yes, I certainly agree with Barb--that is so nice---
I cannot wait to see progress pictures either...

I think if I were you, this fall when you clean off your yard, I would put the fence in the barn to protect it from the weather---then jsut put it back out next year---

Looks great, Sunflowers!!! Can't wait to see what you do with it!!

Stephen's uncle owns a huge greenhouse down in Altoona (2 hours south of where we live), so my mother-in-law, the kids, and I piled into the van last night and drove down there. Today we all dug around in his compost pile and collected 6 flats and 2 trash bags full of spring bulbs that he threw away last week. After the bulb plants wilt, they just throw them all away. They don't mind us going down and digging them all up. If the weather is nice tomorrow, I'll be planting an incredible amount of bulbs into the front flower bed that I just re-shaped. It's a mystery as to what exactly all of the different bulbs are tho. It'll be a great big surprise next spring when they all start coming up! lol

I also got 5 hanging baskets for the porch. They are all different and sooooo pretty. I'll get pictures for you all to see tomorrow. They are 8" baskets (I believe) and he gave me the fabulous family price of $5/basket!!!! shock I'm happy to have some color in the front now!! ...now to get Stephen to put in 2 more hooks for me! LOL!!

Everyone has been so busy, quite a project, Jenn. Great deal on those hanging baskets! Your landscaping project is going to look wonderful! I LOVE the bed with the fence in the back, Sunflowers. What a cute idea.

The only thing I have done with my flower beds is clean them all up. Not quite ready to put my seedling flowers out yet. Sometimes I think I could do it early this year and then we have weather predictions like we have for tonight... snow and 33 degrees egad Guess it is still just a tad early for outside. But the greenhouse is doing great and all beds are ready to plant!

boy those baskets are pretty. I've got to pick up a few. You've got your work cut out for you with all those bulbs.

Today I put miracle grow and lime around the tomato plants.

Today I repotted some water lilies and fed them all with tomato spikes. Some have buds reaching for the water surface already. Then I dug up about 25 columbine seedlings and replanted them. Dug up and replanted a small varigated yucca, same for a fern, and weeded a bit. Last thing I did was feed my fish - fun!

You can't be *that* far from Altoona!! Take a drive! :)

Today Stephen and I picked up another truck load of horse poo. Then I shoveled the ash that came from about 1 1/2 tons of coal from our stove this winter (I shoveled the ash from the first ton and a half a couple weeks ago). I transplanted 5 (I think) bleeding hearts from the side bed that we were working on today. I will be surprised if they survive the transplant this year, but the roots are old roots, so I don't doubt that they'll come up next year. Then Stephen and I worked together on reshaping the side bed, laying the newspapers, and shoveling the just over a ton of horse poo onto the side bed. We also worked on placing the pre-formed pond that I found after the flood into the side bed.

We don't have the money to do both my cold frames AND the pump etc needed for the pond, so I have to choose one for this season and one for next season. I'm going to choose the cold frames (not that the functionality of the cold frame itself is really needed anymore this year) so that I can grow veggies that we eat. In the mean time, I'm doing research on keeping ponds without fountains or moving water free from algea and mosquito eggs and larvae by using fish and plants. We'll see what I found out.

Pictures of the new bed will come tomorrow. By the time we finally got it all done, it was past 9 tonight and was too dark for picture taking. :)

Can't wait for the pictures, jenn.

Today was a work at Mom's house.
My brother suggested that the whole family put in $20.00 each and then we buy my mom a few bushes & some flowers for her yard & then we all go and do her yard work as he Mother's day gift, since dad is no longer around to do it for her, . . Daddy will be gone 2 years this next November, and it was a good idea.

So my part was:
I cleaned out a large concrete basket of hers & planted some new petunias that were left over from other areas into it. then a bunch of us weeded the pea gravel in the landscaping under it....
I then cleaned out a 6 pointed star flower bed that my dad had made Momma & filled it with flowers. We divided her hosta, & added them, some petunas & some marigolds to it.. My DH & my SIL leveled her hugh bird bath that was in the middle of it. Also, several of the guys helped me to weed it and then 3 of them came & turned over all of the soil inside of the bed before I planted.

Finally my Niece, my SIL, my BIL & myself weeded the flower bed that is all along the garage. so I had a full day---What I did was just a small part of all the work that was done---

I told everyone that we should do this next year & that there would not be so much to be done each time if we did it every year---

My DH says when we get that age we are selling our house & renting a small place-- rolz

What a great Mother's day gift, Carol. I bet your mom was thrilled!

Barb, what a thoughtful gesture and I isn't it wonderful to have great neighbors!

I worked hard yesterday getting caught up with work, but did get outside and planted more radish, kale, lettuce and spinach seeds in the ground. We got the outside bed ready to be planted with cauliflower, broccoli and cabbage plants that I started from seed. We created a hoop over the bed with orange fencing so the deer and antelope can't get to the plants. Last year I didn't think about it, had potatoes in that bed last year and I guess the animals don't care for potatoes! Was going to plant corn and realized there would be no way to keep the critters away! Going to transplant some more tomatoes and cucumbers into the green house today and plant some green beans! Ate a few more radishes and snap peas last night with dinner. grin

Have a Wonderful Mothers Day
