I've got a Dwarf Ponciana seed that I'm thinking might make a good bonzai subject. Anyone know how to go about this? I'm completely clueless but willing. I think I have the perfect mccoy square pot for it.

Gee, I don't know...but that sure sounds like an interesting project! I've always thought about trying it...it really intrigues me.

How many seeds do you have? I read that if you start from seed you should do it in the fall....so I would have plenty of time to "learn up" on it...

I have 14 of them. You'll have to send me your address again. computer problems continue to plague me. How many of the seeds would you like? Fall sounds like the perfect time to start this project. I'll just have to remember to keep some of the potting soil back for this project.

Oh, just a couple. Thank you!
I did see a very cool picture on Google of a bonsai forest...you could do that with all those seeds!

No I've learned that just because some are good doesn't mean more are always better. I actually have more than I can handle now. When I lived on okinawa one of my neighbors had Bonzai's all over his back yard. It was very interesting.

I've seen a couple of pictures of those bonsai forests. They do look very interesting. But I'd definitely qualify as chicken.

I'm thinking that I may want to start with the jade plant that I already have. I've ignored it for a couple of years now and it needs help.

Should I mention what my kitchen looks like after seperating this rooted cutting and cleaning up the mother plant? Nah, I don't think so.

I never had much luck with jades even in a normal setting....you are brave! Looks like a good start!

I think I will start with a maple seed...or a redbud seed...or both!

i'm not sure it's braver or just that those that have gone before created such beautiful plants that after awhile my resistance was worn away. Plus the successes I've had since joining Garden Helper have boosted my confidence. I have a blooming orchid and roses that aren't dying in my yard. After that anything seems possible. Of course I understand that there are a number of failures along the way. That's why I'm starting with something very inexpensive and easy to replace. I'm not spending 100's or 1000's on specialized equipment or anything like that.

It has definitely become a passion. Now if I could just have a garden without bad bugs I'd be in heaven lol.

It's funny I started out thinking about doing a tropical seed and now I've got the jade plant started and I saw a mimosa tree bonsai blooming and thought what a perfect answer for that aggressive tree. I get to enjoy the blooms without worrying about my septic drainfield or foundation. The one in the house for sales yard is in bloom and will have plenty of seeds later so I'll snag some then. Feast or Famine with me isn't it? At least I know that type is almost impossible to kill no matter what you do to it.

I put the seeds in the mailbox today but the postal carrier may have beaten me to the mailbox today. So it may be a day later than expected. I love trading seeds with people I know I can trust. I get so tired of getting grass or weed seeds in an exchange. It makes me cranky and depressed.

I love suprises lol. FYI i love yellow, orange, and red. lol. Yesterday I got the 1600 lumen 23 watt CFL light bulb for the tropical bonsai. I know I won't need it until fall but it was there and I was there and it just jumped into the shopping basket.

Well it looks like all the jade are dead. I put them outside as suggested and I guess it just got to cold for them. This may take a lot of trial and error before I get it right.

No rush. Since we have to wait until the Fall to plant them. It should be fun to work on something that I can move around lol. Completely different from the garden.
