See, if we all lived close to one another---we could do things like help each other with our gardens & then do fun things together like go to Craft fairs..
Sometimes, life is not fair.

Rod came home today & said he thinks he is ready to start eating regular foods---this may go well, it may not....I will make Spaghetti & salad tomorrow night & we will see if he can handle the raw veggies & the tomato sauce.

I'd do all of your housework and gardening...in exchange that you run all my errands. lol

The rain is set to stop..we got over 3 inches in less than 24 hours. My lawn looks better now than it did all summer....so lush and green.

Housework and such today..than off to pick up GG for the weekend and visit the Fair at 6pm.

I don't buy much at the Fair but I like looking, it also gives me ideas for things to make and do. thumbup I like how the 'feel' of the place really sets me in the mood for Fall. I am excited just like a child today lol

I have a pork stew cooking...it smells so good. Just finished up some more blueberry muffins as well.

Yes enjoy the fair tonight, Sunny.I like them b/c they put me in the mood for Christmas...

It is raining again here...good news is I have my pots all sitting so they will get to take advantage of the rain...they are "self watering" so to speak.

I would gladly run your errands, Sunny..... winky

I need to pay bills today--for both me and my MIL. Then this afternoon, I will go pick up a few things for Rod's "normal" supper. If he has problems, at least he will be home & not at work.

Junie how did the meal go?

I like craft fairs too. Mostly like to look. I have more than enough "stuff". I'm trying not to buy unless I get rid of too.

The meal. He ate 1 helping of everything, and 3 crescent rolls...and 2 cup cakes. He did not complain, but he did say he "really" wanted a Pizza (we used to have them on Sunday night for supper before) and since we have not had them since June 23rd I told him IF he still feels ok tomorrow from this food we had tonight, we would have pizza again for Sunday night supper. That is ever so much easier on me, so I hope he can tolerate the spaghetti sauce.

I should do that too when referring to carft fairs, but I usually only buy gifts at them, so not new "stuff" for Carol coming into the house that way.

Good afternoon.

We had fun at the fair...I bought an unfinished bread box. I always wanted one so I gave in and spent the $25 I took with me on it. She was asking $30 but I told her that $25 was all I had, she accepted thankfully. So this morning I stained it and sanded it to be rustic looking...varnishing awaits this evening.

They did not have much in the way of Christmas items...more preserves and knitting and such. And a lot of woodworking.

I am waiting for DH to get home with a loaned combine...we have oats to harvest today.

OH, a bread box..I have always wanted one, how great for you!!!--I "almost" had one put in when we put new cabinets in at the farm, but decided against it.
I now use a Tupperware container the size of a homemade loaf of bread.

Tina, the oats are for feed..but the combine has been delayed until Monday, the farmer has to repair something on it.

Junie, you should get your husband to make you one...I seen the beautiful chests he made for your daughters. I have two coats of stain finished....and one coat of varnish applied.

I just cut up a large bowl of green tomatoes and onions...I'll be making 'chow chow preserves' in the morning.

Rod is not a big one on working with wood..that makes the chests all the more special, I am sure.

I am sure you will be happy this winter of the chow-chow--but if it were me I would be frying the sliced green tomatoes. I LOVE them breaded & fried.

Do you know you can 'can' them for fried green tomatoes later, Carol?

Good morning.

The combine will be ready for Tuesday we were told..the horses will be happy grin

I don't like fried green tomatoes...I guess it is a acquired taste. Green tomatoes were always used here for 'chow chow'...it was a way of keeping the tomatoes when frost hit. Resourcefulness at it's best from 100 years ago. I guess traditions will continue.

I feel blessed to have the abundance of produce to bottle from my garden this year.

Good morning.
I am glad you can put up lots of food this year also, Sunny. I'm thinking it's going to be a rough winter. I am not fond of fried tomatoes either. The chow chow seems like a good alternative.
The recipe is simple, Carol.
1.Slice green tomatoes into pint jars.
2. Add 1/2 teaspoon salt to each jar.
3. Cover with boiling water.
4. Put lids on and put in water bath canner.
5. Bring to boil and boil for 5 minutes.
6. Remove from canner, tighten caps and cool on counter top.
Can also use quart jars, adding 1 teaspoon salt.
I just googled "canning green tomatoes to fry" I don't know how much this messes with the flavor or texture.

Thanks Tina...the almanac is calling for a bad Winter for us, the older I get...the more I heed the warning.

This week I have to make my pickled beets to add to the collection as well.

There is more worrying me than just the weather. The economy for one. I really wish I could can a bunch of stuff myself. But I must rely on purchasing and stockpiling like a squirrel.

