My company has been creating the forum software that we use here at AGF "officially" since January 2015, and the newest version is at the beta testing phase, whereby it's stable enough to run, but needs crash testing with a lot of data.

At some point this week in the late hours of the evening (well, normal working hours for me since I'm in the Pacific Timezone, so late for just about everyone else) I'll be upgrading our forums here to that latest build so that I can test the coding in place before we make a final build. I already have it running on most of my other sites, so it's just further testing and the ability to upgrade the styles while i have free time (versus when it's released to the public and I'm swamped with upgrades).

There aren't too many "front end" (what the public sees) visible updates, a lot of them are simply on the "back end" (how the software builds the front end), unless you're using a tablet or phone to access the forums, in that case you'll notice that the software is optimized for the display.

One Big Change that you'll have to do is to change your timezone in your preferences ("My Stuff" -> Preferences); we're no longer doing an offset from the server time as a number, from now on it'll just be based off of your timezone (your account basically tells the server where you are located and it does the rest on its own).

Once everything is updated I can push out small updates when we make them available, which won't be such a large disruption like a full upgrade would be...

Well, that was fast; all done now. Let me know if you find any problems; keep in mind that this is an extremely early alpha build and there are some lingering bugs with dates due to how we're changing their display (to selecting your timezone versus setting an offset from the server time). For times you will notice that the "yesterday/today" indicator will state "yesterday" when the servers time says it's a new day versus when your time offset says it (server time is set to GMT+0 (England)).

When I come to this site, before I log in, the icon on the left of each topic is a big, red rose. Once I log in, that icon changes to a newspaper. Does this happen for everyone? I like the roses better than the newspapers.

The roses are only on the "A Gardeners Forum" style (from what I recall); you can change what style you use in //www.agardenersforum.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/ubb/editdisplay.html (selecting either "Default" or "A Gardeners Forum").
