WOW, we were well over 200 in the last "What did you do in the Garden" thread.... zoink

I went out between rain showers and put some flower pots, and my bird feeders away so they do not get blown around tonight if the bad storms return...While out I pulled some weeds--I so wish it were done storming. The ground is so soggy that pulling weeds was actually fun !!!

so short story.....I pulled some weeds, but I guess we have to start someplace, huh ?

Today I put out some of the squash plants in the straw bales but it's so windy that I stopped. I was going to plant the corn and okra but it's just too windy. Maybe tomorrow.

I am certainly getting a late start this year. nono

I transplanted 6 or 7 sunflower plants to my small veggie garden. Now I will hope they settle in, so the birds will be happy.

Then as the ground was nice & soggy, I pulled about 20 gallons of huge weeds (roots & all) from thier current homes. Then I began to fill up my half barrel that I used to put water lilies in, with dirt. I will plant the 2 remaining cherry tomatoes that I have in it. I planted the first cherry tomato plant in the 27 qt. pot that I keep on the deck for such tomato plants. As I usually do, I may also put a basil plant in with it.

Rod says we need to raise the west end of my flower bed, as it is sinking into the ground. when I know what kind of dirt I want he will stop on his way hom & pick it up, as he will have the truck.

You have worked hard, Carol. I miss having access to a truck. I do not miss paying for it or maintaining it, however.

Bless you Tina, but there is so much to do yet. This afternoon I finished filling the half barrel and had planned on planting the last 2 cherry tomatoes. BUT we "might" get a bad storm tonight so that did not happen. Instead I "battened down" the hatches outside some so if it does storm as little as possible gets messed up.

**Pulled a few more weeds**

maybe you can start a snowman business. Or a snow cream business.

It poured down rain yesterday and today I have blooms on the squash. Yippee.

I hope there are lots of onions left too, Sheri.

Barb, to my notion you can replant those 8 onions. I plan my onions in stages so I have "green onions" for a longer period of time anyway. So this just gives you a chance to start a second round of onions, right ??? why

No shortage here.
I to love eating the tips......In cooking an salads.. I also have a good catch of chive which I use until the greens are ready....They come back yearly an sure taste as good as greens.

PS your the first person besides me, who eats the greens of onions. People poo poo me on that ???????? I love the tops.

yes I love the tops too. I put them in salads, on baked potatokies (as you would cut up chives) and I put them in scrambled eggs. if you have not tried that you must do so.

in the winter I finely chop up sweet onion, cook it in butter for a bit & them add my egg to scramble it. Both are wonderful.

My Dad used to make a end of season tomato dish that had the green onions in it. He fried say 6 pieces of bacon in a pan, took them out, crumbled them up & set them aside. he then removed all but a bit of the bacon grease, then added cut up onions (green and or the fully mature onion), peppers, & tomatoes, etc. cooked it all together & at the last dropped in the crumbled bacon. YUM !! he would put that on top of pork chops, mashed potatoes, eggs of any kind (I liked it on scrambled) and anything else he took a notion to top with it. It also froze well. I had a seal-a-meal & I would put it in them so in the winter I had a reminder of the summer.. YUM !!

and oh I forgot--he would start with cooked macaroni, top with that & call it poor man's spaghetti. That too was yummy.

There's got to be a way to keep potatoes covered. My 2 foot ditch hasn't worked. I've already had to cover them 3 or 4 times and I'm running out of dirt.

Yes, I was wondering what the problem was too. Is rain washing heaped soil away?
