Hey all, I have a 3 tiered concrete bird bath. It really doesnt hold water, so I was thinking of turning it into a planter. It is shallow, and has no drainage holes, so I'm not sure if it will work, or what I could plant in it. Its in a shady spot under a large crabapple tree. Can relocate it if needed, to a sunny spot.
We garden veggies, (still learning a lot there), but I am really clueless when it comes to flowers. I was thinking of maybe putting some of that moss stuff, then the potting soil...?

I've seen those planters done up before and they are beautiful. I'd put a layer of crush rock in the bottom for drainage then the soil on top...hanging vines would be nice on the bottom layer then low set annuals in the top layers.

Is there certain flowers or colors you like?..that would depend on whether or not to move it for more sun or not.

I've seen them done up very pretty. I'd say leave it where it is and plant things that will grow in that specific area. I would say you'll need some trailing vines or flowers.

Ok, thanks. I didnt think of rock. I like any colors, but I'll have to find out what flowers or vines grow well in shady spots.

Thanks. Does Ivy do well in shade and shallow planting? Or what about flox? I saw some Flox at the store the other day, and read that it is good ground cover.
