Help! I purchased 2 tomato plants along with potting soil for vegetables and transplanted them. They have grown at least a foot in the past month one of them has fruted recently. The problem is the leaves are turning brown and dying from the bottom up. This began a few days after I brought them home The branches are nearly bare. Can anyone tell me why? What can I do?

How hot is it where you are? Tomatoes need a lot of water and leafs can start dying if it gets too hot and they aren't covered with garden cloth to protect them from the sun. It could be mites too. They eat leafs really fast and I had to spray a flower bush with soap and canola oil to save it.

It is pretty commercial. I rarely click on links because I'm afraid of them.

Could be alot of things, however i live in texas and it gets sweltering hot!The tomatoes i have growing are doing very well.A few possibilities are that the pots may be too small and or lack of nitrogen.Sunlight is important, but i have allso heard that moonlight is just as important to nightshades.Naturally plants never move from the very spot they are born and who really knows what effect putting them in pots,or moving them to different locations really has.I imagine it is a shock to thier systems to live such an unnatural life. Most plants i have grown in pots require alot of maintenance mostly becouse i do not use fertilizers, only add new dirt or composts. The soil should be spongy, moist, and dark.overwatering however can couse roots to rot and disease to take hold.
