The same is true about insurance here as well.
Rod was talking about putting a wood burner in the basement back when we first moved in B/C I was so unhappy about not having my nice warm heat that the hot water heat/wood burner afforded us. But to have it "IN: the house would either cancel or insurance or make the cost go thru the roof, so it is gas heat for us.

At the farm the wood burner was in a building in the back yard. The hot water went thru a small buried pipe to the house where the blower blew the heat in thru the house somehow. I don't know exactly how it worked, but I DO know I loved the heat.

I am off to watch Luke today. I do not know why as of yet.

Good morning. Enjoy your Luke time, Carol.
I am so grateful for my woodstoves and the ability to cook on them if I need. And although I need to go outside to gather wood to bring in for them, I am glad I don't have to go outside to feed the stoves constantly. That would be hard in harsh winter areas.
Sunny, I am assuming that it is the winter weather that makes it not good to have a big LP tank outdoors there. I am very grateful for my moderate weather. I think I'll stick around.

Yes I did enjoy my time with him.

It was not so bad to fire up the stove. Those types of fireboxes are HUGE. I forget the amount of water we heated with it. But it was lots. Rod would fill it with wood in the early morning. Then when he was on afternoons right before he left for work at 2pm. Then I would check it around 7 or so to see if it needed wood. He would fill it once again when he came home around 1 am. The only time it was bad was when we had a lot of maple or when the temps were really bad.

But never mind--I loved the heat it provided.

Cleaning out ashes was no fun.

Lots still use coal fired furnaces around here as well as wood.

I have oil n don't miss the dirt

Yes you are right, Barb. That was why I liked having my stove out in it's own shed. An added plus of that was we had a heated place for the outside animals to stay over night when the weather called for it.

PS: Rod did most of not all of the ash removing. For that I was thankful.

Not really tired but I need to go to sleep soon. teach

I do not mind cleaning the ashes from my stoves. Nor climbing onto the roof to clean the stacks. There is a lot of dirtiness involved, that is true. I do miss John adding wood to the fires in the night. Or in the early mornings before I got up.
I had to google the wood burning furnaces that were outdoors and heated homes with hot water. Had never heard of them before. I would so dread that early morning trip out to load wood.
We may be getting some rain this week. I may be lighting my stoves. Or at least the one of them.
Sweet dreams all.

Good Morning & Happy veteran's Day !!!

and as an added bonus, it is TUESDAY !!!

I 'was" Glad that Rod was there to do the early morning firings. I will say that.
But I can remember one time, one year, it was so cold (complete with snow) that Rod guessed wrong when he put in the wood the night before & we had to get up at 5 am & fire the stove. I went with him b/c we had the cats & our outside dogs in the heated shed & I thought the dogs needed to go out to potty. (cats had a litter box in the shed) Otherwise it only got fired when we were up anyway.

Lord, I miss that stove. We also had plenty of hot water in the water heater too then. Rod had it rigged that when the water heater needed water it drew it from the stove. That way it was already hot & we did not have to wait for the heater to heat it up.

Happy Veterans Day and Remembrance Day from me as well....it is snowing here so all the services were being held indoors.

I have been baking away...over ripe bananas were so cheap that I figured that I'd fill the freezer with loafs. grin

You can fill the freezer with over ripe bananas too. I have a few in mine. I bet your house smells heavenly right now.
I am sorry you have snow, Sunny. I would be baking also. I may put something in the oven yet. It is a chilly mid 50's here and overcast with a possibility of sprinkles. Rain is a nice thought but the chill is getting old already.

Bananas in our stores have lately looked strange. Sort of a gray-yellow color. I haven't bought any.

OH MY Sheri. I do not blame you. I would be staying away from bananas that looked like that was well.

Sunny, I so envy you all that lovely sweet bread in the house. Not to mention the warm toasty heat it is affording the entire house.

I tried to put letters in the mail box to go out today touched and then I turned right around & made out some stuff to go to the bank. why
No brains no headaches I guess.

Now I am washing clothes. I prefer to do that late at night.

I put mail into the outgoing late yesterday knowing it wouldn't get moved until tomorrow. I also like to dry clothes at night. It helps keep Teddy's room warm.
I never did bake today. I did broil up some french roll toast. I looked s=at the clock wrong awhile ago and added 2 hours. i thought it was closer to my bed time. I was ready.

Soon I too will go to sleep soon myself, Tina. Tomorrow I think I get to stay at home......Which will be a good place to be in the cold that is here.

Good morning, snowing out to be followed by ice pellets apparently. Winter is so grand...not. lol

There was a big commotion over people decorating for Christmas before Remembrance Day. It was on the news...apparently etiquette dictates that as long as lights are not lit until the day after it is alright. Who knew?? I still think it's wrong but that's my opinion.

