It's Centaura Montana - sometimes called mountain bluet. I have several of these, as they will self-seed if you let them. Mine do look blue - I think it depends on the exposure they grow in?

Same here for the most part, but I have to say that my plants of Centaurea Montana bloom a true blue.

The only thing I ever bought that was really blue was an iris from Jackson and Perkins, back when I lived at the farm. It was a beautiful deep blue.
My mom bought me a huge pack of 5 different kinds of bulbs that were a "Blue Garden" and they are all purple. But, no problem...I love purple! thumbup

I have one of those plants and it is blue also...I find it is straggly though, resembles a burdock..I keep debating to pull it out.

Me too on the color blue. Everything looks purple. dodge, you get the best sales. I used to grow nigella and it was a pale blue most of the time.

Dodge - I just had a thought - perhaps your plant was grown in soil that is either more acidic or not than mine? You know, like how hydrangeas can bloom pink or blue depending on the soil quality? It's worth looking into - maybe you could amend the soil?

I will try to save seeds. However, the past several years, the critters have bitten off each flower just as they came into full bloom, ate a bite or 2, and left them on the ground. There were no flowers left on the plants to get to seed. Can you say infuriating???

By the way, I wish our library had a plant sale - I think those kinds are the best!
