I thought to begin my New Thread down here now, so I could more easily add to it as I complete more of it.

This prequilted stamped "crib cover" is called "On The Farm"

Below is what the finished product will look like--except that the tractor will be red and I will change up a few more things to my liking.
[Linked Image]

Next is the piece of fleece that I will add to the back. This will make one side soft & cuddly, the blanket warmer and it will "hide" the floss threads from little fingers

Thanks ladies...I mean it to be a keepsake.

Sheri--I like the metallic as well, so thanks.

I have ordered several different colors of satin floss. I am hoping to add it to the quilt as well..I do so wish it would get here.

Barb, I have like 5 or 6 differnt needles threaded at one time. I do that and I sew all of one color at a time, because I agree, I hate to be changing threads constantly.

Thanks Tina & Barb... shewinks

Barb: This is called a "Crib Cover" it is made by the company "Bucilla" . It is a Pre-Stamped Cross stitch pre-quilted quilt cover. (it fits the top of a crib mattress.)
finished size is 34 inches by 43 inches. Number is WM45567
Floss included but you get to guess the names/numbers of each color. touched

I found it at Wal-Mart in the fabric section.
BUT I have also seen it on e-bay.
E-bay is where I got the Farmall Fleece to use as the backing.

Actually the original color of the tractor IS green--so you would be set. BUT my SIL (Henry's father) is a Farmall person, so I thought it best to make the tractor red--and then that is why I bought the Farmall Fleece for the back of the quilt. Plus with the fleece it will make a thicker/warmer Blanket.

IF I had of taken even more time to do this and ran the stitches betwen the 2 layers of the pre-quilted cloth I would not have needed to cover the back as there would have been no loose strings to catch Henry's little fingers.----
but this is a pain enough to finish as is, what with the "X's" that are so are so close together that they almost touch and so it is taking a much longer time to finish.

Tina: IF she ever does appreciate anything I do she never says so. BUT as I am married to her daddy, I understand that, Right now Luke's quilt is here. She says I asked for it so I could tack down the front to the back. Well, I did 18 months ago.

When she said that her DH said to me, and you can jsut keep that here... rolz

Dodge. I don't say anything to her. THAT is why it is so hard on me that Valarie lives so far away. But thanks for the acvice. It is sound for sure.

When my oldest daughter was born my sister in law made a beautiful yellow flowered coverlet for a bassinet. It was so pretty. Shelley was the first grand child on both sides so she was special. Shelley weighed 9 pounds even and moved around a lot and when we put her in that bassinet she would scoot to the top and rub the skin off her head so she only slept in it 2 or 3 nights. I didn't know until years later that it hurt my SIL's feelings and made her angry at me. My husbands cousin told me one day that my SIL had said something to the effect that I didn't use that bassinet after all the work she had done. I don't even know how she knew I wasn't using it since I left it sitting out for months because it was so pretty and if she had mentioned it to me I would have explained and she would have been ok because I now she didn't want her only niece to have a scratched up head. So before you get hurt feelings over something ask about it. Maybe there's an explanation.

Ginger on the other hand is just plain mean and everyone knows it. She does not like her mother in law and it's obvious. Her MIL knitted her a gigantic, lovely afghan and Ging threw it in the bottom of a big basket and covered it with a bunch of quilts and other blankets. Colt and I were playing one day, knocked over that basket, and when I saw that afghan I brought it home and have it on my couch. I love it. I also have a black sweater and this past weekend got a green pull over shirt that Ginger's husband mother or grand mother had given her. She refuses to have anything to do with anything they give her so heck yeah, I'll take it. The black sweater is cashmere!!

Well, My Valarie is not mean and she likes her in-laws--but as this is her first child she is not aware of how many blankets that she can use. Time will fix that...Plus she does not do this kind of thing much (she does crochet) and so I doubt if she knows what kind of work goes into them.

My Emily is a minimalist & she wants nothing to do with "things"..as I have said she does not care for her in-laws & many of her blood realatives (she thinks many do not like her). Sadly, she looks at things "differently"

Thanks for the kind words, though....I DO appreciate it.
I am a strong person, I will get thru this.

Man, I had loads and loads of baby blankets. And I know I used them all when the babies were not feeling well. Even with the washer going constantly. I actually still have a few of them around.

My oldest sister and her husband have every college degree you can think of. Years ago when they had their first child they had bought a book about what you need for a baby. Not sure where they got this stupid book but they bought exactly what the book said.

4 receiving blankets
12 diapers (cloth back then)2 to be used as burp cloths
4 bottles - 2 big, 2 small
2 sets of crib sheets
4 night gowns

My mother and I went to Boston before she and her baby came home from the hospital and even I knew, and I was younger, that this was not enough for a new baby. Mother and I went to KMart and bought stuff before she brought him home. Intelligent dummies is what I called them.

I think we went through their original stash in the first 1/2 hour the baby was home.
