I have been wearing a POW/MIA bracelet for over 40 years...that my dad sent me from Vietnam in 1970. The name inscribed on the bracelet is "Capt. Wallace L. Wiggins"...and under that the date he was reported missing in action.

I wrote the Department of Defense in April to try to find out if he made it home. I got my reply today. His plane was shot down and he was Missing In Action in 1968. His remains were recovered in 1978.

Here is the link to the actual "Circumstances of Loss" report of his plane being shot down.

I just took my bracelet off a few minutes ago and put it on a shelf... tears

This family has some closure. Many MIA families do not. Prayers continue for those.

Yes, it is a blessing that this family did get closure. It took 10 years...and it was pretty sad reading the letters that his father (a retired Air Force pilot himself) had written to the government, and then the replies back from the government to Mr. Wiggins. I had no idea those things were online until I got the letter from the Defense Department today, and they gave me some links to get more information.

Cindy, I thought this was such tragic news yesterday when I first read your post. (I couldn't eply because I couldn't get logged on) Closure or not, the loss is truly beyond comprehension. I am grateful you so faithfully wore your MIA bracelet. It seems to me that act depicts more compassion than mere words ever could. Thank you. You ae a good woman, Cindy.

We were given two hands to hold, two eyes to see, two ears to listen & two legs to walk. But why were we given only one heart?
The other heart was given to another for us to find.

I am going to try to get in touch with his family to give the bracelet to them. In the letter from the Dept. of Defense they gave me an address to send my letter to his family, along with a self-addressed envelope...and if they still have an address on file they will forward the letter to them so they could contact me if they wanted to.

I would really love to keep the bracelet forever, but if it was my dad or husband I would really appreciate being able to have the POW/MIA bracelet with his name on it.....so I will gladly give it to them if they can be reached. That's the least I can do. He gave his life for his country.
