goodnight or good morning--depending on how you look at things...

I guess I am not going to ceramics tomorrow....
I spent all of my time tonight trying to find the $47.47 that my banks says I have extra in my account----
did all the math again & nope I still I have 47.47 less than they do..
cleaning & cleaning now--so I think I will stop & just go to sleep...

sweet dreams to you all !!!

Good morning. I hate it when things don't balance, Carol. But at least it is in your favor.
We are having an unusual cool dip today. But it is supposed to warm up drastically by the weekend. So I'll just enjoy the reprieve for now.
I hope everyone has a great day.

I got my 8 hours in last night, and currently there are 2 big pumpkin pies in the oven & 2 small single-serve ones for just Rod & I for supper tonight as well.

I just re-read my post from past night..boy I sure must have been tired.

I know I usually mis-type Been (bene) & from (form) and I have put an h & i in the word you so many times my computer thinks that is the spelling I am going for...LOL

but that one was bad---I changed it for your guys viewing pleasure..LOL

My company got a later start than they had planned & will be arriving much later than they thought, and so I DO get to go out to eat lunch with my friends today anyway, as I have to go do some banking----so at least there is that. shewinks

it is mild here in temps also, Tina. I am grateful for that as well.

Good afternoon.

I had to take Grand boy to an appt today...they are checking his legs, he is 14 months old and refuses to walk. We caught him making a few steps last week but he is refusing with a passion to even try. He was born with a turned in ankle(hyperflexed muscle)...and they assured us it wouldn't affect anything(I took him to two specialists since he was born), I think they are wrong.

Enjoy the cooler weather Tina.

Junie, I'll be over for some pie grin

Tina, you are too too kind---(about the typos)

Sunny. I ended up putting "straight last" shoes on both my girls..they were shoes that were neither left or right--they just had to sleep in them. They came with a bar that attached to each shoe in the sole area that kept their legs in a proper location so the bones in the legs would grow correctly. Their cases were not so severe so I di dnot have to use the bar just the shoes, but the shoes worked.

THEN Emily did not walk until she was 15 months, & only reason she walked then was that she was in my sister's 27 ft. long living room & she felt safe.---but her issue was her eyes....

home from lunch..and soon it wil be supper time.

Sunny, I will put on the coffee to go with the pie--(PS there is whipped cream also)

Tina, you come on by too.

I didn't do much of anything today. I hope to do better tomorrow. I'm going to say good night. Sweet dreams all.

Good morning.

Thank you for the kind words...we cannot get special boots here unless they are prescribed...and that is what I am trying to accomplish at the moment. His feet are too thick to fit in normal walking boots. We have 2 more appointments within two weeks to get the final decision.

I am cooking beets at the moment...then I will peel, cut and make the pickling brine. Another Fall chore will be completed in a few hours thumbup I am so pleased with the amount of preserves this year.

Good morning.
Good luck on getting his feet squared away, Sunny. And I'm glad you are getting so much put away.
I don't know my exact plans for today yet. But I think I will go out and shop for our needs because they have an event up the road tomorrow and through the weekend. And I don't want to fight the traffic. So going out today is my best choice.
I hope everyone has a great day.

You sure have a lot of traffic to deal with Tina.

Beets are bottled and cooling...the sound of popping seals are a splendid thing. grin

The are calling for our first Fall frost tonight..we have been so lucky to have been spared thus far.

Hurry for the beets. I love pickled beets. As it is just me that will eat them I make my own refrigerator version one jar at a time. To have them sitting on the shelf at the ready is a wonderful thing I am sure. Your first frost--oh my---so very sorry, but I guess it had to happen, huh???

Company has just left for the day. I offered them lunch if they wanted, but I guess they will be gone all day. The good news is it is Lee's birthday today so Rod is going to take him out to eat to celebrate. Carol does not have to cook.........YAY !!!!

Yay for dinner out, Carol. Yay for popping lids, Sunny. Good things are happening for everyone.
The traffic is bad on weekends in September the last few years. There are other events during the year but they are easier to navigate.
I have yet to go out.

Good morning.

Junie, I cook my ribs in the oven...leaving them brown as well...then I make two kinds of sauces and transfer the ribs to two dishes and bake another hour. They were delicious.

We woke this morning to broken fencing...another bear. We are going to have to slowly turn our back fencing into permanent rails. Black bears and cows do not mix.

I need to cut my lawn and such today...it will only need cut a couple of times before Winter.

