Thanksgiving Feast 2013 (for 3 whole people) is done... My mom keeps asking what's in things; I keep responding "wouldn't you like to know"

Turkey, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, butternut squash, stuffing, whipped sweet potatoes and bananas with honey and pecans...

I wish the whipped sweet potatoes and bananas with honey and pecans would have come out better; it was a recipe I hadn't tried before and I don't think I'll try it again lol... The only one who liked it was me, and it took far too long to make lol.

But thanks for your kind words :)

That is a new one to me.
I was curious of that one.. I aren't a honey lover. Tators I like the own flavor without any thing added. However we never know till we try.
Everyone has different tastes.

Good job. Most men would not take on the whole load like that. Bet Mom was proud.

She was never really one for the holidays, or cooking... I'm pretty sure she was rather thankful when I learned to cook lol...

Oh Sweet potatoes.. That's different.. However I aren't a sweet tator lover.
Was wondering how white tator fit with honey an bananas.

Actually the trend around here in the younger generation, is non cooking. They mostly go out to eat.. My son is no exception. He an his family do it often.

Depending on how one operates, eating out is more pricey. I freeze an can anything I can get my paws on, in season. However to each his own.

Lots of the churches an organizations around here have dinners year around, an get lots of support..
Fish frys are big time here.

Keep up the good work James.. Your kids will love you for it . :ding:

I also made deviled eggs to be eaten while I was finishing up cooking; I mix the yokes, mayo, shredded cheddar cheese, garlic, and bacon together and pipe back into the solid whites... Such a full flavor profile, definitely one of my favorites :)

Your eggs sound yummy, James--& the other dishes look good too.

WE had 2 turkeys--one smoked & one roasted in a NuWave---poor dressing made my my oldest DD's EX-MIL, (long story) mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, green bean casserole, boughten sweet potato casserole (that was surprisingly good)--rolls--& pies-and OH !! lots of appetizers---

I too am impressed with your cooking abilities.. thumbup

My stuffing was yummy; I cooked some turkey sausage and the giblets and diced it all, celery, garlic, chicken broth, portabella mushrooms, yellow mushrooms.

For potatoes I boiled yellow potatoes so i didn't have to remove the skin, added garlic, butter, sour cream.

The butternut squash I simply pealed, cubed, tossed in garlic powder and olive oil, and baked for about an hour.

I tried the sweet potato thing instead of the BOSC pear desert I was planning; should have just went with the pears lol...

I like cooking, it keeps me busy, keeps my mind off of things I'd rather not have to concentrate on lol... I especially like trying new recipes, but every so often I end up with a dud that gets thrown out (I usually go through sites that show high rated recipes and tweak them over time, the sweet potato thing was from an article in food network magazine and just didn't turn out really well). Though I did get to roast a banana, that was an interesting experience...

I make a good stuffing but for some reason my DD keeps asking her Dh's friends mom to make that--oh well, I should not be eating it anyway I guess.

I usually scrub my potatoes, cut out any bad places & then leave the peeling on when I cook them to mash---you get more potato for your $$ plus, all the vitamins, etc are between the skin & the potato--so it is a win win to my notion.

ALL of your dishes sound delicious, well except for the sweet potato recipe--that does not sound good to me at all,--sorry !! why And that cooking helps you relax, is great----

Actually, roasted bananas are pretty good on their own. But I am not sure how I would like it in a sweet potato mash-up. I love sweet potatoes on their own and eat them often just roasted.
Your dinner sounds and looks lovely, James. I love cooking.

Loved deviled egg recipe..
Is the garlic flaked?
Is the bacon cooked and crumbled?

I may try that one.
Thanks ..

I sauteed the garlic (just tend to do it for everything, it brings out a better flavor) and the bacon was cooked and crumbled yes (well, I tend to just take my cooking shears and cut the bacon into small strips before cooking)
