I've been transplanting in my greenhouse for 2 weeks now and yesterday I noticed that something has been bitting on my leaves. Some of the leaves have been eaten to the stems and some have small half moons bitten into them. My question is would birds do this? I have sparrows coming in right now. I tried to check for bugs or tiny insects but couldn't see any. It's weird and frustrating... Has anyone experienced this before. I'm also thinking of mice though I haven't seen any sign of them so far.

I'll be working in the greenhouse this afternoon, so I'll take some then. See you in a while.

Weezie here are some pictures. This is a petunia plant... These are my pepper plants. It kind of seems these are the only two plants that are being nipped at. They're not touching the marigolds or geraniums and quite a few others. Here is one more picture.

Something definately is taking pieces of those leaves.. *My first thought when you said it and discibed it, I was thinkin' of cutter bees* but the markings on the plants, I don't think is...
I am almost leaning towards some kind of bird.. Ripping pieces off to make nests with... *see the tears or rips in the leaves, that go past the actual rip or hole in them.. Which leads me to believe a bird *with no hands* tearing/pulling then ripping the leaf off...

Weezie you might be right, for I have quite a few sparrows getting into my greenhouse. We just redid our roof and my husband is not quite finished with it, so hopefully it will work. Those little beggers get in in the smallest of spaces. I love birds but these guys are making me upset already. Today I had to clean up their poop off some of the tiny seedlings.

PattyM I don't have a picture right now of my greenhouse, it's really old already, just a wood frame with fiberglass as cover for the outsides. We just redid the roof with some clear hard plastic special for this type of job, we're planning on doing the complete greenhouse someday as the old stuff is brittle and is cracking already. Obviously wasn't the right stuff from the start. But it is a greenhouse, and I love it.

I finally found the hole or spot where the sparrows get in, it was the oddest spot right under the door. Was working in the greenhouse today while it rained and I had chased them all out when in they came again and this time I saw where. I guess the wind and rain pushed them to get inside.
