Hello. I purchased a pot of blooming Calla Lilies 3 years ago which had short leaves and small light purple blooms. Since they initially stopped blooming I dried the soil over the winter and then in the spring re-potted them all together. the next year they grew very long leaves but no blooms. Then last year it was the same, very very long leaves (like over 18 inches). So this year when I re-potted them in the spring I broke up the colony of bulbs and re-potted them in several pots and they began growing again initially with short leaves but now they are getting very long again and I really want them to bloom as they were so pretty before. Does anyone have any suggestions? They are in a large sunny window facing south and potted in Miracle Grow potting soil. Thanks.

There are three most common causes of calla lilies not blooming:
a. Lack of light - callas need lots of light and they especially like morning sun with a little afternoon shade
b. Too much water - with the hybrid callas, soil should be kept moist but not soggy. Overwatering can cause disease and/or bulb rot which can severely weaken the plant.
c.Poor quality bulbs - older tubers that have already been used for cut-flower production are often ‘tired’ and worn out and produce few if any flowers.
