Remember a few months ago, I asked you guys to send me a green thumb, well here are a couple of my new starters. They are doing better this year than they usually do. For the first time, I planted purple wave from my own seed. They seem to be doing well so far. Then I planted Sweet Williams and Dianthus (not sure of the spelling) from seed, think it's called that. Now, here's hoping that they will last in their containers for another month or more. Our area had a long cold winter, and they say it will take the ground longer to unthaw for planting. I already transplanted them a few times so hope they survive. [Linked Image]

I can't wait to get them into the ground.

Well, it seems like my green thumb is growing upwards. We didn't have sunshine for a couple of days and today we did, and boom, instead of side ways, the purple waves shot upwards and if they do this anymore, then they will become spindly or so I think, or do they just fall over, and drape down. We probably have close to a month before they can be put out in the garden, so how can I stunt their growth for a while without doing them in? Should I transplant them into a bigger container or will that make it worse, anyone know?

could you thin them out & perhaps put the thinned out ones in another container (larger one though so they could grow??)
It sounds to me as it they really need to be planted out, but as it is too early, perhaos giving them more room would buy them some time.
They are a nice size so they might be ok with transplanting some to another container.

I found the below on the internet. I hope it helps too.

Petunia seedlings usually become spindly when they don't receive enough light indoors. If you grow the transplants in a sunny window, ensure they receive at least six hours of direct light and rotate the pots daily so the plants receive sunlight on all sides and grow straight. growing petunias 6 inches beneath a fluorescent light, left on for 12 hours a day, ensures the transplants receive sufficient light for strong growth.

Hopefully someone else will come by with an idea or 2.
