I normally start decorating the day after Thanksgiving but I'm alittle slow this year. So to get me motivated I thought I would start this thread. Lets see your christmas decorations, your favorites and the family heirlooms. The ones your not sure what to do with and the ones that have earned a "pride of place." I'm going to go move all of the plants off of the reference table right now so I can begin decorating. See it's working already!
Merry Christmas.

I can't wait. I had unexpected company today so I got interupted in the process, but I've got most of the silver and gold decorations on the tree. I've only got one more container of the small gold ornaments to put on. I'm staying in the silver and gold with the tree this year. I've never had one done that way and this year I had enough ornaments to pull it off. At least I think I do.

This year I'm separating out the 18 inch tree ornaments and putting them in a separate container. That way I'm not unpacking things I can't use every year.

I got extra AAA batteries so I'll be able to get some pictures too.

Finally!

Working without a pattern as usual I tried to crochet a christmas stocking. The motivation was a christmas stocking I saw years ago in walmart. It had a stuffed baby polar bear head attached in such a way it seemed to be poking out of the stocking. It was wearing a santa hat and it was adorable. Don't ask me why I didn't buy it, it has haunted me every since. So I thought I would try and make one but I'm just not good enough to pull it off. So now I have this stocking and a little doggy wearing a santa hat.

[Linked Image]
I decided to just use white, silver and gold on the tree this year. It needs one of those lights underneath it to make everything sparkle. But that's not going to happen this year.

Hear are the box of cards I have received that I hang around my entry way. Needless to say I haven't gotten them up there yet.

And here are some christmas dishes I have collected. I didn't plan to it just happened. Does anyone know what the rectangular one might be used for?

Those are pretty. Would the rectangle hold enough cranberry sauce or the like for a meal?

It does say that it is microwave, dishwasher and oven safe. It's alittle bit small for an entire can of cranberry sauce I think. But it would make a nice individual loaf of bread. That's a great idea. Thank you for telling me about it.

My Relief Society president and her husband came over yesterday and Helped me hang decorations off of my center beam in the living room. We used my super large stag ornament for the center and then my nativity ornaments and then some snowflake bulbs and ended the line with some ceramic pieces that I have bought at Macy's after christmas sales. I love those.

The camera is really acting up now so I don't have any pictures. Maybe santa will see his way clear of a new camera this year. Sooooooo not.

well, first I got sick & then my DH said "if he got a deer he would need some help with it (he is bent on doing it himself)"--read,--I get to do what he wants, when he wants & if he asks for an item I should have it at the ready because after all i knew he would ask for it, and all of this last minute, because he may NOT even get a deer.--AND if I dare be in the middle of something when he comes in with said deer, well, too bad for me, after all he told me it might happen...
...I AM NOT A HAPPY CAMPER.

he has ruined my weekend....but then he likes to do that. I guess it keeps him in control. why At this point I am considering not putting much up for Christmas, but then he will not care, life is & has been about him after all, he is still the little spoiled kid that was born 10 years after his brother, to by then well-off parents, when they thought they would not have any more children. Worst thing is he thinks he has out-grown being spoiled. uhuhh All this from a boy who could not do enough for me when we were dating.
have I said I hate my life ??---well, yep I do.

Something I should point out---I am a SLOW person..if it takes the normal person 1 hour to do something, I can promise you it will take me say 2 to 3 hours.---this is the main portion of my problem, I understand. As a result, if I don't get my Christmas up soon, there is no point--been there done that.... why badday
Having said that:
I have lots of shopping to do, that will have to be doled out to the 2 paydays left. I have baking & wrapping to do--then in my spare time (not really) I get to run my MIL all over creation several times a week, do for her as she needs (setting up pills & such) plus make sure she gets to go & do what stuff she needs/wants to do for Christmas---and this year esp., I will have to take her and just do her stuff several days---Now, about her I am not complaining really, just stating the facts. And when it comes to her, Rod expects me to do it all, & not bother him with the details--but if I mess up, he gets mad---like I said, spoiled.

Then I get to do my usual stuff----cooking, cleaning, making Rod's lunches, etc. he likes to add "his" things to be done, to me last minute too--his Mommy (or his dad, it does not really matter which) taught him well.
When I was a sweet young thing I did a lot of "MY" holiday stuff after 9 pm at night...but I am too old to make that work now---Since 2007 I have slowed down a lot.

Good News is I do almost feel Human again, after this last bout with the flu...

Merry Christmas everyone..... rolz

Gosh Carol. I don't know what to say.

We just got our Christmas tree up. I'll decorate it this afternoon, I hope, and post pictures later.

I am sorry, Carol. The spirit inside of you is more important than the decorations inside your home. You share your giving spirit with your MIL and Mother and even Rod all year long. I am glad you shook your flu.
I am not decorating for Christmas this year again. I am saving my energies and enthusiasm for the gifting. And much of my gifts are home made.

I told Rod that I was considering NOT decorating for Christmas this year---& he said...Well, if you would have said something I would not have put up the Nativity Scene outside----as I said, Life is always about him..... uhuhh

So far all I have out is the poinsiettas I got today- got three of them at Sams today... had a couple old popcorn tins with Christmas designs on them so added cardboard to bottom of them to add height so blooms would be above can edge and put on in my kitchen window and 2 in my living room beside the stairs... tomorrow we will set up village... thats an all day project... so next week will be tree or maybe tomorrow if we finsh the village early... boys like to help with the tree, would be nice to get it all done in one day but not holding my breath to get it done..

On Sat Carrie and I plan to go Christmas shopping.. so will get as much of that done as I can ... and have to remember to bring up wrapping paper so I can wrap as I go.. it's to much to do at last minute anymore.. did get all the calenders for each family... I didn't do it one yr and they all got mad at me... they expect a calender from mom now- it's tradition... found one today with buttterflies on it so that's mine! LOL!

Well off to get busy - boys are ready to go home and I have a froz lasagna in oven... that and salad will be dinner tonight... we pick up Joseph tonight when his shift is over so not quite done running around yet.

Oh my, I SOOO appreciate all of you that care so much!!! And Cindy, I would SOO take you up on that if I could. I DOO need some alone time for sure. If it were not the Christmas season and I could figure out a 2 or 3 lane way to get to your house, I would jsut get into my car & drive down & visit. Peace & quiet would be all the entertainment I would need.

The caring of you guys and Cindy, your offer has helped me tremendously thanks so much, all of you. It is so nice to know that I have a family here in all of you.
It is so nice not to be alone shewinks kissie
Again, Thanks.... luv

I second that.

I took my cards and spread them out on the facing table in the livingroom it's not much of a decoration but it doesn't clash with the other table either so it's ok for this year.

I also used cards around the candle in the window. I'd like to get the wreath that goes around the candle as some point, but not this year.

I so agree about the christmas wrapping. It is currently spread out all over the craftroom, but all of the presents are wrapped.

Carol...head to your eldest daughters for the weekend thumbup and enjoy the quiet there.

I have been slowly decorating but it is hard because of a little 2 yr old who needs to play with all the 'toys' that are out lol

All my pretty glass items shall remained packed away for another year.

That's the best way to do it when they are very small. stick to things that don't break and are to large to swallow.

I got this little tree last year at WalMart for dirt cheap. I just added a few lights and the star.

[Linked Image]

I added some greenery around the light and couldn't find ribbon I liked so I took a ruffled scarf and stuck it to the greenery.
