We had a shih Tzu and had to put her down at 14 because she was ill. It's been over a year and even though we have another dog left in the home, I really miss her. Hubby said no more dogs, but has changed his mind and said we can get a rescue dog. Because we live in the city, I don't think it's fair to get too big of a dog, as they need room to run and exercise. Smaller rescue dogs are hard to come by, and I don't want an old dog or I may be going through expense and sorrow soon after. Guess if the right one comes along, I will know it. Thanks for listening.

yes, small rescue dogs are hard to come by--BUT if you go to your local shelter and tell them what you are looking for they generally will put your name on a list and notify you when such a dog comes along.

Good luck !

Now that's an idea, thanks JunieGirl. Although I will wait until it warms up a bit, incase I have to train or retrain the dog. Right now, we have in the minus -20's with wind chills right up into minus -30's & -40's, so that would be hard to go outside with the dog each time, plus it will give me some more time to decide if I really want another dog. The one we have is soon to be 11 years old but she is still a frisky little dog, so it may still be a good time to introduce a buddy for her while she is active and not be bothered by it.

You are welcome. My daughter used to volunteer & work at a shelter, so I have learned a few things on how they usually work. and yea, I would wait as well.

But then, it is very likely that they will not get one in real soon--but then again, one never really knows..

and also, pe patient with the 2 dogs getting to know one another. We had a Border Collie that was older (around 11 too as I remember) when we got an Australian Shepard puppy. For quite awhile Jenny would have nothing to do with the puppy..but eventually----many months later, they became the best of friends.....Just do your best to not make the older dog feel left out.

So sorry about the loss Daisy...I agree with Junie, a shelter will be more than willing to help.

Also let your friends and family know...it is amazing how word of mouth will travel.

The lady who cut my hair today recently got a dog off Craig's List.

My husband is back into the "No more Dogs" mode. As time goes by, it gets easier, but there are still times I miss that little dog. At this point my health isn't that great, so I'm not pushing it. Hopefully one day, though?

Perhaps someone could buy you a dog as a "gift"--then you would have to keep it, right ????