I have also heard it is to be a bad winter. I do not garden enough to put up anything.. I used to freeze a lot when the kids were home. I had a nice-sized garden & I had home-grown potatoes that lasted us well into January.
I froze containers of tomatoes for cooking in 15 oz. increments, for ease of using in recipes. I would put up blanched sweet corn as well, and numerous cups sliced apples & whole blackberries to name a few items. But I guess I will begin buying up canned goods & putting them in the basement to use over winter. Paper items will l be bought up as well.

I guess I too will become a "squirrel". shewinks

Thanks Tina, and thanks for the idea. I will try to watch the dates on things...I have a table--I guess I could put the new towards the back so that the old was first,
I really need to be buying paper products as well--those will not go bad at least....

balanced some books tonight--off to the drs for a blood test & then to run some errands--& hopefully to get some new rugs for my livingroom. (can't affored a new carpet, so new rugs it will be.

Yes, I so buy a lot more canned goods than we eat. As they get older, I donate them before their dates come due. I have a bunch of paper products as well. I fear running out.
I have some business to take care of tomorrow so I'll be running errands as well. Right now I'm going to say good night. Sweet dreams. .

Good morning from me as well...we've lost power three times since last night with these heavy winds.

I have a doc appt to go to as well...and errands for my husband.

We don't eat much canned food here...mostly can tomatoes, tomatoe soup and can milk.

You know, Tina...sometimes I am sure I post, even remember posting, and it is just NOT here..I guess we are just so comfortable with coming that we think we do when sometimes we do not??? why

Well I have a story for you all..
I went to the DR, got my blood work done & as I was leaving to go wait for my flu shot (one stop shopping?)
I passed a Drs. scale---so I jump on!! ...... (sit down for this) I was 20# lighter than I was 4 months ago !!....I do not think I look 20 pounds lighter-----but that is what the scale said bop
I asked the receptionist if the scale was working accurately, & she said YES!!!! Golly--I am afraid to eat anything for the next week, ---(when I go into see the Dr. for a check up & and get weighed for real.) so I do not gain any back !! wish me luck !

Color me happy...

well,--goodnight or good morning--depending on how you look at things...

I guess I am not going to ceramics tomorrow....
I spent all of my time tonight trying to find the $47.47 that my banks says I have extra in my account----
did all the math again & nope I still I have 47.47 less than they do..
cleaning & cleaning now--so I think I will stop & just go to sleep...

sweet dreams to you all !!!

Good morning. I hate it when things don't balance, Carol. But at least it is in your favor.
We are having an unusual cool dip today. But it is supposed to warm up drastically by the weekend. So I'll just enjoy the reprieve for now.
I hope everyone has a great day.

I got my 8 hours in last night, and currently there are 2 big pumpkin pies in the oven & 2 small single-serve ones for just Rod & I for supper tonight as well.

I just re-read my post from past night..boy I sure must have been tired.

I know I usually mis-type Been (bene) & from (form) and I have put an h & i in the word you so many times my computer thinks that is the spelling I am going for...LOL

but that one was bad---I changed it for your guys viewing pleasure..LOL

My company got a later start than they had planned & will be arriving much later than they thought, and so I DO get to go out to eat lunch with my friends today anyway, as I have to go do some banking----so at least there is that. shewinks

it is mild here in temps also, Tina. I am grateful for that as well.

Good afternoon.

I had to take Grand boy to an appt today...they are checking his legs, he is 14 months old and refuses to walk. We caught him making a few steps last week but he is refusing with a passion to even try. He was born with a turned in ankle(hyperflexed muscle)...and they assured us it wouldn't affect anything(I took him to two specialists since he was born), I think they are wrong.

Enjoy the cooler weather Tina.

Junie, I'll be over for some pie grin

Tina, you are too too kind---(about the typos)

Sunny. I ended up putting "straight last" shoes on both my girls..they were shoes that were neither left or right--they just had to sleep in them. They came with a bar that attached to each shoe in the sole area that kept their legs in a proper location so the bones in the legs would grow correctly. Their cases were not so severe so I di dnot have to use the bar just the shoes, but the shoes worked.

THEN Emily did not walk until she was 15 months, & only reason she walked then was that she was in my sister's 27 ft. long living room & she felt safe.---but her issue was her eyes....

home from lunch..and soon it wil be supper time.

Sunny, I will put on the coffee to go with the pie--(PS there is whipped cream also)

Tina, you come on by too.

Teddy didn't walk until he was 17 months old. Your grandson will get there.
I didn't do much of anything today. I hope to do better tomorrow. I'm going to say good night. Sweet dreams all.
