So I have 300+ snapdragon seeds that should have been planted a few weeks about but my schedule and the weather haven't been cooperative. I've also been having trouble finding a suitable tray. All of the seed-starting trays I've seen come with individual cups and sometimes even netted soils. But that's impractical and expensive with the number of seeds I need to plant. I did manage to buy some trays that came with eco-pots but figured I wouldn't use them for this, I would just use the tray. The problem is the trays I bought don't have drainage holes. I tried to make my own holes but the thin plastic kept splitting and the water still didn't drain enough when I tested it. I really need help so that I can get these seeds planted and growing this Saturday before it gets much later in the season. I don't know where I can buy trays that I can use or (preferably) what I can do with these trays to get them to work.

If you had a good place so that they wouldn't need to be moved, you could use styrofoam or paper cups. They are usually sold in bulk at the dollar store.

You could also ask at a local restaurant..they might have egg crates or egg cartons to give you. They work great.

snapdragons have shallow roots so starting them indoors can be fun. I don't like egg cartons because they dry out so quickly. But each person has to find their own way. Your going to laugh but I kept my yogurt cups and now am overrun with them. I have more cups than I have space to put them out to start plants. I can only do about 50 plants inside and I have many more than that.

I would suggest direct sowing them this year rather than trying to start them indoors because it is late to start them that way this year. Just make sure that your bed has loose soil that has enough humus that it will stay moist. Moist being equivalent to a sponge that has been wrung out.

I love snapdragons I hope you have the best of luck with them.
