Yay, a new CH just in time for my nap. I have ended up having a busy morning. I ordered my food saver from Amazon. I have wanted one for a long time and now I will have it. Looking forward to playing with it.

Are the bags for that super expensive?

I've been in the chair most of the day...sick at my stomach.
Now I'm weather watching. nervous The Weather Channel has a graphic of "Likely" and "Possible" where the power will be out. I am in the "Possible" zone. I don't think we will get much snow, but wind Tuesday is supposed to be gusts up to 50mph. All it takes is one tree limb around here and the power is out. rolz

Yes, the bags are expensive. I also bought attachments to seal canning jars though. That is what I am most excited about. Sealing my dry goods into jars and they will last for years as opposed to a few months to a year. Those are reusable.

The canning jar thing sounds neat...especially if you live in the boonies like me and have mice.

YIKES! This is going to be a bad one...will effect so many people.
Hope everyone stays safe!

I love mine Tina, I seal all my flour, sugar and all that kind of stuff in Jars... I make my own spice mixes too without salt and seal those in jars too- just keep some in reg spice jars for everyday but keep the bulk sealed .. lasts forever...

I knew you did, Nana. That is part of what got me started thinking about it. Then I went researching and found the jar thing and really decided. I was just going to wait until next month to buy one. I got excited and couldn't wait. notme

Cindy, I've been watching this storm for days. Nearly glued to the weather channel on TV and other places online. And it got me riled about getting ready again for any disaster I may have to deal with (thinking earthquakes and such for me).
This is a mega storm because 3 fronts are converging to make it one. Plus coming in on a full moon for higher than usual tides, etc. It is huge.

Little hint Tina... if you seal powdery stuff in jars .. flour... cornstarch- use a coffee filter above it when you seal it with the jar sealer... cut it in down to fit... keeps you from sucking up the stuff into sealer... I usually use the lid as a template to size it ,, cut it a little bigger to fold up side... hope that makes sense...LOL!

It makes perfect sense, Nana. I was reading on a blog where everyone was giving a lot of advice similar. Aren't coffee filters a wonderful invention. I rarely use them for coffee but do use up a few of them for other things.

Coffee filters come in handy when you run out of toilet paper.

Also...toilet paper comes in handy when you run out of coffee filters.

Been there, done both.

Never even thought of that use. I haven't run out of TP for years though. Too many times in my past. Now if I get down to my last 24 pack I run screaming to the store. Well, not really screaming but terrified.
Good night all. I am heading off to my bed. I have watched about all I can of the storm and I cannot will it away. Keep safe all.

Good morning..

We are keeping an eye to the 'perfect storm' as well. We are supposed to get the worst of it on Halloween Day. Praying that you are all kept safe. Apparently we'll only know tomorrow how bad it will be for our area.

Pouring rain out there today.

Sunny, the weather channel dot com has pretty good updates all the way up to when Sandy curls in your direction.
I am watching live TV news out of NY and seeing the streets flooding.

I had to go to the store today...not even a can of tuna here (fed that to the cats last night)...so I went to my dad's to play Backgammon. He whooped me! lol Then he said I had to post it on Facebook to humiliate myself.

Good morning.

Watching the news and being discouraged, such damage.

Tina, they finally put up a link to our weather news...guess they were waiting for the storm to cross the border.

Hardly worth mentioning compared to Sandy, but yesterday we had wind gusts to 45 mph here and a few inches of rain. Today will be lots more rain and by tonight the flood warnings will be in place for the rivers in our area.
No damage, and no worries though...

Keep safe, Bill. I keep saying that but it is what I feel. Weather is weather and on this side of the country there are geological things going on, too. Did you feel any of the quakes?
I woke before my alarm again. I will be a zombie soon.

We didn't feel the quakes here. They are still getting some aftershocks up in B.C. ...
Strange how little (none) damage they got up there after a 7.7 and a 7.4 though!

I know. I have been watching those quakes along with the eastern storm. I did not feel those either, of course, but we had our own little shakeups here.

Very strange..I thought they'd see a tsunami after that, and they are still happening..they had a large one again this morning.

No matter how the weather is..stay safe everyone.

scientists who study these things say even though there were no collapsed buildings or boats washed inland, make no mistake, a magnitude 7.7 is a big earthquake, considered one of the most significant along the northwest coast in 60 years.

The quake was widely felt in British Columbia, and showed up on instruments in Washington.

Scientists also looked to see if the quake affected volcanos in Washington, and will remain on alert for at least several more weeks. So far, everything is quiet.

The problem, says Vidale, is that the West Coast, from Alaska to northern California, is under tremendous geologic pressure as it’s forced up against the basin that forms the Pacific Ocean.

Release the pressure in a major way along one fault, and it can then add to the pressure on another fault. As of early Monday afternoon, more than 130 aftershocks were recorded, including one more than 100 miles south of the quake’s epicenter, thought to be on the Cascadia Subduction zone.

The subduction zone threatens a much larger quake of approximately a magnitude 9 from the northern tip of Vancouver Island to Cape Mendicino California. The Haida Gwaii quake is not located along a subduction zone.

It was very nice to see names pop up in the sidebar.
I hope you remain safe, Bill. Quakes are my main thing I do prep towards. And I agree, quakes that appear to do no damage are not necessarily safe. There is more going on down there that we don't know than what we do know.
I was also thinking about this while watching Sandy approach. Most weather gives us warning that it is coming, or could happen, like tornadoes. Quakes come out of nowhere without warning. Long term prep is the only way to hope to help yourself.

Good morning and Happy Halloween.

We got heavy rain and wind throughout the night with lightning and thunder. My property has no damage as of yet. The storm has taken more of a West path than expected..sparing us a bit. More bad weather for today.

So very cute. My Christmas is just about done. I am getting my youngest daughter a new catalytic converter for her car for a gift. Everything else is small potatoes in comparison. A couple of iPads or other pad types for other kids. They love Teddy's. I am out of inspiration.

I wish I could be done. We have a family web site where family members are supposed to make posts of things, if only so we know where a persons "head" is at---but it will be about 6 weeks before anyone posts in there. rolz I so like to start early..

I do have some items bought--and my Mom's birthday gift is ordered & paid for. so that is a plus...

I did some bookwork late at night & now I am wide awake--Bad Carol
