I was on the deck taking pictures of some garden whimsey, when this friendly black capped chickadee allowed me to take his picture. They are some of the tamest wild birds I know - I'm hoping to get them to eat out of my hand, eventually...

With sunflower seed in mouth:

Your feeding Black Oil Sunflower seed......GOOD FOR YOU! And I LOVE your basket feeder on the bottom. I don't have one of those. We don't have the Black-Capped in this part of Tennessee, onlt the Carolina Chickadee. I have Titmouses coming to my feeders this morning.

Thorny - I have such an assortment of birds eating these sunflower seeds - it's the only kind I buy anymore! I get chickadees, titmouses, juncos, nuthatches, bluejays, cardinals, mourning doves, downy, hairy and red bellied woodpeckers, northern flickers, goldfinches...

All eat these sunflower seeds!
I'm surprised about the goldfinches - I thought they preferred thistle?

I saw a different bird eating the dropped seeds on the ground below yesterday - gotta get out my Sibley's and look it up!

Here is a picture I took this week of a male House Finch and a male American Goldfinch having a, "Boys' Day Out" at two of my Black Oil Sunflower seed feeders in my yard. SEE! they DO like something besides Thistle seed.

Wild canaries is a nickname for the American Goldfinch. See Thornys picture? The bird on the right is a male American Goldfinch. Is that what you saw BettyBoop?