I'm glad I got them done early. They set up the tent for the rodeo restaurant. They've set over 200 tables for the (almost) formal outside BBQ tonight. Catering trucks in and out. I'm glad I'm not needing to go out the next few days.
The dinner tonight is for bigwigs and fund raising and things. The white cloth tablecloths come off and the regular people eat BBQ for the next 3 days.
I do hear the rodeo more than the concerts. It is closer to me. But it's more pleasant sound for me. I just wish it weren't so crowded. They oversell tickets and don't have near enough seating and all for the crush of people.

It is really just every weekend in September this year. Other events include various fishing tournaments and some graduation ceremonies in May and June. They don't have the crowds of the concerts or the rodeo. I can handle them all.
I am going to bed now. Sweet dreams all.

Rodeo and BBQ...that's my kind of party.

Just had to bring GG to school...she has the sniffles and stated she can't go to school sick. She apparently changed her mood when I landed to 'take her to the doctor'. Too sick for school...too sick to come to Grammie's for the weekend. thumbup

I have to go back up later to bring DD my push lawn mower...it shall be interesting to see how she fairs out with it lol

Sunny, I am laughing about your G girl...she is already trying to work all of you, huh?? Well, did the ploy work---did she end up going to school after all ?
I wish your DD the best in cutting grass....it occurred to me that she may well think you will be frustrated with her not knowing how to cut & just take the mower over & cut it for her???

Tina, I guess one month a year is not so bad I am glad to hear that.

My company has left about an hour ago. Now I have bedding to wash & such...which is ok as it is raining outside...a LOT. So far we have gotten 2+ inches since 7 am this morning.
So inside chores are a good choice.

GG went to school...and came home running a fever of 101*. She is resting at the moment. She fakes so often that we miss the days when she really is sick..

I started to cut DD's grass then a neighbor stopped by with his sit down mower and cut a lot of it for us(he said he knew the baby's dad before he died)...it was almost a foot tall and all woody weeds. He seen me fighting with the clogged mower ever minute. I still made DD cut some, she was not impressed with it though lol It took me a bit to do the weed wacking but we are done. It looks so much better.

Here I sit for a few.

I hope your little short person feel better soon, Sunny. I feel sorry for all of you in that situation.
Hopefully she realized today that perhaps always telling the truth is best for her.

A rider mower. Rod has one, and it is wonderful, it is a used John Deere & so does a good job. He had a different brand back at the farm & it was a horrible mess. plus then the deck was not removable and so to clean it was near impossible.
If anyone remembers, we had 5 acres at the farm---3 were in pasture, so did not need cut every week, but the 2 acres needed cut at least one time a week & so was quite the job...he cut the grass & I raked it.
I am so very happy that the neighbor helped you with your DD's grass. Perhaps he will do so some in the future as well. why prayers

My bed clothes are clean & dry but I still need to put both beds back together....

Good morning.

GG is sick ALL the time....it's just like her system holds on to everything. I am going to have to give in and take her to see a specialist as well. We know she has ADHD but I fought all attempts to have her 'diagnosed' but now she is developing 'tics'. I am scared.

I am sorry, Sunny. Best of luck for finding the best doctor (magician) for her.

I too wish you the best in finding your GG a good Dr., so as to help her. It is extra sad when little ones are not well.

I got sleep but I would have liked more, just on general principals. But, I woke with a sinus headache. the best course for me in that situation is to get up so my head will drain. Headache is now gone. I think I may well go visit my Sister today. I have not seen her in quite a while.

I wish everyone a great day as well.

I am so afraid it will get worse. Very afraid. And I'm so glad your garden produced this year.
I have potatoes on to boil. I am not sure what is going to go with them, but it's a beginning.

Yes the price of groceries scare me as well. And then I just read where Social security is not going to go up, or if it does it will not go up much--then the cost of Medicare will end up going way up. Rod will go on Medicare & such next year. As he is still working I think his time period for signing up will change. At least I will be 65 before he retires...Hopefully that will help us.

If prices keep going up Rod may well have to Learn to LIKE beans, as that may well be one of the few sources of protein that we can afford. Luckily I love beans. This economy is crazy.

Perhaps we may well add some soil to a place or 2 in the back yard & plant potatoes & such like I used to do.

Beans have even gone up. About a dollar per pound over the last 5 years, give or take. Canned beans have more than doubled in the last 10 years. Cheap proteins like milk, cheese and eggs are never referred to as cheap proteins any more. It's scary out there.

Good plan. Your wallet will enjoy it as well as your stomach.

Very true, Tina....Now I have a year to talk Rod into spending the money on soil for our back yard. it is so low, I think potatoes would rot if we planted them out back.

Supper, a packaged chicken alfredo boxed dish, is in the oven. I hope it is good--it was sure easy and not that costly.

I guess I will open a new CH..see you all over in the new one......CH 2415
