Good morning..rained for the past week and showing rain for the next 8 days, a repeat of last Summer.

Cutting wet grass is no fun but it had to be done yesterday..

Vet is on his way down as I type...have no clue what is planned but I am surely not going to want to see the bill in the end. cry

Anyone hear from Cindy in the past couple of days?

Good morning. I hope all is well with Cindy. Her health is worrisome.
I also hope your mare and foal are OK, Sunny. With no huge bills.
I have been up over an hour. But I'm thinking of just going back to bed for a bit. Ted can miss a day of summer school.

Good morning--I too did not wish to get up---it is cooler today & so it is great sleeping weather. Every once in awhile going back to bed for a nap is a good thing, Tina--enjoy !!
Sunny I am sorry the vet has to come--but then I bet your mare is going to be happy that this is all finally over. poor thing.

about Cindy---didnt she post in gas prices just a day or 2 ago? but yes I too worry about her health.

I need to get going here soon to rehab.

Hi all,

Just checking in glad you checked in Cindy... we have been watching the news here rather obessivily- fires aren't close to us but we aren't all that far from the foothills either... maybe 5 miles but we have a freeway between us and the hills to so that would be a firebreak,,, still scary.. so many of the fires have been caused by lightning .. 10 burning right now... just ordered another evac in Boulder.. We could use some prayers for the t-storms to bring us some rain to help out the firefighters.... it's cloudy here but has only sprinkled so far.

We have put everything in one room we would have to take if we had too, just in case...

I didn't have boys yesterday - Carrie left them with Joseph cause they all have pink-eye... when one gets it they all do- even Joseph- he is very susceptible to it, used to get it at least once a yr when he was in grade school... he was off yesterday and finished up all the laundry from the lice clean up.. and the daily vacuuming .. so far so good! I will get them tomoorow , so hope the meds work and they aren't catching anymore...LOL!

Sunny hope all is well with mare and baby...

Joe just req I cook ribs for the 4th for us... so I know what I will be doing that day... they have outlawed all fireworks here , even some of the town displays have been canceled... sure hope people listen...
Well off to fix something for dinner for us tonit... havne't decided what yet- maybe a stirfry...
Nana

What a long day...waited forever for the vet. Paid a few hundred dollars for him to tell us that our mare has a Pseudo-pregnancy touched

It's rare but it happens...her hormones tell her she is pregnant with all the signs and symptoms but no baby formed. I'm still lost on it all...doing some internet searching on the condition.

So Sorry Sunflowers, what a bizarre event! and costly.

Good to hear from you Cindy,

Nana, I pray about the fires everyday. It is so scarry, and there are so many. You have really had the medical issues with the kids! Hopefully smooth sailing after this. How is the fence coming?

Still hot, hot hot here, but supposed to be only 90 tomorrow, nice change from 105.

That is very hot. It has still been mild and wonderful here. But my turn in the sweat box is coming. July, August and September are our worst months. And we are already so dry as to have warnings about fires as well. The few that have sprung up have been handled fairly quickly.
Back to my paper work.

Hate to hear it was a pseudo-pregnancy...dealt with that back when I was a vet-tech. We had a dog when I was a teenager that had pseudo-pregnancies...guess that was back in the old days when we didn't have spaying...we just had one "vet" (no license, I'm sure) in town and he was like 155 years old and he was also a part-time dentist (uhhh....no license...lol) but he would pull your tooth if you needed it. Maybe he was really just a barber or something...? touched

Spent yesterday at the doctor...the one where there are NO magazines in the waiting room and I had no book with me. boohoo I finished the book "Same Sun Here" by Silas House the last time I was there... idea need to get another book.
Tomorrow I will be in Lexington all day and not looking forward to it...2 appointments, at least they are in the same hospital.

It's so hot...we don't usually get up in the 100's this early...need some rain bad. If I felt a little better I would go outside and do my Cherokee rain dance (that would amuse the neighbors!)

