I've had Roma tomatoes in the past. This year I bought Roma tomato plants at a Garden Center, the bush is high, the fruit is turning red at cherry tomato size but is elongated instead of round but contains lots of seeds with very little fleshy part?

The one thing I enjoyed about Roma's in the past is they didn't have a ton of seeds. What on earth did I buy? They look like they could be roma's but I'm not convinced they are?

There is a Cherry Roma tomato variety that you may have well purchased. They are around 1 inch in size and are plum shaped. They are used mainly for snacks or salads. & they are a heirloom variety.

Thanks, I found the tag, and it says Roma VF pear or plum shaped fruit so it is probably the same ones you are referring to. They are about the size of a cherry tomato but elongated. However almost every one who have tasted them are not fond of the taste in comparison to the other tomatos I have. Lots of seed inside. At first I was going to pull the whole bush, but my mother in law suggested I cut the tops off and scoop out the seeds. Will try that. Am I wrong or does the regular Roma have a minimum amount of seed? I planted them one year and from what I remember they didn't have that much seed in them?

The Roma Tomatoes do typically have less seeds that your regular tomato, you are correct on that.

I buy those for my salads often, I just wash & cut them in half & toss on the salad--that & they are great on a veggie tray (the ultimate tomato finger food). I don't really think they have an excessive amount of seeds... why
But having said that, that is my opinion---
your MIL has a good idea there, if yoiu do not like the seeds, just scoop them out. Then you could just use them for salads, that or you cook them down, strain them & use the "sauce" in recipes. It would freeze well too. This winter you might feel differntly about the taste. fresh beats canned all over the place.

Thanks, last night I did some research on Roma vf and from what I seen, they aren't suppose to have a lot of seeds and are suppose to be a good tomato, so wonder what gives? I have bought the little ones in trays for party platters before, and if those were Roma's, they were definitely better tasting than the one's I have growing. They were also smaller. I did read one article saying that hot dry weather conditions could give this tomato a bland taste. Our weather has been extremely hot and dry. Maybe that has something to do with how many seeds have developed in the tomato?. I haven't tried them for a while, I should give them another try now that they've been on the vine for a while.
