We are doing a lot if soups here. Carol, The more individual servings you have tucked away in your freezer, the happier you will be. And if you ever do feel under the weather, you will be blessing your currently well self.

Yep you are so very right, Tina. I may well make another one tomorrow....

I keep forgetting to tell you...I went to the grocery store to buy my Quinoa today. The price was $14.99 for 14 oz. yikes No one I knew was going to pay that price. Esp. since I saw other pastas on sale for 99 cents a box...so, I bought myself 3 different kinds of pasta & still came out ahead.

The schools are cancelled again tomorrow it seems.

See you tomorrow.

Wow! I have to look at the price of quinoa here. It is kept near the beans and was only a little more expensive per pound that normal bean prices. Even organic stuff. But I have not bought any lately as I have some stock piled.
Sweet dreams all. I am going off to bed now.

Good morning...school has been cancelled once again, the wind chill is brutal. DH called from work and said there are cars broke down all along the highway from them freezing up while driving.

Junie, I have never seen Quinoa here..maybe in the larger Super store in town. What does it taste like?

Nana, you are a terrific grandmother...I hope your kids appreciate all what you do for them kissie

Tina, I haven't made a potato soup in a long while...do you use cream in yours?

Good morning. I think this may be our last 'warm' day. It is cooling off again. But not freezing.
Sunny, I did use a pint of heavy whipping cream. I wanted to use it up before it spoiled. I can use any type of milk available but love cream best.
I never did go out yesterday so it will happen today.

Sunny, I have no idea what Quinoa tastes like.

Wikipedia says:

It is high in protein, lacks gluten, and is tolerant of dry soil. The seeds are in general cooked the same way as rice and can be used in a wide range of dishes.

I had heard it was a pasta-type of thing & that is was good for you. I am trying to be a better eater, so I thought to use it in my soup instead of pasta or potatoes. Well, that is not going to happen at such a price.

Perhaps Tina can tell you what it tastes like & such...Tina ??

it is 7*F here this morning...there is no school again, and I am cold. Poor furnace is really getting a work out.

Quinoa has a mild taste. It is actually a seed/grain that benefits from rinsing first or it is a little bitter. It has a nearly complete protein that is missing from our traditional grains (wheat, rice, etc) It has been eaten as a basic superfood for centuries in the Central and South America. Since we have discovered it up here, nearly all is being exported and the locals are missing out on this as a basic staple. And they are having trouble keeping up with our demand. Prices have spiked.
Other seeds that are gluten free and in demand are teff, amaranth, and fonio. We are pricing the natives of the countries these are normally grown out of being able to afford their own product.
I forgot to look at quinoa when I went to the store today. But I did go to the store today. There were no super sales that interested me. My freezers are pretty much stuffed full for now. So I stuck to just replacing stuff in the larder, bread, tea, coconut water, etc. I should all hold us until Ted goes back to school on Monday. I would like to go get some pillow cases and other such things and I might just do that.

well perhaps I will get to taste it one day. For now, I will have to buy pastes with added nutrients & fiber I guess.

It is SO cold. But being in did make me clean one of my cabinets shelves out so the boys little dishes/food could be all in one place.

and oops, I am still in my warm jammies....

Don't worry about the typos Tina...we all do the same.

Here there is only wood, oil and electric heat. SIL ordered $300 worth of oil(the minimum you can buy) and it only did her 10 days. This cold snap is awful.

One thing about it though, it keeps one inside...yesterday I cleaned my fridge and cleaned my oven. I swear my next stove will be a self cleaning one.

I remember the days of buying new gas (we had a "pig" for ours out at the farm) it was once a month and I paid $300.00 to have it filled 2/3 or 3/4 (the max they would fill it) every time. THAT is why Rod built me the hot water wood burner. I loved that thing. I still remember the day he went in & used a torch to cut it up. Since he had built it he didn't want to leave it for the next family.

After we used it, I bought $99.00 of gas each year. We only used that for the cook stove and as back up if the wood burner went out.

Yes this weather does keep us inside. I pity the people w/o a home to go to.

I have a self-cleaning oven. It is nice--but I clean it so seldom I have to re-read how to do it.

Good morning. I thought I had been in before. But I guess not.
I had a very good night's sleep. And woke to finish cleaning up the stove to relight it later today. I have not needed to burn the last few days. It has been warm.
Trying to decide what to put into the crockpot for dinner tonight.

I am having bone in country pork ribs. It was been a long ti me since Rod has had the bone in kind. For some reason our grocery store has been making them boneless. he should really enjoy these.

This morning I was on the phone to all kinds of people. I have to wonder what I would do if I still had a job. When do those people make all of these types calls... why

This afternoon I have been (finally) taking down my Christmas decorations. But then I leave them up until after epiphany so I guess I am not so very far off schedule.

It is hard for working people to get business calls made most if the time. Worse if they have to hang around at home waiting for a variety of workmen.

The losing posts happens to me periodically. I don't know if it is me or the computer or what it is...but yes, it happens to me.

I wish I could eat some cookies. I want to make/eat some oatmeal cookies so badly...

I just did some grocery shopping. I think I am done visiting that place for quite awhile....

First rains of the new year are back. I think. I cannot remember if the last rains stretched through the new year.
I will be going the the grocery store often. It is right on the way to and from Ted's school and I find wonderful deals. I enjoy it in short increments.

Well see, I enjoy grocery shopping as well. It makes me smile to find good deals.
Thing is I have 2 full freezers and a full pantry. I think it might be best if I depleted most of my reserves before I go grocery shopping again.

February to November--or perhaps it was 9 months & ends after October.....LOL

IF you do not hear form me tomorrow it is because of the ice storm we had. It is supposed to come over night--there is to be sleet between 6 & 8 am then freezing rain form 10am to 10 pm then turn over to snow over night then perhaps back to ice ???

I am soon off to bed.

Sweet Dreams wavy

Keep safe, Carol. I would be cooking so as to warm the house and the people.
I have a large pot of water on to put into the bathroom later to warm it for baths. Today is getting ready for school day. I have not spent much time on grooming, just basic keeping clean. Ted's beard has grown long enough to get soft again.

I am going to bake today, Tina. I wanted to make my sister some oatmeal muffins, to make breakfast easier, but I think I will make her some snicker doodle muffins instead....as she likes those.

Then I am going to make her some spaghetti sauce & take her the rest of the meal uncooked, so she can cook the pasta, etc when she wants a quick meal this week.

IF the weather holds I can have Rod take me to deliver all of this this evening...
