Well now that I finally know what the seed looks like, when are the seeds started for end of May planting? Does anyone know?

I have read that one should start them indoors approximately four months prior to spring planting.

Thank you, guess that would make it somewhere at the end of this month or beginning of Feb? When they start growing and come in with their 3 rd set of leaves, do they have to be snipped?

I would just start back the 4 months, from when you plan on planting them. I would make sure it is a bit after your last frost date, if it were me.

to answer your question:

You should pinch off the top growth of the geranium seedlings when the seedlings reach 4 to 6 inches in height to encourage the seedlings to grow laterally instead of taller.

Update: Well, what I thought was a weed was actually a little geranium seedling. It's only about 2-3 inches in height but has it's second set of leaves with a 3rd little coming out, should I pinch it now? Giggle, giggle.

I kept a geranium over winter in an unheated room an it is just about ready to bloom.
Made me happy. Red...

My mother-in-law would put her geraniums in her basement every late fall & bring them back out in the spring. most if not all of them lived. which was esp. nice when it came to her candy-cane stripped geraniums.

Year before last I kept a geranium alive all winter. Can't remember what happened to it but it's long gone.

I have not ever been a big geranium fan, unless it is a variegated leaved or a red/white candy striped one. Those are beautiful IMO.
