Hello
My first ever Avocado pit using the water and tooth pick method.
I got the root out the bottom come through about 3 weeks after starting then thought it was time to plant but nothing since then, the pit was a little green looking but now its very green and the split at the top is just brown and does not appear to be doing anything.

Should I leave it and wait or is this one dead?
I've added a picture for you to see

Welcome, Jims. I would wait a while longer on this. And keep it evenly moist and away from direct sunlight. I would also tent it with a clear plastic bag to help it maintain the even moisture, greenhouse style. But not touching the plant/seed itself.

Keep hanging in there, it is looking good. the split that is starting down the center is where it will open up and the sprout will emerge. You are doing GREAT just hang in there a little longer!!!

Not that I could ever grow an avacado tree in WY, but would this produce a tree?

It does produce trees. Every time we had an avocado pit when my daughter was a toddler, I would give it to her to plant wherever she wanted. When they grew in the pathways and such, I would transplant them to other areas. She will be 21 next month. We have several trees and a couple produce small fruit. For a good crop of avocados,it really takes a well grafted tree. But they make good evergreen trees.

The best avocado I ever grew was from one of those really big bright green fruits. This was in an apt in NYC, in an east window, and after it got going I had to keep it pruned because it wanted to run into the ceiling and spread all over the bedroom. I've had other ones, but not as good as that. They do take awhile to get started, though.

Thanks for the encouragement guys, it's been awhile now but I'll keep watering it and waiting.
I've started a 2nd one now, again with the toothpick and glass technique see how this goes.
