Hi! I moved into a new home in September and noticed some VERY thorny bushes out in front. My husband and I assumed they were roses, but when they recently began to bloom, they didn't look like the sort of roses we were expecting. I've done some looking online, and they remind me of the Cherokee rose, but as far as I can tell, those only come in white. Are these roses? And if so, what kind? If not roses, what are they? Thanks!

Welcome to the forum, Conkey2k. Look up rugosa roses. I think that is what you have.

Thank you, Tina! A few varieties of the rugosas look JUST like this! I suspect I'll have a few more mystery plants as things continue to bloom and change at my new home. Hopefully I can learn how to take care of them, and maybe even get adventurous and plant my own choices as I get more comfortable.

You're welcome. We will enjoy seeing your plants, both mysteries and known ones.
