A Gardeners Forum Forums Administration Site News Server Relocation Adventure

Well, as many of you know our good friend Bill has parted ways with The Garden Helper website and he's gifted AGF to myself to keep it "in the family" so to speak (as it doesn't really make much sense to keep renting out the old server as it's not really needed).

We experienced a smidgen of downtime last night (2/15) as I moved the domain to my account and moved the site to a new server; it'll take a while to fully propagate for all users all over the world, but if you're seeing this message then you're on the right site.

And yes, I renamed the "The Garden Helper" facebook page that was only really there for downtime notices to "A Gardeners Forum" last night while I was shuffling everything around...

Is there anything you guys would like to see added to the site/forum by chance?

Some of you may have noticed that a lot of the Avatars are currently down; I'm working on fixing this (it effects ~2k user accounts). The Avatars affected are located on thegardenhelper so they just ended up getting nuked by the new owners.

Ok, the avatars, for the most part, should be fixed... I need to work on signature buttons and such at some point today but at least the missing images should be dealt with now...

Yeah, haven't made a new page for it; I'll do a quick and dirty one now just to get it up.

Well, unfortunately, I had to upgrade my server to accommodate this site, so to offset costs I added an ad to the spot between the first and second posts which is generally the most popular spot for advertisements on a forum; if you have any ideas I'd be more than open to hearing suggestions...

well not to worry about the ads james---we had them before, but just on the sides--I should think we will adjust to the changes.

and yes you do have to pay the bills after all.

Thanks Junie; before the majority of the income through ad's for Bill came from TGH; this isn't the case here though, since TGH is under new ownership as well... I'm trying to do my best to not change much around here, but re-cooping new costs on a restricted income unfortunately has to be done and I thank you for your understanding :).

I have not seen any ads. Know the bills must be paid don't mind the ads as long as it helps this forum and no other.

To make Cindy's job easier I've automated the "top poster" images and moved it to below your user name; I'll need to make some coding to take and nuke the ones from the signature lines however...

Junie Girl's says she has 20,000 posts...but she has 30,000 posts.

Is there a 30k post image? What I have here only goes up to 20k...

Ahh, wasn't in the directory with the others that I was looking at; I found up to 50k and all updated... Let me know how it looks...

Are you going to allow us to use our own personal photos in our avators?

Well what do ya know--I didn't even catch the mistake---and here it is already fixed---YAY for me !!!!

I'm not entirely sure how to handle signatures; my script for some reason dies on updating them, so I can't automate the editing of all signature lines lol... Will need to revisit this in the future I suppose...

I need to change URLs from TGH on them to AGF and now that post images are handled via the member title system they can be removed from sig lines as well... Hmm...

I've been looking into a "Missing EMail" problem with GMail users; it'd seem that some forum emails are triggering their spam filters and email is being (incorrectly) marked as SPAM... I've gone through and filled out a support request with them and I hope to have it sorted shortly... Which hopefully doesn't mean a prolonged period of time...
