What can you do after it blooms and loses it's leaves, beside chucking it in the garbage? Can it be stored or revived for next Christmas?

yes, just care for it as you would any other plant. Then next fall, it needs a period of darkness and then after it is brought back out, it should bloom red once again.

I will double check & then come back tomorrow & verify what I have just said...

But I KNOW it will grow & be a green plant if cared for now.

I even let one sit on an open porch, without water all winter back in the day, and then I began watering it again in the spring & it lived for 1 more year...

Come spring , plant it in a shady area.. Take cuttings an poke them in the soil also.. In fall dig them up an give them a dark spot inside.. Forgot how long.

Should rebloom.. Mine used to . Havent done it for a while.

In the meantime, it's in the livingroom with mostly spindly bare stems without any leaves on it, can I cut them down or put a bag over it so no one will see it, laughing....It was a very big full plant while it lasted, the room doesn't get any sun, just bright light. It would be okay but every time I would water it, it got bad leaf drop, so think I went wrong somewhere there.

You should be able to trim it some, but just water it & make sure it gets some sun..it will revive, at some point.
