That would be wonderful, Barb, I have never grown Poppies..that sounds like fun. I must say though I do not think I have anything to send you in trade. why
It seems, I am really poor at harvesting seeds in the fall.

I do have some "Golden Creeping Jenny" aka: "Lysimachia nummularia 'Aurea'" growing in my rocked area that has to be moved, I could send you some of that. I keep it in a pot & it comes back every year--it is 3 or 4 years old now

let me know--- shewinks

I planted those seeds before it got cold,, and it rained off and on after that,, next thing I knew they were growing, didn't take long it seems.. I just barely covered them with soil. I will be saving some seeds as well.
BTW Lynne,, I've tried them before but they never did anything,, Dodge's seeds must love Tx soil,, cuz grow they did, thumbup

Dodge - that's very sweet of you to offer. Not to offend, but I don't grow red flowers - it's just something I don't care for really. Would you have seeds of another color poppy?

For a few years, I would get seeds from a friend who lives on the beach in NY - we have always missed her blooms, but always seem to be there when the seed pods are right for picking. Am I supposed to be putting the seeds out in the fall so they get the cold winter? Just wondering because Diane said she put hers out before the cold.

I had bought a few packets of blue poppy seeds one year and again, nothing happened. I would love blue ones if you have, Dodge, as Diane mentioned in the other thread.

Also, what kind of exposure do you grow them in? Sun? Partial shade? Shade?

Sorry I have no blues
Planted some an they didn't grow.
I so them in sun or shade.

I don't separate my seeds usually in poppy,
But have pkt of California yellows if you desire.
Usually spring an all year till frost I just plant them

Diane - I just love your LC! What a great idea and cute name! It looks so very healthy. Mine are first starting to stand up and some have tiny beginnings of buds. It got a lot of damage this year with all the snow we had plus the hurricane last October.

Suzydaze - MUST have that orange flower!!! It is gorgeous! I do all yellow and orange flowers around my pond and that one is sooooo nice! I will try to google orange flowers - do you know if this is an annual or perennial?

Barb--this is not the best picture, but in the upper right (shorter) is the Babies Tears Moss---then in the lower left is Scotch Moss (taller with white tiny flowers)--They get full afternoon sun which is not the best I guess, but it does get a lot of water as it is right below the water faucet, so it seems to do well there...

Carol I have my Passion flower in the ground,, I believe when Lynne had one it was in a pot due to the harsher winters in NY and would probably be the same in Ill. When I see them at the nurserys they are always in a 2 or 3 gallon pot to sell, with recommendations to leave in a pot,, But since I'm in tx and have less severe winters I put mine in the ground, even tho it may snow and hard freezes once in a while the leaves always stayed green,

WOW Carol - wonderful plants! thumbup

When I grew a passion flower, it started out as a 6 inch cutting that I got at a plant swap up in Connecticut with barey any roots. I rooted it longer, and then potted it up in a very large pot. I put it on my front porch for about 3 summers until it finally gave out. It had all morning direct hot sun and then afternoon shade in summer, and had to be brought inside for winter where it was by my basement sliding doors that get late afternoon sun. It got very long and leggy, and try as I might, I couldn't root cuttings except for one that I had sent to Diane.

I bought a small spiderwort plant like yours a month ago, but put it in a pot by the pond. It's not doing much at all - a few flowers here and there. I put it in a pot because I read that it can get invasive. Now I just read that they slow down in the heat of summer. Hmmm might have to rethink where it is - it's in a prime real estate area! lol

My Arizona Sun Gaillardia is also blooming now. The mother plants haven't grown back this year, but I do have a few seedlings in the areas where they were. The interesting thing is that the flowers are a bit different on 2 plants that are right next to each other.

So sorry about the rain - we are getting it here too. As a matter of fact, it's almost dark as night here and it's almost 2p.m.

How large is the flower?

Lynne, The Bachelor Buttons bloom in spring-Summer-& Fall. So the answer to your question is yes. But I will need tyo keep up with the deadheading.

Lynne, I also LOVE your Arizona Sun--it is beautiful.

I so hope that I have not waited too long to go get my Passion flower, Diane---I have just "the" pot...

I had intended on going flower shopping today--but I had things to do for my MIL so I took the time that was left & I got a pedicure.

EUREKA - I FOUND IT!!! This has been bothering me all day, since Dodge posted this picture. I just found it online, doing a search for yellow centered flowers, of all things!!! It is SPRAXIS.

Here is a link to the page I found it on:
spraxis

Well... apparently in a further search, it is really spelled SPARAXIS. No wonder I was having a hard time finding it for sale online! It's in the same family as Freesia and Gladiola.

Ok, the more I read about it, the more frustrated I get - Dodge - is this perennial for you? I have just read that it's only perennial in zones 9-11!

WOW Dodge - great find! So you found corms in the dollar store? I've never seen them in mind. Funny that you say they are late this year - everything here is so early this year - my hydrangeas are coming into bloom and usually they don't until August. My sedum autumn joy are also about to bloom - another late season flower. Some of my smaller ornamental grasses have already bloomed - again, usually do not until late summer.

Diane - I guess I won't have to worry about when they bloom this year - the deer had already eaten most of them 1/2 way down, therefore eating off all the buds!!! There are 2 that still have them - though I shouldn't say that out loud - they'll probably be gone tomorrow!

Thanks everyone..
Diane: The only Coneflower that I had "not" come back was the short pink one called "Little Annie" I think the Bachelor Buttons choked it out. ...FYI: I buy mine as plants in the 6 inch pots....

If you remind me early next spring I can send you starts of the Double Delight & the Coconut Lime--those I have here.
.
I seem to have trouble with the Blanket flowers-- my tall "Burgundy Silk" did not come back nore did my "Oranges & Lemons". why

Lovely flowers!!

My sister has deer around her house that eat everything in sight. She plants things that are supposedly deer resistant but not to her deer. They eat it all. She can't have a shrub around her house and it looks so bare. She has all sorts of wooded areas where she lives so they're not starving. The deer travel through her yard in large herds and eat the entire time.

Diane that's interesting about the cone flowers. They're easy to grow around here just from the crowns of the old flowers. Guess you're weather isn't just right.

I had plenty of them where I lived before,, it's not the weather, I believe its this old soil here. Although I've amended the soils especially for the cone flowers they still wont grow,, I want to move back to where I was boohoo

Love cone flowers. I think it was Lynne who sent me some heads off some she had years ago that started mine. I know it was Cindy Lou who sent me zinnia seeds that started mine years ago. It seems most of what I have got a start from seeds sent from here. I know dodge and angelblossom have sent me seeds too. I've got it all in a notebook.

I hope to get seeds this year. I've always cut the spent blooms off as soon as they start wilting, but this year I'm leaving them in hopes to get some seeds.

I can't see Cindy's picture today. Is it just me or is something going on with the site?

Sheri--I see it here too--but I will say this---on FaceBook I had many blank pictures. When I went back later, some were there then & some were not---try closing out of TGH & then come back in---perhaps that will help you here too. It helped me with FB. Can't hurt to try, right ??? why

Well to each his own, but I have not ever seen any Porno on Facebook, thank goodness.
It is how I keep up with my daughters though.

I never see any either,, it's how I keep up with school mates and family and friends that don't garden. grin the main thing about face book is not clicking on everything and sharing everything. Just talk with people like we do here.
