Good morning all. I'm an avid photographer that loves flowers. Living in Portland, Oregon I live in a virtual Garden of Eden here as we have a fantastic climate to grow everything. There are huge commercial flower farms in oregon and flowers festivals all year long.

A photographer for 42 years I make the rounds of the tulip, peony and dahlia festivals each year. I live in a tiny sub-studion apartment but always try to have a few varieties of flowers growing on my balcony planters. I do not know much at all about flower gardening or flowers in general but I'm willing to learn.

I will be converting a lot of my flower photos to 640 x 480 to comply with forum rules. I have 3 camera systems including a Nikon D800 at 36.3 Mpixels. It will take a bunch of shrinking to get down to the maximum limit. So be it.

As with any new forum this will be a feeling out process to see how I fit in with this forum as well as a discovery process to see If the forum meets my needs. I hope to fit in here. - Bob

Welcome to our forum Bob! As a fellow Oregonian and Portlandite (more Milwaukie though) I agree with you about the giant garden which surrounds us.

I saw some of your pictures on your Tumblr; I must say, great job... I wish I was half as good at closeups as some of the photos of yours I glanced over.

Thanks for the compliments. Most lenses have a close focusing distance but it takes a true macro to get really close. I have a 30mm macro for my Sony NEX-5N and an 85mm macro for my Nikon D7000. They both let me fill my sensor completely.

I'm still using a Canon XSi (12.2mp) with the stock (18-55mm f/3.5-5.6) lens with a handful of filters lol...
