I bought 3 fruit trees at Tractor Supply a week or so ago. A Honey Crisp Apple, a peach and a pear. I don't remember the exact types of the last two. Anyway, I got to thinking, and remembered hearing something about fruit trees needing to be cross pollinated or something to bear fruit.

Did I just waste my money? :(

It has been a few years since we had fruit trees, but as I recall, some trees need pollinators & some do not--then also a bee can travel a long ways.
Were there tags with your fruit trees??? I would like to think that somewhere on the tag it would say. .

I will not be around for the rest of the weekend. I will check back here on MOnday to see if you still need some advice. If you do, I will see what I can find out for you.

Thanks love!! I will definitely check the tags. They do have them. I didn't look at them close enough.. my bad. :/

I'm hoping to get them in the ground tomorrow. We are supposed to get rain the next five days. Figured now would be as good a time as any. :)

Also if neighbor's have fruit trees the pollination tends to work that way. Some tree's just bear less fruit without an added pollinator. Other's are self pollinating.

I have a German plum tree, the only other plum trees are a half mile away(neighbor)...yet my tree produces profusely. thumbup

What are the exact names on your fruit trees?

Your apple tree will be pollinated by the other old trees around your property thumbup

Good news, good news. They all say self pollinating. I've known for a while, but I'm just now getting around to posting. Been busy. :)

That is great to hear (that your trees are self-pollinators)
Good for you !!

We had a few back when we lived on a 5 acre "farmette". We had some that were self-pollinating & some that needed pollinators.
The thing is the care they need. I was lucky in that my husband took care of ours. The place that you got your trees from should offer care books for each variety of tree.

I bought the trees from Tractor Supply. I don't know about any care books. Maybe I've bitten off more than I can chew... what kind of care?

I will look for my books & if I find them I will send them to you. We will not be planning any more fruit trees to my notion. Not real bad care really. As I remember some basic spraying & some pruning.

IF I find the books, I will message you & you can give me your address.

Thanks Dodge, I'll probably do that. :)

Thank you Carol, that's very kind of you to offer. Do you think they need it now, or not till they get a bit bigger?

oh no not now.....later...well. I would wait. In the book we got it showed what the tree most likely looked like & how One should prune it before planting...but we had many we did not do a thing to--they will be fine for first.
However, Dodge is right...you can look it up online.
BUT if I have the books, (just thin little books) I know we will not be using them anymore so I am ore than happy to share.

Ok, well, we didn't do anything to ours either. I'll just keep an eye on them. I just hope they grow and thrive. :)
