Well, my oldest DD is going to her in-laws house for Thanksgiving---there is so much family there they party all weekend long.. we have what we call a "Dudley Thanksgiving" (where an Italian meal is served) the Saturday after Turkey Day so all of use "Dudley's" can get together. I will get to see her there. My youngest will have Thanksgiving day proper (she likes to do that so she can stay home & have both sides of her and her DH's family ) So I will be going there. THEN---She offered to hold the Dudley Thanksgiving as well. I will help her with both. The person hosting has the meat & potatoes & everyone else makes sides & brings desserts.

Cool If it works. Quiet no fuss is preferred here. Some actually go restaurant hopping instead. So granny don't have to cook.

Sounds lovely, as the years pass family traditions are slowly fading. It's such a shame...hoping whatever your plans, they are filled with good food and the people you love.

My family isn't too close, everyone has their own families and things to do; which makes it hard to instill a sense of togetherness for my kids... I usually cook a huge meal, even though it's usually just for my mom and Trey; I like to cook and figure it just gives me an excuse to get lost in cooking lol. Sometimes when I don't have Trey I'll bring my mom to Gustav's, which is a German restaurant not too far from my place; it's a little spendy but man, do they know how to cook...

My family is so screwed up I will do the same thing I have done for the past several years...stay home and have a sandwich or make a pot of soup. Clam chowder sounds good!

With the price of Turkey this time of year, I vote that you make some turkey soup. Speaking from experience, I can say it is fantastic. If I am making the dinner or if I can "steal" the carcus, I make turkey soup with it.--you would not believe the amount of meat that is left on a stripped carcuss-- So I can just imagine how much meat there would be if you had the butcher cut one in half--or even in 4ths---PS: A lot of butchers would cut up the turkey for free, I am sure.--That or buy turkey pieces... Now I am hungry for Turkey soup.......

We don't eat turkey. I'll probably fix ham or chicken. I'm not sure what the weather is supposed to be on Thanksgiving day. It snowed here 2 days ago and yesterday was 25 degrees but Sunday it's going to be 70.

I think one is supposed to eat too much on Thanksgiving--it is a "right".
I do not care too much for ham, which is good as Now a days I am not supposed to eat it. I know many people lobve it, esp on the Holidays though, so that is great.
Barb, it is nice that you fix your traditional dishes--it keeps them as a tradition in your family--which is nice.

WE have to have turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberry salad, & lots of pies. I usually make a pumpkin pie for home when we are invited out as well..I just hate coming home to no "leftovers". That is whyI usually wrangle the carcuss from whomever to make the soup. I say no matter what the food, enjoy the holiday & your family.

Carol True true If you eat out no leftovers from the restruant. Sis always orders a pie to take home. I like pie better than cake.

When I do a Turkey I usually get a giant one and stuff it then add chicken broth then roast it and make gravy out of the turkey drippings and chicken broth; not sure what sides I'm going to make though...

Hi all, We will have most of the kids here and grands..and a couple single friends of family and grandsons girlfriend... . menu will be the traditional turkey- stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, sweet potatoes, green bean casserole, corn pudding,Hot rolls, apple pie, lemon meringue pie, Carol I always save the carcus too and break it up a little and roast the bones and leftover meat in the oven on low for a little while... till they are nice and browned.. stick them in the crock pot with broth and let them cook over night... makes the best broth base for the soup... like it almost as much as the dinner.... It's getting to be cloudy and windy here now- we may get some rain- or snow... hope it's not snow yet.. we have a lot of errands and appts first part of next week. doc appts.. got to go register the new car, get the plates for it.. and transfer the old car over to grandson... find a place that will take his old car .. grocery shop and who knows what else we will find to do- doc did say I was basically healthy and doing ok- just need to lose weight- easier said than done ... but I do need to get motivated to do it.. oh yes visit the financial guy is in there too... and being taxi service to boys ... whooo I am tired in advance! LOL! Well off to finish my laundry and get some more done to my office.... Have a good day all ...... Nana

If you buy a fresh Turkey to roast, it will be moist when it is done--hands down it is the best type to buy, even if it is a bit more a pound--and as luck would have it we have a turkey farm about 10 miles from my house...:) Thanks for the tip, Sherri--I will try roasting my carcas next time.