Been seeing those fires on the news...makes chill bumps on me...I hate fires.

We have had small fires around. Many of those are started by equipment trying to get rid of drying weeds and other fire fodder. A not-so-nice paradox.
Our weather has been particularly cool for us with the highs in the mid to high 80's. Night time lows in the upper 50's. No rain and no wind to speak of.
A lot of our firefighters are in Co. and other places helping spell those fighters. We all share. They will come to us if we need in the fall when our worst season is.
I am hoping, as we are supposed to have an El Nino winter,it will rain early and well enough to stave off a lot of our fire danger.

well you would have to go some to be slower than I Cindy.... lol

What time are your appointments, Cindy ??

Speaking of dogs, my 14 yr old australian shepard must have hurt his wrist tonight---we tried to make him a ramp because of his arthritis, but we did not buy enough skid tape & he "skidded" down the ramp...now he can hardly walk.

I gave him some predisone that the vet gave me for him when he is hurting esp. bad, but I don't know if it will help----I hope he didn't break his wrist...Do they cast dogs bones???

going to bed soon---but for now I am embroidering on a blanket for my grandson. luv

Been up since 5 am--which would be ok if I had not have gone to bed at 2:30 am.

Puppy being injured woke me up I guess----

Rod had to take him out to potty this morning, but he came in by himself--if it were not for his leg he is doing fine---poor puppy.

Temps to be in the high 90's today but high will be around 106*F tomorrow.

Today (early) I am taking my 92 yr old MIL shopping----better today than tomorrow I guess.

Good morning...

The vet said that pseudo-pregnancies are rare in horses and 'seeing the colt kick' is normal also..he said their insides swell and rotate to make it look so. Oh well, it would have been an unplanned foal that would have needed another home by Winter and that would have broken my heart so it is all for the best. Our other horse is gelded so no worry there.

Made 7 bottles of strawberry jelly and 6 bottles of strawberry-rhubarb jam yesterday.

We are getting the heaviest rains, just like a hurricane yesterday..last night was just awful. I'm sure there was damage to some homes. And through all this the main liquor store in town burned down...the biggest, cheapest place to buy, I don't drink so I could care less but there will be a few people in tears this morning I'm sure..especially since you only had to be 18 to buy there because it sat on the Quebec border.

Watching the fires on the news and praying I could send some of our rain..stay safe. kissie

I feel sorry for the horse when she doesn't deliver. Her mental condition has to be pretty sad with all of this.
Good morning. Another Wednesday for me. I will get Ted to school and then come home to make some phone calls. Next month he has off of school and I will be able to set my own schedule mostly. I still like rising early most of the time. It is best for working when it is coolest.

Good morning! I slept so late, YEAH! It seems the weather is extreme in so many places. I wish you could send some rain our way too, Sunflowers, espically to Colorado. My dad and sister moved from Colorado Springs to Grand Junction this past spring. I am so relieved, he has empazima and he would not have been able to breath in Colorado Springs.

Carol, I was born and raised till I was 13 in Arlington Heights. Definately been out west a little ( ok a lot, lot, lot) longer than I was in IL. I still have a lot of cousins back there, but we are not close anymore, not like when we were kids.

So are they able to "fix" your horse, Sunflowers? Can they give her hormones to balance her out?

Just work today. It looks very hazy outside, guess it's to smoke from down south, cause they are not calling for rain.

Have a great Wednesday flwr

Bobbie, the vet gave her shots to go back in a normal cycle. She even has an udder and is leaking milk touched .... Tina, she sure misses all the babying she was getting. She is back to her normal routine, in a stall at night and no more extra treats.

It couldn't rain any harder if it tried..we had to go make a 'cut in' drain in the side of the road before my driveway starts, the rain was washing away the soil and eroding the edge of my pave.

That is so interesting. I have heard of people with the faux pregnancies, including men. So it stands to reason that animals can do it too. I am glad she had shots to help her become more comfortable.
Busy morning and tomorrow will be another busy day.

