I am just wondering how everyone else fared out. This was the worst year ever for me.

I had powdery mildew in my pumpkins and cukes, my corn did not pollinate, my beets did not grow and the potatoes fared out no better. It's the first of September and my mini tomatoes are only starting to ripen. We were hit with frost in July so that did the most damage.

I am optimistic though...there is always next year. 2014 was the best year ever for gardening. Hoping you all did better.

all I had was 2 tomato plants--one heirloom & then some other one. I got 1 tomato. a squirrel got 2 or 3 and the rest just sit & do nothing--- so either too much rain or something---I guess it was a good year for me to not be able to garden. why

This was the worst year for me maybe in forever. The green beans never got more than a few inches tall and so far I haven't gotten even one cucumber. The squash and tomatoes did pretty well but then the tomatoes got worms so I pulled them all up. It was just too hot and too dry for too long. I planted potatoes but haven't even checked on them.

This year was the first year ever that they brought in a new variety of potatoes called Viking...so of course I had to try them. I got about two potatoes from each plant. Never again.

it might have been the year--if you can, perhaps try just one or 2 hills next year of the Viking. I am thinking IF they put them out, they must be compatible to your area..well, in a normal year... why

The biggest problem in my garden were the weeds. From mid June till mid July my dad was in the hospital, nothing was accomplished in the gardens so they got over run and we couldn`t manage to get them under control again. We eventually got them off the strawberries and are starting to get a second flush from them, as they are ever bearing. Though its chilly enough we probably won`t get many We lost the peas beets beans and carrots to the weeds.

However the Tomatoes were big enough to survive the weeds and they`ve been great this year. Especially the cherry tomatoes, they`ve pretty much gone rampant. They keep reseeding them selves.

As for potatoes we`ve just started digging and so far we`re been getting 5-8 good size ones per plant as well as a few babies.

Sounds like all in all your garden did well, Shani. Good for you!!

I miss my potatoes. When we moved, my garden was severely cut down in size. Next year it will be even smaller. I think just herbs, asparagus and tomatoes.

I was thinking the other day that I never did dig up the potatoes. Oh well. it didn't rain an ounce for months on end and now it rains almost every day all day long so IF, and that's a big IF, the potatoes did make they've probably rotted by now. Oh well. I'll try again next year.

Our tomatoes fizzled out quickly. We ended them in early August. Normally we would still be having them fresh. We have no clue what happened to end their Growth.

Grannie did you have some strange, weird weather like the rest of us. It must have been a bad year everywhere.

Yes, good question. Was it a lot cooler/warmer than usual ?? Was it very dry or very wet. Do not get discouraged by one year. Every year is a new beginning.

I haven't even thought about next years garden. I had a hard time getting in the garden mood this year, never even dug up potatoes, so I may not get into the mood at ALL next year.

Did you leave your potatoes in the ground Sheri?

I have my next years garden planned already...even though this was the worst year ever. Last year was one of the best so I can only hope for a repeat of 2014. thumbup

They just might seed themselves and grow again next year if not disturbed.

We'll end up turning over the ground but a few might spring back up. :)
