One of my cherry trees died in the late freeze this year. I broke off a branch and it was brown all the way through. But the root stock is incredibly health and is putting up a multitude of branches so much so that it looks like a bush. I don't have access to any cherry grafting stock and need to dig up the root and let it go. But it's hard to let go of anything that is trying so hard to survive. Someone please help me do the right thing.

Are you sure it was grown on root stock?

BTW: Great to see you back with us.

More than likely, you will not get really good cherries (or none at all) from the suckers growing from the rootball. But if you enjoy the shrub/tree that you have growing, then enjoy it for what it is.

it was bought commercially so I'm thinking it is probably grafted. I don't expect to get any cherries from it. And since it is one of the "trees" lining my drive it does need to be a tree. So this one has to go.

The tree roots have dug in very well. Digging it out may not be possible. Anyone have any ideas?

I got a redbud from the arbor society but it's so small I wonder why I am bothering with it at all. Yeah borers are just one of the problems. Trying to find the stuff to put on pruning cuts is hard around here. I wish I had better luck with cuttngs.

It will probably end up the biggest and bestest tree in your yard.
