Hi All,
I'm new here!

My question is Shouldn't my P willow be showing signs of life by now?
I bought it last year and it was fine till spring and now it is looking kinda dead.
some of the branches are grey but some of them have an "oak" brown color to them.

It's color is supposed to be pink if that helps with anything

Thanks

Bluewolf

I would most certainly think so by now..
*ours here are already done*

Questions for you???

What kind of soil was it planted in?
And how, in a regular garden bed, or a container?

What kind of watering has it had??

When did you plant them when you got them?

I live in Illinois.

Could I be right in thinking that everything is going to be late, (or at least a number of thingsw will be) because of the warm-up/freeze we had awhile back???

I know My hydrangea's are just beginning to show life and my small red buds barely have leaves.

Usually Pussywillow's are before hydrangea's...
*First signs of spring actually*

I am wonderin' or hopin' Bluewolf could get
us a picture of her tree in question?????

Also, check by breaking a branch back a bit..
*if there's signs of green, then it's okay..

I think I planted it in August,in a regular flowerbed and it gets a little over adequate watering
and alas I do not have a camera...... yet

I to was thinkin the same thing that with the goofy weather
that things are going to be all screwy but my rose of Sharon's are getting buds my butterfly bushes are still sleeping and I have a honeysuckle that is questionable

If the pussy willow is only one year old that could explain its slow start and no catkins. The norms for a plant apply to it when its mature. Your plant has at least two more years to go to be considered estabished. See that it is getting adequate water, most important when roots are getting established. Then, let it be. My witch hazel did nothing this year but take up space. I did the prune test for live wood as Weezie has suggested so I know its roots are ok. This will be a non-blooming year for it.

Did you check yet to see if
any parts are still green on a branch????

If there aren't even a leaf or a bud,
it may be zoin'ked for good...

This is the shrub form correct?
How large is the shrub and what is the length of the stems? Did you cut the stems back last fall?

Can you expand on 'rootbound' -
root look the same as when planted-
roots growing around in a circle-
roots are spreading and anchoring the shrub?

Herbalyn,
Yes it is the shrub form.
It is about 3 ft tall.
stems are around 1 1/2ft
no I did not prune it last fall. Was I supposed to?
roots are spreading and anchoring the shrub.

You were right not to cut stems back last fall. If you had it might explain no catkins as they form on last years wood.

Has your shrub perked up at all? Did the shrub come from a grower in your area?
