There are both pine cones and purple pods all next to each other. Looks like 2 flat needles per fascicle although I might have to check that it's always 2. I had never seen these pods on a pine/evergreen although I've seen similar pods on black locusts.

The look like Honey Locust pods but I can't really see any Honey Locust trees there. Strange. Hybrid? Perhaps I just cannot tell that there is a locust tree there?

That has me stumped. When you open the pod, are the seeds round or more slender shaped?

The seeds are ovalate, 1/2" long x 1/4" wide, so not round, but slender. It's a flattened
in one dimension, but smooth, beanlike oval in the plane of the oval.

The only thing I can think of with pods such as that are Honey locust or Carob...but those needle like leaves really confuse me.

I went back to the grove of trees - I was just fooled by the branches of the pines rubbing up against the locust trees. There are about 3 or 4 locust trees interspersed amongst the pines. I forgot to make sure that it was 2 needles per fascicle but I'm guessing Scots Pine as the pine tree since I know there is one around the corner but I need to use that website and make sure that the needles can be flatter and still be Scotch pine. So they are almost surely Honey Locust pods.
