Hey all, I'm new to houseplants. I have 2 different species of spider plant, one is vittatum (white down middle of leaf)the other is veriegatum *(stripe on borders). well, the latter is growing fine but the vittatum is not doing so good. i got them at the same time and care for them the same way. I don't get it. the veriegatum is growing like crazy, 10-12" leaves, even starting to flower but the other still only has 5-6 leaves about 4" long. any suggestions. I've tried different plant foods, repotting, nothing happens. THe leaves appear healthy, they just aren't growing like the other one. someone told me I should not keep the pots next to one another so I moved one about 5 feet away. still no results!!

Welcome, schugeorge. I do not know what the differences are in growth with spider plants. I grow them outdoors here year long. Some in pots, some in the ground as ground cover. I have noticed that my green ones are more vigorous than the variegated. But eventually the v ones make strides. By the time they catch up in size to the green it is time to re-pot the green. I just do not know why.
I hope your plant does well.

Thanks for the reply, I guess as long as it looks healthy I'm satisfied. It looks funny though because the other is so much bigger, like the runt and big brother...;)
