This is my Church's recipe.
Obviously it has been cut down to a manageable amount, but it tastes wonderful and you can freeze it !!!
Tina pointed out to me that I should say:
This doesn't set up like Jell-O but creates more of a sauce type dish. It will be akin to thick chunky applesauce
.

Great with Turkey but also good with Pork.

CRANBERRY SALAD

1 pound Whole cranberries,
2 Jonathan Apples,
2 ribs of celery, cleaned
3 Oranges

1) wash and pick through cranberries to remove bad berries.
2) wash celery ribs, cut off bad areas.
3) wash apples and oranges well.
4) leave peeling on all fruit, but you may remove cores of apples and seeds from oranges. They have a bitter taste.

Grind all the above together.
Add:
1 (3 oz. pkg.) regular Strawberry Jell-O
(dissolved in 1 cup boiling water)
1 (3 oz. pkg.) regular Orange Jell-O
(dissolved in 1 cup boiling water)

Mix all the above together.

Now add sugar to taste, and mix well
You will need 1 to 2 cups depending on your preferences.

You can make it up days in advance and keep it in the fridge until you need it.. Then as I said, you can freeze it..it freezes great.

You should maybe add that this doesn't set up like Jell-O but creates more of a sauce type dish? So we don't think we blew it. It sounds delicious.

It sounds nice. I do think I would try it without adding all of that sugar maybe.

Well see, I agree with that.
Since you are using regular Jell-O, I think I might start with 1/3 to 1/2 C. & then taste test after mixing it well. Or wait a day & stir & taste then. And it will depend on how sweet the Oranges & Apples are too. As I recall I may have added 1 cup. BUT never 2.

Yes, so did my mother. It had grated carrots and walnuts in it. Not a favorite of mine.

Wonder how it would taste if I leave out the celery and add walnuts.

well first, you do NOT taste the celery--it is just a binder IMO. But I have seen cranberry salads close to this recipe that have pecans in them, so give walnuts a try...

My DD would do that, barb--I guess we have no lives & do not need to be told before it is necessary ??

I found out yesterday that the same DD had to work yet this week, and needed me to watch the baby today & tomorrow. Mind you her MIL knew it, back before Thanksgiving......Not that she tells the MIL much of anything....

about the cranberry salad:

The berries are whole but you grind them and all of the other fruit up so they all really fine before they are eaten....

Yes I remember well, Barb.

HER DH helps a LOT. As a matter of fact I would say he is responsible for at least half of the child care if not more--and this is after he works 8 or 9 hours.

Mine helps yes, but he is at work when she needs the baby sitting done

Why do we consider it "helping" when a dad takes care of his child? We are waaaaay off topic neener

yes we are WAY off topic, but I don't want to try to separate all the posts, so it is what it is.
and you are 100% right on the rest.