Our dog that had the faux pregnancies would go into it every time one of our cats had kittens. It would go so far as to steal the kittens from the mother cat and nurse them.

I haven't read back very far...been a long day and I can barely hold my eyes open, they are swelled almost shut. Very hard to drive back from Lexington like this today.

Wow, I've never heard of pseudo pregnancies. I can see how people may be able to have that happen with all of our psycho-somatic tendencies, I never thought of animals going through anything like that. Poor thing. Nana, hope you don't have to leave, it looks really scary over there. The kids are finally out of school and I can start burning fat, not fuel to get to work in the morning. My veggie garden is doing great. I've had a couple of spinach salads and I made a big salad for the family with the leaf lettuce. Finally got some netting for my peas, that stuff is not easy to deal with. It doesn't look great, but it'll work. My bird feeder has become so popular that it's empty every day when I get home from work.

I am so upset looking at the pictures of the fires.... tears

Record breaking temps in the majority of the US the rest of the week. Rachel is going to a Nascar race Saturday in 110 degree weather....of course she is thrilled about it because she is still young. I am not leaving the house....and praying that my air conditioner holds up.

Good morning again. I had a horrid night's sleep. I rarely have sleep problems. And my nap time is going to be messed up with an appointment.
Today I am filling cardboard tubes with candy and wrapping them in red, white and blue napkins for faux firecrackers. These will mostly be for Ted's class tomorrow. It is his last day of summer school. Technically when he returns for the next school year on Aug 1, he will be a college freshman. This amuses me a lot.

I am with you on the heat and the fire news coverage... scares me... we are running our cooler almost 24/7 right now.. had 6 days of over 100* heat , hope our cooler stays working too.Only supposed to hit 99 today..!

My grandson Matthew and his family were evac in the Springs... so far they are okay, don't know about their house... the powers at be are making sure they give people the correct info about the losses before they tell anyone which homes and there are hundreds, have been lost... prayers are being said and I am req more from my family here... it's so sad...

We will have to go buy a new battery for our Tahoe tonit.. it is dead... Joe took my car to work today so really hoping Carrie brings me boys if they are coming here today... Joseph may stay with them..I really don't want to drive his pickup over there... only drive it if I really have to...LOL!

Well need to go do bill paying and budget stretching... have a good day all!

Nana

I just keep on praying for rain in Co. Fires frighten me here too. I think that they do not have an accurate count on homes lost. At least that is what the news was saying. It is horrid not to know, though.

I found this web site while I was trying to find current fires in WY, and was I ever aghast, there are fires everywhere. We are so smoky here now that I knew we had to have a fire or two going on. All this smoke could not have come up from Colorado. We do have fires going on here also. But it is worse in Co, can't imagine what it would be like where you are, Nana. So sorry about your grandson.

Just worked today, BUT I did dig up my first potato!!! My potatoe plants have become really droopy and I was wondering if they were done, or at least almost done and sure enough pulled up a tater!!! Already had vegies cut for a stir fry, so guess I'll have it tomorrow. Off to Rapid tomorrow to take sis to the doc to get her staples out....but also she has to redo her mammogram, I'm thinking this girl has just had ENOUGH uhuhh

Still hot here too,
Sleep tight all snooz

That's a pretty interesting website! I saw on there the Rainbow People were gathering in Tennessee...they were here in London for a month or so and left to go to Tennessee a few weeks ago. I stayed with them back in '94 when they were here...had a very nice time and they were very friendly. Even got participate in a wedding there...it was beautiful.

Keep cool all of you. It is nice here still but my turn is coming. It was only 91 here today and supposed to be the same tomorrow. But drop to mid 80's again for a few days. Cool enough in the mornings to make me wear a sweat shirt.

Cindy---I hope it is not shades of things to come either.

Tina, enjoy the cooler temps for the ones of us that are suffering with the hot now---And then, please stay safe from the fires. teach