Our Thanksgiving is in October so as of today Christmas is in full swing.

Good morning. I could not decorate before December, even if I were going to. I am not going to.
This is our first day of a short week. And it is cool here. But not like north of me. I'll take it.

Many people do put up their lights in the very late fall (after Halloween) for The Christmas Holidays. BUT, they just do so to avoid the harsh winter weather.

I just got back from the bank--you know the trip I was supposed to make on Saturday... lol

Rod is at an after work party. I told him to eat supper while he was out. So now I am "home free" so to speak.

Hello everyone. Day off from both jobs today. Got my oil changed this morning, resulting in me driving across both floating bridges today. It's cold but sunny and beautiful. Just finished lunch, grilled cheese and tomato soup, and am about to hunker down with a book.

Good morning...it's nice to see Dodge and Cheryl pop in.

Yesterday a pipe broke at the barn(our barn is 3 acres behind us)..so it ended up draining our well and blowing the capacitor(it protects the motor in the pump). We made a quick fix but now I have murky water and I can't use the shower or washer until I get another compressor. Did I mention we had freezing rain all night and I have an appointment in an hour to get my studded tires put on. I swear some times when it rains it really pours.

Oh my Sunny... sometimes it just hurts when things happen all at once.... hope it's not as bad as it sounds....

Yesterday when it was -15 with the wind chill we found out 2 of our baseboard heaters would not come on... they are coming today to check them out.. hopefully won't be to bad and expensive a fix but with them predicting a bad winter we just may need them to work... rest of week is going to be a little warmer but still very cold... We even turned on heaters we haven't used in years...

I am finishing up my second blanket for great grandson due in January- there is a baby shower on Saturday ,
hopefully the mama will like them...

Well Joe is finally out of shower going to head up and take a hot bath to help me get moving .. this cold just makes me so sore... and achy... going to be a long winter....

Have a good day all....

Nana

Good morning. I forgot to set my alarm last night so woke a half hour late. But it is good. I get up in plenty of time to wake and get moving.
I also wake very achy, Nana. It is hard to get moving. I hope we get rain this winter in spite of the aches they bring, though.
I got Ted to school on time and made several stops on the way home. Next week they have a 'feast' on Thursday for the kids and families. I am purchasing towards donating for that. Fun stuff.

Sunny: I am so sorry to hear this. I does seem that when it rains it pours. I hope everything improves your way and does so soon.

Nana: I hope the bath helped you. Do we get to see pictures of the blankets ???

Tina: I have a fear of waking late when I have to be somewhere. I am glad that you begin early so it all worked for you anyway. Have fun at your "feast"

Evening all,

Just finished dinner and go the big blanket basted... it's meant to be a floor blanket and maybe eventually for a twin bed .. yes will take pics when I am done... my laundry is almost done too... last load in dryer... now I can go into office and start machine sewing .... then wash the blankets ... tomorrow I need to do some deep cleaning... hopefully it will be warmer... at least a little.

The hot bath helped some this morning .. love Epson salts and lavender essential oil...
We got the thermostat fixed...now we have heat on middle floor of house- need it when it is this cold... sure hope the weather people are wrong about having a bad one but I think it will be... all the squirrels I have seen are really bushy tailed..

Well off to go sew and finish up the laundry.... have a good evening all

Nana

I look forward to your pictures, Nana.
I have already set my alarm for tomorrow morning. Just in case. But I rarely need it. I mostly wake before it goes off.
It was a good day. Full and busy. I am tired in spite of te extra half hour this morning.

Nana: You are so organized. Good for you. I cannot wait to see the pictures.

Tina Alarms are the very best. I use mine when I need to get up. As you say, it is a good back-up.

I feel like it is Friday night, not Thursday b/c Rod & I took a trip to a town 20 miles north. We fit in a stop at Wal-Mart also. I am so very tired. Luke sure wears me out...

Good Morning !!

Today I need to go thru the last of my winter clothes. As we speak they are on the spare twin bed in the computer room. Which also doubles as the grandson's room when they are here.

Then when that is done, I will need to go shopping for some hull-less popcorn. We may well have a pop corn party tonight with Luke.

WE kept My DD's dog here for awhile, remember ?/ well Luke now wants to "go on vacation" too. (we told him Beowulf was going on vacation to our house when we took him. Luke was upset as he thought his doggie would not be coming back.

So tonight is when we will go get Luke to go on his "vacation". This should be interesting...

I hope you all have fun, Carol. Is it Luke's first time without one of his parents? I really hope it works out well for all.

Is Luke spending the night?

Ginger and Colt are here. Johnny told me earlier to lock this place down cuz hell was coming to dinner. It's a jubilee.
